I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but Wand is opening up for Stereolab on the west coast around Desert Daze weekend. So they could easily be coming back, especially since their main set was one of the canceled ones due to the lightning storm last year and they released their new album last month.
Also Black Mountain may be in play this year given their availability and new album which just came out today.
I'm still keeping my eye on this thing for shits & giggles even though I'm not able to make it this time around. Also glad to see that LiveNation's acquisition of Spaceland/Echo does not appear it'll impact Daze at all (*fingers crossed*).
The Flaming Lips are def one of the headliners. And if I were to guess I’d say they are the number 2 like MBV. I don’t see FlyLo at 3 but what do I know. Really excited to see all this shake out.
Crumb is supposed to be good right? Idk that I've listened but I've seen their names pop up here and there.
Popping in to say I saw them earlier this month and would definitely see them again if I could. I wouldn't say it's a "can't miss" but you wouldn't be disappointed if you saw them.
Thanks for sharing this article, giving us some more info on this new partnership with Red Light and what went down with Spaceland...Plus any insight from Phil is always welcomed.
I can't think of a band that successful that's more esoteric. At least not in the past like twenty years.
I'll listen to it when I get home. I can only go by what my recollection of them was, which was that they were one of the better bands that got played on butt rock radio in NYC back in the day

Also, weren't they a stadium band?
They weren't that level, nah. Not even an arena act, iirc. The one time I saw them they were opening for System of a Down at an amphitheater supporting their second album, Frances the Mute. That was probably about the height of their popularity. The Widow was on that and it was probably their most accessible and successful song on the radio.
As an example of their proginess, they played Frances in order and only got through maybe three songs because they jammed them out to be like 45 minutes long or an hour or whatever it was. Two bass clarinet solos, which I was into because I played it. The SOAD fans in general were not feeling it lol.
Also, my friend bought a ticket to the Arkansas show (show was in Texas) cuz he's a dumbass and couldn't get in so he decided to jump the fence and he got caught and thrown out.
But yeah, De-Loused rules. Pretty much all the songs are great, but my favorite is probably Drunkship of Lanterns.

I wouldn't mind finding a new old band with a bunch of albums already. I think I only had one of thiers
Crazy. I feel like they're doing it this way because they know the lineup is insane and dont want anyone overlooked.
In other news, I heard from someone that Arial pink has a major problem with this festival, so u wouldn't expect to see him any time soon
he did the fest and the caravan last year right? he seems like he'd be generally hard to work with from the interviews I've seen of him, so I'd be interested to hear about what went down.

Yeah, and from what I understand that's where the problem came in. I know that in Denver 3 of the five bands dropped out due to low ticket sales (including juujuu), and that basically happened all over, so I think it was just Arial pink and diiv playing shows that were supposed to be much bigger. I'm actually surprised diiv is playing now because of that.
Because of the way they stagger the main two stages, it actually ends up being way less bad than you'd think. The third stage usually does have one or two brutal conflicts per day though, usually around subheadliner time (see: Malcolm Mooney against Wooden Shjips and Slowdive last year)
