Hey all, might not be around as much for this as I have a family emergency right now. Will keep you all posted and if you see the horn around this weekend, say hi.
This was my 8th year and sound was butt ass garbage all day. You had to be well in front of the sound board to have a chance to hear anything
violent femmes was essentially ruined because of shit sound. still loved jawbreaker but the bass was way up the whole time and i wouldn’t have known what he was singing or playing on guitar if i wasn’t familiar with the music.
Sound for early radicals indeed sucked ass. Close enough for the rest that it wasn't an issue. Flips dropped It's Summer Time for a Daniel Johnston cover (relevant) and blink was worth it just for Travis. AF would've been higher if they brought out Tim Armstrong for Brandenburg Gate. I mean, Rancid closed that stage!! It wasn't too much to ask for!
Bloc Party was dope, but I lost my camera, sunglasses, Camelback, and flag in the pit. Gonna check the lost and found first thing. However, that Against Me! double album play aftershow was the highlight of the night/morning for me

Glad the festival bounced back from Friday's sound issues. Saturday and Sunday were phenomenal. Bloc Party, The Starting Line, and the conga line and the wall of death during The Village People were the highlights of my weekend. And Hot Chip, but that doesn't really count.
Thanks times a million to my love shuck for his hospitality and for sharing his home with four white middle-aged women for the weekend.
It was lovely to meet garageland in person and I very much appreciate your generosity, even though I cannot speak today.

Oh boy. The adventures I had this weekend. I'm alive and somewhere outside of Atlanta waiting to go home. I sobered up yesterday to make today not so hard. I was wrong.
I'm usually cracking jokes about my age. It was good to see Kathleen how old she was. It's inspiring to old fuckers like me. Seriously great set. Had it not been for The Ergs! and a massively under attended show, it may have been my favorite.
Honest to god, I don't remember Jawbreaker except a dude legitimately handed me a hankie to dry my eyes. Shout out to Anthony for that.
Good to see you that I saw and loved meeting all you new people. I can't say I'm in every year but this will forever be on my radar.
The past week or so has been incredibly hard for me so it was really nice to spend time with people I care about, and I want to thank you all for that more than anything. I also want to thank Village People for the Wall of Death and I think that about covers it.
These last 5 Riot Fests have been consistently excellent and IDK why I don't just buy the Thanksgiving presale every year at this point. And I'm worried that its notoriety is spreading a little too much because every day seemed PACKED to me! Anyone have any attendance numbers or figures compared to previous years? Other than that, the only other hangups I had was the sound on Friday and the food/water lines being a little crazy. They should put the food trucks back on the carnival side to split it up a bit. I had no run-ins with the bees/wasps luckily. Music wise, I didn't see a bad set! Attended my first aftershow and had my first GWAR pit experience, and though I'm looking forward to the next time I can grab balcony rail at the metro (fantastic view), I think I've hit my fake blood quota for the next several decades haha! As far as Douglas Park sets, here are were my top 10:
10. Cock Sparrer - amazing that all of them are still together and sound great! I have a soft spot for old dudes who still bring it! 9. Bikini Kill - the world need Bikini Kill now more than ever. And quack anyone who says they didn't deserve that spot! Super influential and ahead of their time! The guitar mixing was a bit off, but everything else really came together 8. Patti Smith - I really didn't know much by her going into her set, but she sold me by the end! Again, inspiring to see someone rocking in their 70s! 7. Against Me! - 4 albums in a 16 hour period! Though I liked the Metro show a little more, LJG still killed it playing through their 2 most influential albums. My next AM! show will be my 10th! 6. Violent Femmes - had all the toys. That sax was NUTS! 5. The Hu - these guys are going to be at every festival next year, mark my words!!! 4. Bloc Party - I don't know how they can ever top this set. One of my favorite albums played IN REVERSE! 3. The Flaming Lips - Now with seeing them a handful of times, it was nice getting some deeper cuts with the album play! Ego Tripping stood out the most to me. Otherwise, a better than usual set! Wayne kept the banter reeled in and the time between songs was kept to a reasonable length 2. The B-52's - THEY SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME!! Loved the goofy dancing and banter and I was so drained at the end of their set I had to take a knee for parts of Patti and BK. 1. The Raconteurs - NEEDED A LONGER SET! Everything RIPPED live with extended outros and solos and stuff! We even got a Top Yourself/Gloria mashup in honor of Patti! Jack is so gosh blessed talented, I just wish he wasn't so insufferable haha!

Tbh, I can’t see them doing Riot Fest unless they went to a bigger location. There would be security issues like people jumping the fence. I know it was an issue when they came to Lolla in ‘08, but I don’t think Riot Fest could handle all of it.
