doing a mississippi pot roast in the crock pot today. was not fully awake and was searing the roast in a pan before transferring to the crock pot. when i flipped it the grease splashed on my hand and burned me good. it'll be worth it though when i get home and a delicious dinner is ready.
on that note anyone have any good crock pot/slow cooker recipes?
did another pot roast in the crock pot this morning, and managed to NOT burn the shit out of my hand. in addition to being more careful, instead of oil i used butter, and i used less of it. i also turned the heat down a bit, more of a 7/10 instead of a 9/10. the sear looks perfect so we'll see how it turns out.
only other change is instead of pepperocini i used banana peppers. banana peppers are what i usually use, but the recipes always call for pepperocinis so i tried those last time. i think i prefer banana peppers.
It was bad enough they had to use unripened avocados. And no grill for the beef, you need grill texture, not pan. I swear I would make a killing if I had a food stall in London selling my asada tacos with my moms salsa.
When I worked for Where Magazine, we pitched (and were pitched) some crazy map ideas. Taco trail was not on that list. I would have been down for that.
There's probably a few worthwhile places, and a bunch of mediocrity.
Yeah, it's an odd list. There are solid places listed, but they also list a few On the Border locations. I have never had their tacos, so maybe they're amazing, but I just don't feel like a chain belongs on a list like this.

I feel bad for people where Olive Garden is considered good Italian food.
We're spoiled with riches in the Northeast, particularly around Providence
I agree. Plenty of good places in New Orleans, and some in Pensacola as well. I'm trying to think of the last time I ate at Olive Garden. It was probably around 1989 or 1990. I never thought it was bad or anything, it just never called back out to me.
I wonder what the menu looks like? Here's the one in Mobile near the airport. I'm sure the shit isn't as pleasant looking as the photos, but there are a few things I'd get even if I could probably make them better at home:

Wine list is shitty though. Muscato? What you got some blush zinfandel too? haha
I have only ever eaten at Olive Branch once and it was in Fort Sill when Kyle graduated basic training for the Army. My dad and I flew up to his graduation ceremony and we went there for dinner. There weren't many other choices. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't that great either. Our service was pretty terrible though.

I am not sure I have ever eaten at an Olive Garden. I definitely has some cosmos there when I was underage and working at the Macaroni Grill down the street in college. I have some Olive Garden gift cards that I got like 5 years ago in a raffle. I keep meaning to actually go and try, but I obviously haven't I also have recently learned that Capital Grill is the same restaurant group (Darden), so they are good there. I might just splurge on a good steak instead.

I love mounds/almond joy, gummies and air heads and you are missing Baby Ruth.
Your list is really wonky though.
I'm missing like 10,000 candies. I just posted what I could think of. The good list is a [tm] of good candy. I mostly avoided euro chocolates and fine quality US ones. I also skipped Jolly Ranchers and traditional hard candies. There are dozens of those and jelly ones (Mike and Ike's and shit). Someone else can post them. Pablo specifically changed the title to "Gimme Some Candy" so I was initiating that hook up. As for the list, it's Wonka'y

Gotcha.
Ferrero Rocher is my absolute favorite "holiday" candy.
Most chain restaurants are fine at best. Apoplebees, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, etc. I don't mind Chilis but I rarely eat there because other restaurants exist. I've had good meals at Outback in the past but it's probably been at least a decade and I don't really eat beef anymore.
But going to any of these restaurants in your hometown seems kind of sad.
I go to Olive Garden like once every two years, mainly cause I get stuck with gift cards. And then remember how fucking mediocre it is.
Applebee's too, except that's just trash.
Applebee's opening across the street from Steak & Ale killed the location in my hood. I have only eaten Applebee's once, in the early aughts, it was not good and they only had pepsi. Applebee's is still fucking there and Steak & Ale is a goddamn Taco Bell.

Steak 'N Ale was kind of a novelty place though attempting to be Ye Olde English. It was okay, and they'd always bring you that loaf of dark bread to start. Their pewter drink mugs were pretty good too. But looking back on it, it's kind of on par with a TGI Friday's or Applebee's level place. I've actually had decent meals at both Applebee's and TGIF's. Speaking of pewter drinkware, on your side of the river I did get to freakin' Ground Patti earlier this year with an old friend and co-worker who wanted to buy us all lunch. It's kind of the same as it ever was. I'll eat it, but it's nothing to write home about. ---------------------- I don't like Zot's. That will have to be high on a different list.

We actually eat at Chili’s relatively often these days because we like the southwest egg rolls, they have a nice patio, we’ve always had decent service there, there’s never a wait, and we don’t really have a ton of other options where we live, particularly in that price range.

I think they are pretty similar, but you can get TGIF southwest eggrolls in the freezer isle at your local grocery store. They are pretty fucking tasty in the airfryer.

That bread was originally called Squaw bread and then changed to Five Oat Honey Wheat bread, I think. I have a special place in my heart for Steak & Ale. I miss the salad bar, the lobster bisque and their prime rib (rare). Of course I don't beef anymore anyway.

we eat ate Olive Garden a couple times a year, almost purely nostalgia, growing up my wife always went there for her birthday. it's not great but it's not terrible.
several months ago we got an Outback gift card and went there, it was surprisingly good, we've been back a couple times since.
i haven't been to an applebees, ruby tuesday, chilis, or TGIF in a very long time. we used to go to ruby tuesday all the time when they had the dank salad bar.
great opportunity to plug my niece's instagram where they review mid chain restaurants. she is hilarious:
People LOVE the wheat bread at Cheesecake Factory. People legit call it "chocolate bread." To be fair, when it's super hot and fresh, it is pretty sweet. I preferred the sourdough though
