Can’t wait to hear how they were! They look amazing! We are having black bean burgers tonight, but definitely with store bought buns.

Where do you live, and can you be my personal chef?
I love tomatoes on sandwiches. One of my favorite comfort foods that I made is literally bread, mayo, tomato, cheese and pepper toasted all together open faced style. So fucking good. I love a good meatball sub also.
My wife is from Birmingham, AL and this is the first meal she ever made me. I fell in love with her (and that sandwich) right there and then.

Must be a southern thing. I love that's the first thing she made for you.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

toasted them up on the blackstone with veggie burgers and they're so good. i used this recipe, and they weren't too much effort for great payoff. www.joshuaweissman.com/post/burger-buns
I've been enjoying the Borderline Salty podcast that Rick and Carla from BA have launched. Basically it's cooking advice, recommendations, and stories of failures. About a half an hour a week wherever you get your podcasts.
Caveat Emptor: if you listen with your kids there is some cursing.

i haven't listened to the podcast yet, but rick is my absolute favorite to watch on youtube. got his new cookbook last week, excited to get into that.

wanted pizza but we're still stuck inside so we couldn't use the ooni like we usually do. made the king arthur's foolproof pan pizza in the cast iron and it turned out delicious, better than any oven pizza recipe i've tried in the past. my lil son sat like a good boy hoping a piece would fall on the floor for him.

This video is so great. Kenji is one of the most well respected food scientists out there, and straps a GoPro to his head while stoned as hell to make a cheeseburger at three in the morning, without saying a single word. The little chuckle when he takes a bite is just beautiful

We're leaving tomorrow for a few days in New Braunfels. It's either leave at midnight and drive overnight if Person x can make it. If not, we leave in the early afternoon in a way to not catch crazy Baton Rouge or Houston traffic. If it's the second, I'm going to try to hit up one of the El Tiempos close to the I-10 on the way through Houston. I had that when we came to town for Day 4 Night 2017, and I thought it was pretty tasty. I would have liked to try Peli Peli again, but it appears they closed all their locations which kind of sucks since it had some unique South African flavors (Portuguese based). We'll hit up random shit in the southern part of Hill Country, so I'll be looking to grab some Tex Mex and BBQ out that way (hopefully Burn Bean Co. in Seguin again).

There's nothing inherently wrong with El Tiempo (aside from probably being a little overpriced), but it's funny that with all the game you talk about authentic Mexican food you're going to a chain when you pass through Houston.

My boy Brad who lived in Houston for a couple years recommended I try it when I was over there 12/17. I got Uber Eats and the quality of ingredients and all flavors was good. So that’s what I knew there but had to look up the actual name in the D4N thread to get the name again. After I got it I went online to look at the menu and saw they had all those locations but assumed it was all local (I’m not against local chains that are good). I figured it would be easy enough to swing through on the way to NB since we’d be possibly be running through around dinner time. I did once eat at some super weird outside place off Uvalde in East Houston one Sunday afternoon. I don’t know the name of that place, but it was pretty good besides the local hustlers trying to sell knock off cologne and shit.
I’m not from Houston. If I was going to be spending time there, I’d probably ask for y’all’s recommendation for something ultra authentic from any of their regional cuisines and most likely invite you to come eat. But I figured I’d be 5 1/2 hours on the road at that point and shorts and a T-shirt. By all means if there is somewhere easy near I-10 you think is better and more worth stopping at, that’s more the type of callout I’d appreciate.

El Tiempo is good. Nothing wrong with it except the 20 dollar queso.
I recommend El Rey if you're in a time crunch at all. It's Cuban-Mexican drive-thru and it slaps. Cuban taco, El Rey taco (grilled fish) are recs. There's one just a bit south on Shepherd at Washington Ave. Go down Durham at the Shepherd/Durham exit off 10, past Washington, then go back up Shepherd and it'll be on the right. You can also go inside. There's also one a bit further west near 99 in Katy where you'll probably having to deal with less of a crowd/traffic. Also right off 10.
