Why are xiaolongbao so good? I like beggars purses too. All that stuffed goodness. I think the best dumplings I’ve had were some soup dumplings that had the hot broth inside that you poke the hole in and catch in that deep spoon utensil. That was at Dian Xin in the French Quarter.

I had my first soup dumplings this past year. Whenever I saw them referenced, I thought they just meant dumplings you use in soup like Chinese wonton soup. I had no idea there was broth inside and it was a bit life-changing when I found out. I screwed up the first one by cutting it in half on my plate...
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yeah, those are pretty damn unique. First time I had them, I was with a someone who warned me the insides would be close to boiling. Had I been on my own, I'd probably just bitten in and gotten scalded. Kind of reminds me of eating pizza at a Pizzeria and being so hungry (by the time you got there much less the 30 minutes between walking in, smelling everyone else's pizza and watching them eat, and getting your pizza) that you risk that first bite only to have the cheese stick to the roof of your mouth and singe the fuck out of it. How many damn times when I was a teenager... And then the roof of your mouth takes about 2 days to heal back up after. Fuck I hate when that happens.
I haven't thought of sloppy joe's for a long time. But CNN's page had a link over to food network with 18 different variants. The main one has a pretty easy recipe and sort of how I do taco meat if going gringo (minus the canned tomatoes and ketchup and substituting jalapenos for bells). Some of the pictures bring back the comfort feeling with the frozen tater tots and shit. I wouldn't be mad if someone offered me a sloppy joe. But I do want some pickles on that for a bit of acid.
I love a good sloppy joe. I do the Better home and garden recipe, but I use ground pork instead of beef since I don't eat cow.
Yeah there was like 18 of them on there - garam masala and Korean inspired. I’m sure pork or plant meat or crumbles can work too if you get the searing right.
I am not sure I have ever had a sloppy Joe before. I was thinking about them recently as well though. A local bar had it on special. I didn't get it, but I have been thinking about making it one day.

You aren't missing out on anything. The best ones are just ok and the bad ones are pretty bad.

i haven't had a sloppy joe in a while but if i'm going to make some seasoned meat i'll just make taco meat. taco salad or tacos is a much more lively and bright meal.
used up a bunch of zuchinni and mint (peppermint and spearmint) from the garden the other day. sauteed the zukes with onion, garlic, and mushrooms. made a mint pesto with garlic, lemon, almonds, and olive oil. tossed some spaghetti with the veggies, pesto, and a cream sauce of greek yogurt, some milk, and feta. it was really tasty.
Had a grilled turkey, pepperjack and roasted red peppers with basil mayo on rye at a local hot dog/ice cream place. It was so good. I'm craving it now.
I made a lemon pesto (no herbs) the other day from Milk Street Tuesday Nights Mediterranean. It was good, but not amaaazing. But I would make it again, but do a little something extra in the dish I am using it in to round out the flavor.

I also made pesto yesterday, walnuts instead of pine nuts though, and pesto is great! Had it with chicken breast with cherry tomatoes, some heavy cream and garlic. As well as some spruced up rice and it was a hit. I somehow forgot to salt and pepper anything other than the pesto though which was very dumb and something I never forget to do. Still tasted pretty good despite that.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
i love that i come in to see people talking about absolutely scrumptious meals while i am stuck meal prepping and eating the same 2 meals all week because i don’t have time to cook every day
I planted a bunch more basil because I make gobs of pesto every year. I know bonzai does too. Like gallons, right?
Yup! Well my mom does/did and she enlisted me every year to help make it until she moved. But definitely made gallons every summer for YEARS! I miss having "fresh" pesto all year.

ordering an uber to take me to the thai place in a strip mall with a noisy deep freezer in the dining area, strange christian music playing a little too loudly on a broken speaker, and chairs with proper backs that go all the way up to your shoulder blades.
