my buddy is doing a pork butt and brining it over tonight. i don't have time to cook sides but i'm going to pick some up from a local bbq place. which made me want to ask, what are y'alls favorite bbq sides? potato salad, beans, cole slaw, etc.?

Going to Meat Boss? Baked beans x2. And if Bay BBQ is still open (I think they are just open for lunch) then their erotic ribs for another side.

i've actually never been to meat boss! i guess i could make the drive, it's not too far from me, and they are open until 6pm. i was under the impression they closed earlier than that.
but i was going to just go to moe's on airport since it's right by publix.
We don't have a ton of BBQ options here. The best option is Dinosaur BBQ, which has a few locations in NY. I love their beans. Their mac & cheese and their chili is good, too. Also, cornbread.
I made their creole deviled eggs to snack on today.
I made the same sandwich like 8 times in a row since I went to the grocery store on Saturday. Sourdough, smoked provolone, deli roast beef, horseradish sauce. Just used the last of my roast beef and am definitely considering going to the store tomorrow for more.
Deli roast beef? That’s bottom of the barrel unless your store does house made roasts or something. Roasts are too easy to waste your money on deli meats. That’s like enjoying Arby’s. If you like meat sliced thin, slice it thin.

I mean, if I want roast beef on a sammich, what would you suggest I do instead? I usually just buy the $4 pound bag thing of "black forest ham", I'm not exactly particular about my cold cuts.

Roast a roast? It’s really easy. I’m assuming if you are spending 3 hours making a spaghetti sauce, you know how to cook. Roasts are generally less than 20.00 for several pounds assuming you aren’t doing tenderloin or ribeye. And deli meat tastes like shit compared to what even a first time roast would taste like.
If you don’t have a rotisserie, just sear it off and roast it in the oven. We generally slit some spots and insert slivers of garlic toes and then crust the outside with salt, pepper, herbs de Provence and shit. Piece of cake. Plus instead of canned “brown gravy” you can make something 100x better with no effort. Let me know if you never did it and I’ll throw up a primer that’s like a 1 on the 5 scale of easy.

oh I would never use canned gravy, that'd be tragic. Maybe I'll look into roasts next time I go shopping
My work is having our annual company party on Friday. Because we aren’t doing it in person this year, they’ve hired a chef to give us a cooking lesson, deliver food and beverages, etc. I normally don’t like cooking but this should be interesting.

Yeah, they don’t fuck around with parties. Last year we had a “Vegas night” where we had food catered and they hired card dealers and we basically gambled with fake money which was used to buy tickets to put in for prize drawing.. I won a booze basket while others won sports tickets, plane tickets, all sorts of crazy shit.

bbq sides update: i ended up just picking up potato salad, cole slaw, and baked beans at publix when i went to get buns. the cole slaw was N A S T Y. i don't know why people think cole slaw should be sickeningly sweet like it's fucking skittles or something. potato salad was OK, bush's baked beans were OK.
pro tip on the buns, melt some butter in a skillet and lightly toast the buns in the pan.
the butt my friend brought was awesome. very lucky to have a friend who can cook like this.
