Here's what I want out of my (future?) federal government:
- Get money out of politics/reverse Citizen's united - Go after corrupt bankers/wall street and monopolies - Work on getting health care for everyone - Investigate and Prosecute the criminals of this current adiministration - Stop separating families at the border and fix the issues with the current "people in cages" stuff that has kind of gone under the radar the last few months (understandably....I guess). = Ease up on marijuana laws/criminals and work to fix the war on drugs.
Do I think all (or some) of this will be achieved by a Biden/Harris ticket? No. Not at all. I'm disappointed that this is the ticket but I honestly don't think I can survive 4 more years of Donald Trump and his family constantly breaking this country.
I'm voting Biden/Harris and while I don't particularly like it and I don't think they have my personal goals in mind at all I know that Trump his cronies are actively working against things I believe in.

But there's no other option that does "check those boxes" that we have.
I'm still going to push progressive politicians in local and state elections. Still going to push for the ideas that Bernie and AOC and others bring up. Not going to stop that. But I need Trump gone. That's all I was saying.
It's a more palatable version of the same. It makes you feel good about the same exact thing happening. Even if you understand this, it doesn't really make it any better.

I don't believe "the same exact thing" is going to happen under Biden .vs. Trump and that's just silly. I don't think the things I want will be achieved under Biden/Harris but I also don't think Biden presidency will be rolling back a ton of Obama environmental protections and working on dismantling multiple different agencies with people who are directly against those agencies purposes. I don't think Biden will be trying to kill Affordable Care and dismantle the postal service. I assume he'd appoint someone more qualified than Betsy Devos and a bunch of other positions that are unqualified right now.
I'm as negative and pessimistic as they come but I am just saying that Trump is worse. I know the current party doesn't represent what I want. I've made that pretty clear. But I don't want Trump in power anymore.

Fair. I agree with this post, for the most part.
We will absolutely see a continued police state and continue to descend into fascism, though. We've had mass protests and the "resistance" choice is literally the author of the Crime Bill and CA's "Top Cop". We are so incredibly fucked and the Dems are making this explicit: stop hoping, stop caring, there's a Black lady administering the slavery now.

I think the point is, is marginally better really that much better? I am 100% with you on getting Trump out. I want that too, but really that’s the only thing we accomplish with a Biden victory. All of the huge political issues that threaten us today are still going to be there: climate crisis, immigration reform, broken healthcare system, underpaid working class, gun control, racist criminal justice system, rising poverty levels. All these issues predate Trump. I’ve been discussing this election since the VP announcement with a lot of the members of my local community online, and it really is discouraging that their only goal is to get Trump out. I really feel like once they’ve done that, they’ll feel accomplished and pat themselves on the back, and then pack it up for the next 4 years. How do we get them motivated to expect more out of the DNC and actually begin to attack some of these issues in a comprehensive way? Beats me.

I'm not happy about it but it's better than "worse", right?

I've pointed out that I plan to continue to push for progressive candidates and this doesn't make me happy/satisfied or that I will think I can pat myself on the back for this. How do we reach others? I don't know. That's not what I was trying to point out in my post about "what I want" and "what I'm settling for this election".
And I will vote Mike Siegel (House Rep) and any other Dem who tried to earn my vote. Biden and Harris never tried. So fuck them. I don't owe them shit. I'd vote for my cat over Trump. My cat doesn't need to president of the United States.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t referring to you. It’s obvious that you have a plan to support comprehensive policies. I’m just speaking to voters in general. It’s discouraging that a lot of them are not like you and aren’t looking past this November at all. I fear that they’ll be satisfied with a Biden victory and won’t really hold the administration accountable.
I plan on voting Biden, and agree that you should too if you feel right about it. I also get not voting, voting 3rd party. I get it all. It’s all so frustrating on the National level.
While President Trump has long railed against mail-in voting, falsely claiming it leads to rampant fraud, he appeared to confirm Thursday morning that he opposes Democrats' proposed boost in funding for the U.S. Postal Service because he wants to make it harder to expand voting by mail.
"They [the Democrats] want three and a half billion dollars for something that'll turn out to be fraudulent — that's election money basically," Trump said.
Continued the president: "They want $25 billion for the post office. Now, they need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. Now, in the meantime, they aren't getting there. But if they don't get those two items, that means you can't have universal mail-in voting because they're not equipped to have it."
Eight states are mailing ballots to all active voters this fall, including six that have been doing so for years, but most states are not conducting what Trump calls universal mail-in voting.
Continued Trump: "If we don't make a deal, that means they don't get the money. That means they can't have universal mail-in voting. They just can't have it."
Also, EVEN MORE ALARMING, this news by Vice and confirmed by USPS employees -
"The United States Postal Service is removing mail sorting machines from facilities around the country without any official explanation or reason given, Motherboard has learned through interviews with postal workers and union officials. In many cases, these are the same machines that would be tasked with sorting ballots, calling into question promises made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy that the USPS has “ample capacity” to handle the predicted surge in mail-in ballots."
Where do you live? (Can, not answer for personal reasons) because that is the largest factor in your decision.
This isn't a zero sum game. I voted 3rd party in a district that was statistically going Clinton in 2016.
Your vote matters for things that just keep any structure of government together, or you can all let it burn down. And you know who that's going to affect first. Poor people. People without space and resources. So vote green if your vote isn't going to shift anything in your district, but don't keep yelling at people for pointing out that this is an argument over the better evil. WE ALL FUCKING KNOW.

He lives in the 10th district of Texas if he plans to vote for Mike Siegel.

Where I live is in the profile (or I thought it was. Anyway, Houston). I also named the Democratic House candidate I'll be voting for. I'm not hiding anything here.
I know you all know, which is why it's so endlessly bizarre to me that you all react this way when I say basic things that you all understand to be true.
Poor people and immigrants are going to be just as fucked under Biden/Harris, possibly more, because no one will care anymore. That's the point. I just saw that Biden's platform doesn't include the 100-day moratorium on deportations that he promised in the primaries. He's going to get into office and continue Trump's work of crushing these protest movements, supporting ICE, aiding apartheid states and doing coups, etc. We may finally get to go to war with Iran. If you know this, why are you offended?

Offended, and commenting finally after saying silent for a long time, are completely different things.

Just as f*cked under Biden/Harris eh? Seems like there's a shit ton of assuming you are doing here, with this ultra-bleak outlook on the future (without Trump), and the policies and actions by a Biden-Harris Administration.
