Hey guys! Normally a lurker, but haven't seen anyone discussing Pharrell's new festival, Something in the Water. It takes place on April 26-28, 2019 in Virginia Beach, VA. Being labeled a "transitional year" by local media, the fest will be taking place at the Convention Center and 5th Street Beach Stage (Google the Patriotic Fest if you wanna see stage setup).
Interestingly, the festival is 1.5 months away and the lineup just dropped with no previous advertising other than local news of its approval. No one was expecting it to be this unique/stacked of a lineup for it's inaugural year. Between this and the proposed surf park, Pharrell is heavily investing in his home town. As a local I really am hoping to see this fest succeed - so if anyone has any questions or needs recommendations on where to stay and what to do - feel free to message me!
Day by day breakdown is on the website. This is an odd festival, 1 stage on the beach (no exact location announced) so I’m wondering how long anyone is going to get to play.

Thanks! The Saturday could be worth driving down for. Also, per the Getting Here section, it mentions the exact location of the beach stage as well as a Convention Center as a place of interest.

From what I understand it will be taking place at both the Convention Center and the Beach stage at 5th street. If you google the Patriotic Festival - I imagine it'll have the same stage setup.
A local news outlet even discussed its potential to be SXSW style, where it will be at venues all along the oceanfront. This has been labeled a "transitional" year so who knows what direction they will take it. They have confirmed that there will be collab cultural/art events all around the Oceanfront.
The VIP tickets talk about having a special designated area, so I'm hoping that cretins with regular tickets would actually be able to still be up close.

Teddy Riley has replaced Missy Elliott, she is now only one of the "friends" coming out with Pharrell and Friends (along with Usher, Diddy, Gwen Stefani, and Snoop Dogg
Jaden Smith was replaced by Chris Brown - most likely because Brown is from Tappahannock, Virginia.
Airbnb's are crazy expensive. There is a video of a guy charging $10000 a night for an Airbnb called The Alamo located 15 minutes from the venue:
I'm really curious what the schedule will look like. How do you fit so many bands on one stage? I'm hoping we don't get something like 20-minute sets for acts like Rosalia and Mac DeMarco.

Is there only supposed to be the one stage?
I was over at the beach the other day, and I saw them setting up a stage. Not sure how the festival is going to fit in the space. There's a twenty-ish foot wide sidewalk and then a drop down to the beach, and on the other side there are basically just hotels every block, so a lot of gaps to block off.
Gonna go later today and see how its setting up a little more.
The lineup is good but unless we can get a ticket dirt cheap on Sunday or something I don't think we'll have the time, money or will to go.
