Because of the way they stagger the main two stages, it actually ends up being way less bad than you'd think. The third stage usually does have one or two brutal conflicts per day though, usually around subheadliner time (see: Malcolm Mooney against Wooden Shjips and Slowdive last year)
Yeah I did quite a bit of wandering/half sets last year
he did the fest and the caravan last year right? he seems like he'd be generally hard to work with from the interviews I've seen of him, so I'd be interested to hear about what went down.
Yeah, and from what I understand that's where the problem came in. I know that in Denver 3 of the five bands dropped out due to low ticket sales (including juujuu), and that basically happened all over, so I think it was just Arial pink and diiv playing shows that were supposed to be much bigger. I'm actually surprised diiv is playing now because of that.
Same thing happened in New Mexico and apparently the show was a ghost town.

I got a refund on my tickets.. 50 bucks was way too anyway anyway high for that show after the drop outs. And Arial pink was my least favorite of them

Then thing I don't understand about the single artist release thing they're doing, is that there's artists who've announced tours that seem like dead giveaways that they're playing the festival (Ride, Weyes Blood, Tinariwen, Morcheeba, etc). Why would you not release those names as soon as possible before their fans just decide to see them in San Diego/LA/OC instead of Desert Daze? IT MAKES NO SENSE.
