My wife and I have been talking recently about how we might never be able to afford a house until our parents die and $25K down payment assistance would change that calculus overnight so fuck yeah Harris/Walz.

Yeah the down payment assistance sounds nice. I feel like renting is still just gonna get worse. Maybe that would alleviate that on the renter side. Worried it's just gonna mean higher prices like with college, though.
Banning banks and investment firms from buying residential properties would be helpful, but this seems like a start.
I make alright money. There's not too many options in my price range, short of living in some run down former industrial cities. Not sure how people make a living closer to Boston, where it's even worse.
More evidence to me that YIMBY is basically a developer lobby, but happy for yall.
I was an architect in the multifamily housing world for 5 years and I describe every low level housing developer as a want to be Trump, even the liberal ones. If you want to socialize all housing development I’m in, but considering that’s not likely to happen any time soon let’s at least stop letting projects get denied because neighbors whining about traffic and crime.

I don't think that YIMBY = opposite of NIMBY. It's just clever branding. I'm not sure the president saying "we're gonna build!" eliminates NIMBY/individual neighborhood concerns. The whole "we're gonna cut through the red tape" language is anti-regulatory and ultimately just nonsense pablum to me.
I'm genuinely very concerned with where attitudes toward homeless people are going. I'm not worried about my rent as much as I'm worried about there being a national movement to eliminate unhoused/mentally ill people. So I do think we need socialized housing or something close to it. Like that should at least be the leftist position, as opposed to building a ton more four-story luxury condos with a Chipotle on level one.
im very glad the housing crisis is being discussed but there is a massive difference between being yimby with good policy and urban design and yimby with bad policy

Yeah I hope this is kinda campaign bs but at the same time, I’d like to actually know my candidates plan. It’ll play well but need something for rent control.
this whole bit has me wanting to whip up some snickers salad
Please never post this again.
i got you.
while owning a trailer is still a great option for people to own housing, reducing the barrier to first time home ownership in other ways is a great goal. I'm not sure how much power can the feds have in aligning tax incentives with zoning to make these homes happen. We're not exactly japan with our zoning system.

Building more housing is not the only thing that needs to happen to curb the cost of housing but it’s probably number one, and a first time homeowner credit is good policy because it won’t inherently affect the cost of homes (like, if everyone got a 25k credit all homes would immediately appreciate 25k, but because theres no way to know someone is a first time buyer it won’t have the same effect).
How you feeling about the move from Joe to Kamala these days?
Dems pulled off a near impossible transition and are in alignment for the first time in my life. If the party elites had gotten an open primary process as they wanted, it would have been an utter trainwreck. But it’s also clear now that the party elites have been misplaying how to handle Trump and MAGA for the last decade and a younger fresh approach was desperately needed.
Kamala picking Tim Walz was also the perfect choice. I was critical of Shapiro being the pick because he brought too much baggage, and it should have been a red flag seeing all the party elites and media immediately jump behind him. Walz has no baggage. When the only attack is he’s somehow too white, you’ve won the messaging.
The best phrase I heard from a Shapiro supporter after reflecting on the Walz pick over Shapiro was that Kamala traded a state (PA) for a state of mind. I don’t think that can be more accurate. I’ve been upfront saying Walz locks up Wisconsin, Michigan, AND Pennsylvania. It’s now all about Harris / Walz running up the votes and helping the down ballot races, particularly in the house.

Have we even seen Trump and Vance together yet? The Harris/Walz image has been very much showcasing them as a duo, but Trump and Vance seem to campaigning completely separately.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Trump barely leaves one of his estates, it's Vance doing most of the campaigning.
Also, I'm pretty sure the entire plan all along was keeping the election close enough so his cronies and the media could throw enough chaos and lead to him "winning" the election in the courts.
Now with Harris and Walz on the ticket, they don't know what to do. Might be getting harder to try and steal it.

Yeah I've been nervous of the theory that the plan is to challenge the election result and bring it to the Supreme Court for them to overturn it. With how bad Thomas and Alito want to retire it doesn't seem that farfetched.

The Harris campaign is at least somewhat prepping for this.

It’s really refreshing to see them taking the worst case scenario seriously rather than dumbly assume the Trump team will be curbed by “norms” like they have for the last 10 years
