Continue to diversify the lineup in terms of genre, gender, race, and age. 2019 was a great step in the right direction. Metal, jambands, electronic, hip-hop, r&b, funk, world music, country, there is no reason we can't do it all. My biggest critique is the electronic lineup, the Other stage acts for 2019 were all very samey. Let's break away from the bass music genre and add in some techno DJs, house DJs, and drum n bass DJs.
Honestly would not have guessed people here were for Billie playing.
I just feel like she would've filled a "Post Malone type super popular trending act" spot at the top of the lineup, and there's not many acts like that that I'd really enjoy but I feel like I would really enjoy her set

My thoughts exactly. Also Billie is really into The Office.
Billie is good but not as a headliner. I get that Posty was but I just can’t wrap my head around Billie being the first female headliner in Roo history.

I’ve seen Lana before and she was super out of it. I’m also not sure Lana is in the same realm as Post as Billie is.
yeah Lana is just not as popular to the masses as those two. Norman Fucking Rockwell is fantastic though so maybe she will get a bit of a bump if it does well at the Grammys. Can't see her headlining in 2020 regardless, maybe #4
"I think the plan is to do 30 or 40 gigs in North America in election year, and also a few gigs probably only in Mexico City. If we’re playing in the States, I really want to go to Mexico because audiences are stunning. I love the people. It’ll be Canada, the U.S.A., and maybe three gigs in Mexico City. And that’s all. I can’t go off around the world, and I don’t really want to either. And I’m not doing any outdoor shows; I’m just doing arenas, so there’s only one thing to produce. But it’ll be a new show. It will be no-holds-barred"
Actual question, would Roo book Phish two years in a row?
Maybe if it was 10 years ago.
But yeah I don't see any reason why they'd do that now.
It would be surprising, but shit the formula worked. And I don't really see how they'd recreate that demographic without Phish specifically being there.
Actual question, would Roo book Phish two years in a row?
you know i've been over here asking myself that question.
thinking about those festivals like EF that book bassnectar every year no matter what. they've just got a built in base of fans that was always go see bassnectar at EF.
so let's entertain a crazy world where bonnaroo just starts booking Phish every year.
Pros: You sell that last block of tickets roo has such a hard time selling to achieve sellout status. I don't know, maybe Phish last year made an additional 10-15k people buy tickets? It creates a tradition the bonnaroo fanbase can sink their teeth into. Like let's say Phish closes every Sunday, it provides an anchor to connect experiences year over year. Even if someone isn't a big Phish fan you can party in the back of the What field and look at the lights, maybe even start connecting with a song or two (or you can leave early). It makes booking easier for Bonnaroo, and I'd imagine Phish costs less then a big current name pop act or a big classic rock act. It's an easy check for Phish in an environment they are comfortable in now, but also exposes them to new faces every time they play bonnaroo. Trey gets to go see Cardi B or whoever play. Page can eat all the sandwiches he wants from crafty.
Cons: Takes up a headliner slot, which will piss off some Bonnaroo fans, who now only have two slots to see a BNA that will add value to the overall cost of the trip. There were a good deal of complaints about this before the festival this year, but after the festival I didn't see many people complaining about Phish taking up the real estate, probably because on Friday there was so much cool shit going on during Phish. If Phish plays a LN What slot in addition to closing Sunday, it takes up a potential What LN act (although historically there haven't been many).
EDIT: forgot a con for phish, it would probably make them start needing to route their tours in June. they've had a lot of summers where they don't start touring until July or later. so it gives them less flexibility. i suppose they could do a one-off but it would be more cost effective to route a tour around roo.
i doubt bonnaroo goes this route but it would be great for me.
