I know we've been talking about Justin for literally years but I don't think it's gonna happen till he has another record.
I mean this would be like the 3rd year in a row he would be "planned" to play and.....seriously? Hype has almost entirely died down and the timing would make no sense. Although I am in for Momchella, I think it has to make sense with an album cycle.
At this point, I feel like Justin would play better outside of an album cycle and just presented as a legend/icon career spanning set, so next year could work for that.
Has there been any history of revealing who was in talks to headline, but didn't (as they did with Kanye/Justin), and actually booking them the next year?

Yeah I was going to say -- I'd almost definitely rather see JT do a one-off show than tour on some shitty new album. That's part of what made Beyonce's show so special. If he were to release a good album again that'd be great, but I'm not optimistic about that happening.
That said: I'd rather not have JT at all at this point. But I'm running low on likely first time headliners that I'd be interested in anyhow.

It would be interesting if Coachella went the Glastonbury route and tried to get "special" headlining sets not part of a larger tour. However, I know that's pretty difficult.

So everyone has to do what Beyonce did or its not good enough now?

Do we think Solange will get booked as a sub again after her cancellation this year?
Seems like a missed opportunity to me, she is also booked for CFG. Maybe that is for those who missed her at Coachella
Flume and VW have been "confirmed".
Lana makes some sense. Someone on Coachella is also saying Halsey is in, but no proof yet (she is big enough to sub right?). Lumineers dates also make sense.

I highly doubt Solange will return. I am notoriously anti-Knowles and get a lot of hate on the sub for it (not here to argue the merits of my standpoint), but I feel like she kinda burned GV. Sure that TMZ article came out that her entire band got sick at the same time, which seemed sooooo likely. Overall it feels like she just couldn't get her shit together in time.
Maybe this is naive, but let's say her pulling out was actually due to "production delays." Couldn't she just have thrown together a stripped down show without all the back-up dancers and production value? I'm sure that would be just as incredible, she has an amazing voice and 2 powerful records under her belt. I would have absolutely enjoyed seeing her and a band on stage playing songs, minus all the complicated nonsense.
As for Bey, people seem to forget that she was booked as part of the Lemonade album cycle, although I'd bet she'd play a "career-spanning" set just the same if she performed in 2017. The only reason she was "off cycle" was because of the baby delay.
My point is, even if we get a pop artist playing a set from their entire history, precedent is that GV will still book them around an album release, delays non-withstanding.

From the artists perspective, playing Coachella as a one off makes no sense. You gotta use all that publicity to sell some tickets to your tour or get some album streams.

As an artist I understand and respect not wanting to waiver on your artistic vision. Even if it means you have to cancel because you can’t get things perfect

Some call it artistic vision, some call it complicated nonsense. Tomato Tomato.

Didn't she give quotes about how she developed the idea for the Homecoming show while late in the pregnancy/shortly after giving birth? If she'd performed as expected in 2017 it would've been the Lemonade show and nothing nearly as spectacular.

I agree that Solange isn't likely to be booked for 2020, but this is a lot of motivated reasoning. It's clear you don't like Solange, and that's fine, but there is no reason to doubt that she cancelled because her band got sick and she couldn't pull off the performance she wanted.
I think her album landing with a thud has just as much to do with her not being rebooked. She was a bit of a reach as a sub from a popularity standpoint, and the album didn't get her there like they thought it would.

Thank you for giving us a mock with set times.
Ive been making a small 3 liner mock and have a decent amount of similar names. But I am struggling with headliners besides Rihanna.
I wonder if Tool is even possible anymore.
I think Kanye or maybe Frank will be mystery headliner at CFG
2 biggest things: Would J cole take anything besides headliner or even sub? Would Flume accept being #3 with how high he is placed at Lolla and Outside Lands

I would imagine J. Cole would have to sub honestly. He’s not big enough to headline this festival IMO, but I figured if you gave him a slightly extended set on the outdoor against an old act like Bruce it would feel like a headliner show since I imagine the crowd would be large. I wanted to make sure I had 3 women represented in my top 6 so I put Robyn in there.
I’m not sold on Flume subbing at this point unless he releases another hit album. These EPs don’t have anything on them which appeal to the masses. Flume getting that prime Sunday slot on the main would still be an upgrade from when he played in 16.

This guy told me Flume will drop a new album by Coachella and will be there (no specifics on where on lineup). But he was #2 at OSL and Lolla PRE this supposed album.
Who cares if its 3 women in top 3 or 2 or 5. Whatever makes sense is what matters. Robyn isn't going to be over Cole, thats disrespectful. More men are popular artists for the types of acts this festival books
