Probably chicken wings and french fries for me. Assuming I can switch up the wing sauces. But man, there's a lot of pork products I'd miss - bacon, roast pork, pulled pork, ribs...
You would make a terrible Muslim.
Things I learned from my Muslim brother: gelatin is made from pork products.

Gelatin is boiled sinew and connective tissue and shit. I’ve never looked deep into it beyond knowing that as it creeped me out.
Pablo, was it nice n plenty and good and fruity? The good and fruites are okay, but if I’m at a move once every 8 or 9 years, I’m probably getting Sno-caps

Good n Plenty are like pink and white Hot Tamales. I think I've probably had them one time. I guess they're licorice-flavored. Good n Fruity used to be a thing, but aren't around anymore. They might have rebranded them as some other flavor of Mike & Ike. Zourz are also related. They're basically sour Mike and Ikes. I think they're still around.
Sno Caps are more chocolate-y with sprinkles on them, I think? Kinda reminds me of those blackberry and raspberry gummies that they sell at like Cracker Barrel that have the sprinkle coating. Those also remind me of Big Chewy Nerds, which are cool.
I don’t personally like Swiss or its cousin Gruyere, but that’s an aside. The idea of cold cuts to me is just nasty. I don’t have a problem with ham per se, but not cold cut ham. Ham can be super elite in Spain, Italy and Portugal. Germany too. I even like honey baked. But I’ll be a mfer if I’m going to the store and buying cold cuts. I guess if you get it sliced off an actual ham say like Sara Lee smoked or something, it’s better than a package of Oscar Meyer. But fuck deli “roast beef” and particularly fuck some nasty McRib-ass processed smeat purée of shit like bologna, liver cheese or luncheon meat. That’s like straight up Vienna sausage puréed and molded.

Yeah dark or semi sweet. Speaking of movie candy, I remember Mexican Hats and Boston Baked Beans but I don’t know if they still make those either.

I think they still have Good and Plenty, sometimes see it at Dollar Tree

They still have Good n Plenty, for sure. But it looks like Good n Fruity was discontinued a couple years ago, among other times since its introduction.

From pig. Muslims don't eat gelatin.
I mean I don’t generally eat it either. Only thing in aspic I like is Lark’s Tongue (boom tiss). What about jello? Is that synthesized or also from animal tissue? FWIW Wiki shows 44% of gelatin is pig skin, 28% is bovine hide, 27% is unspecified bones and 1% is other. So I’m guessing they do get some of that shit from boiling up cows too.

No jello. I just know he won't eat any gummy type of candy either because they're made from gelatin also.
He actually searches for vegan gelatin. Which is apparently not common.

A lot of gummy candies are vegan though! Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish, Jujubes, Dots, both Red Vines and Twizzlers, and Air Heads are vegan. Gummi bears often aren't, but there are definitely vegan versions available. Curiously, red and pink Nerds are not vegetarian, because they are colored with carmine, which is made from crushed insects. Grape nerds are, though.
Hot Tamales and Mike and Ikes are vegetarian, but not vegan. They contain no powdered insects like the red Nerds, but they do contain shellac, which is a product secreted by the lac bug.

The discussion started because he was asking about edibles. Apparently, edible gummies from non-dispensers are not vegan.

Oh ok. Interesting. Seems like a niche that needs to be filled, given the overlap that I imagine exists between the cannabis *patients* and vegans/vegetarians.

gelatin isn’t exclusively pork. It’s in all animal bone and connective tissue. The key to knowing how good of a stock you made is whether it turns into jello when cooled. Tells you that you simmered every last bit of goodness out.
Gummy candies that are vegan probably use agar agar, xantham gum, or guar gum. Maybe a combo of all of them? They’re all plant derived thickeners and emulsifiers.

So Vieux pointed out that her initial comment about "gummies" being made solely with gelatin was about weed gummies/edibles specifically, and that vegan alternatives were harder to come by.
This sort of strikes me as odd on a cultural level. Seems like there's a good bit of overlap between cannabis use and veganism/vegetarianism, though I might be exaggerating that stereotype/prejudice in my mind. Maybe the vegan thickeners don't provide as good of a solvent/base for the active ingredients in the gummies? I have no concept of what the manufacturing process is. Definitely something I'm curious to look into and learn about more, but it will be a few hours before I have the free time to engage in the armchair chemistry.
You ready to put some meat in your mouth or are you saying fuck it or semi fuck it? Some people have reported minor stomach issues when returning to meat after several weeks. That may be anecdotal or representative.
Since I don't eat beef, if I do it will fuck me up. My niece is pescatarian. We ordered sushi one time and must have gotten something with cream cheese. It fucked her up so bad. Her body can't process it, but she's been vegetarian for over 5 years now.

I've been cheating plenty on the vegetarian thing, like probably a solid five or six cheat meals this month, and like half of those had leftovers that I wasn't going to just throw out. But that's sorta been the idea. Steer into the vegetarian thing, do it substantially more often, be better at cooking that stuff and knowing what's available, while also not putting meat on a pedestal where if I eat it I've *relapsed* and I give up. We got fajitas Sunday and we're getting something tomorrow for my mom's birthday which will probably be like a pork chop. But maybe I don't eat meat. Maybe.
Eventually, I'd like to eat meat less, like maybe even once a month, but for now I'm really trying to ease into it. Not being strict all month, but I intend to continue into next month. My psychology is just so far in the direction that I'd be tempted by it if I was supposed to never, ever do it, or like I said, eventually maybe cave and then say "fuck it I guess I eat meat again because I'm a failure."

Oh and the Taco Bell by me doesn't have potatoes back. I asked. Hope they do soon. Or like, keep the nacho fries and put them in burritos. That's always fun.

The only cheat I've had is french onion soup. twice. I don't really count that. I haven't bitten into a piece of meat since 2020. It's been good for me to see what I can naturally do vegetarian at home so that our rotation has lots of options.
Doing portabello mushroom cap cheesesteaks tonight, so that should be added to the rotation permanently I think. I'm going to go Meatless Mondays and less meat at home once the month ends.
