If Vampire Weekend is booked next year I think they'll be where they were in 2014. Sub the What, moved up to #4 instead of #5 though. What does everyone think did FOTB really move the needle for them or what?

I don’t think it moved the needle positively, if anything it was a step down from Modern Vampires. But, fests are so hungry for upper tier performers, Vampire Weekend will prosper simply by being present.

I don't know that it moved the needle for them much as far as consumer popularity goes, but FOTB has been high on a bunch of AotY(so far) lists and they've been getting lots of airplay. I'm feeling like there's been a lot of investment in them. I agree with you regarding their placement if they're booked for Roo.

I really like Vampire Weekend on record but their 2014 show was one of my most anticipated and it was so boring. They sounded great, but it just wasn't very fun and seemed kind of phoned in. Hope that they would be better now.

I enjoyed that show but they're way better now.
Agreed. 2014 set was a snoozefest.
The 2 sets I saw at Glasto (pop up set Saturday AM, main stage subheadline Sunday) were both a lot of fun. Their new guitarist was a really great addition!
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard late night Which would be amazing
Would definitely be in a tent, no?
Probably. But they're playing the ~5000 capacity theaters on this tour and I like the idea of Bonnaroo wanting to highlight them on the schedule. Having them on the Which during Post Malone this year would have been perfect, kind of like how Ben Harper played the Which during Kendrick in 2015.

Modern Vampires was my favorite album of 2013 and i agree that 2014 show at bonnaroo left something to be desired. but i understand their live show is pretty great now, they added a bunch of musicians and are "jammier" than they used to be. haven't seen a show personally, just what i've heard.

I thought the 2014 set was good, and I'm not sure what people were expecting from them. It's cool that they do that SBTRKT song now and get jammy and stuff, but the Roo show was pretty Vampire Weekend-y, imo. They went up and played Vampire Weekend songs. Idk.

You aren't wrong. I don't think it was really VW's fault. I just think the classic VW sound doesn't lend itself well to a main stage festival show in the TN heat. I remember thinking I probably would've been going nuts if it was at the Tabernacle or something.

Yeah. I was pretty into it, but I can see that. Pretty paint by numbers, but I also loved that album and was super excited for it, and I hadn't ever seen them before.
Gonna go ahead and post this, because there's no doubt this is more interesting and fun than anything at the Roo show, though it's kinda cheating because it's technically a cover, not a Vampire Weekend song:
For real though because in my head I'd hope that they'd let them play longer than the 1hr 15min they've been letting pre-headliners play if they closed down the stage with no one playing before or after like Lonely Island did this year. They could fill the tents/the other with rappers/edm/non guitar acts and there would be something for everyone. They played for 2hrs and 15min when I saw them, they can play long sets.
I'll agree that they sounded kind of boring in '14, although I was just listening from the Kanye pit line. Definitely better now that they've added more members to the band.
