In my opinion, any gun law that doesn’t go beyond the point where either party is willing to go is as effective as all these red states who never gave a shit about Covid restrictions. Only when we actually shut down our country did we start to tackle covid and now through vaccines. Banning the sale of new assault weapons or extending background checks are good ideas, but it’s going to do little to significantly change things in a country that already has millions of guns in circulation.
It’d take actions such as government confiscation of weapons, abolishing the second amendment, almost universal banning of gun sales, elimination of concealed carry, and/or elimination of weapons in all public places before we’d see a real change in this country. At least if we wanted to resemble any of these other civilized countries of the world that we wish we could be. It’s too far past the point of no return. And no politicians are going to be willing to enact that type of legislation. Even if Congress tried, then we’d really have our civil war that Trump flirted with
Considering that it's pretty common for mass shooters to stock up within months of the event it seems clear that red tape could absolutely drop the number of events... or at least give them less means to cause maximum harm.
Then the biggest loophole is private sales. Which seems a hopeless case for the reasons you mentioned. It could absolutely be regulated but it likly wont be in our lifetimes. We'll be in a worse world all around by then anyway. So silver lining I guess.
As to government confiscation... that shouldn't happen and if it did it would be a massive waste of resources and political capital. Not to mention a guarantee of violent encounters that put innocent people at risk. In situations that were completely avoidable and unlikely to be deterring latent criminality.
Our shit stain of a governor has done this. It takes effect July 1st. I have a question. How do you know if they are law-abiding Tennesseans if you don’t mandate a background check you dumb ass POS?
Tennessee has become the latest state to soon allow most adults 21 and older to carry handguns without first clearing a background check and training after Gov. Bill Lee on Thursday signed the measure into law. “I signed constitutional carry today because it shouldn’t be hard for law-abiding Tennesseans to exercise their (Second Amendment) rights,” said Lee, a Republican approaching his reelection campaign for 2022, in a tweet.

I think a combination of buybacks and restrictions on manufacturing would help reduce the number on the streets, and also reduce the need to do private sales if you're just trying to quickly get rid of guns to get some money back and you're just selling it to some joker on craigslist

Interesting how southern states like this are fine with expanding gun rights like this but so absolutely terrified of the existence of trans people. I'm curious what the response would be if LGBT community starts buying guns.

Well, the NRA did support gun control when the Black Panthers were going around California armed

That shit was so insane. I kept yelling at the idiots on TV. thejeremy was super amused by me.
I've finally made it to the 6th and final episode of the Q documentary. It's all nuts, but it's getting insane now. I cannot imagine what I would do if I had to continue living in a Trump-led America. I almost forgot how bad it was last year.

is it worth watching if I already paid a lot of attention to the Q stuff?

The film maker spent 3 years on it so I would think so.
I figured it wasnt gonna take longer than tomorrow to get a verdict in. What is concerning is the sentencing. This judge is gonna give him like half of what thw guidelines say and he is out in like 3 years or something.

I knew about qanon for a couple years (I think I first heard about it in 18) and there was a lot of info that I got from it. That being said, I only ever really knew high level stuff. The doc absolutely points to one person in particular being behind at least a decent chunk of it. At the very least, it’s interesting to see the people pulling the strings dealing with it in real time.
It kind of reminded me of the Fyre festival doc in that there were key players that I knew to not believe a single word from

I’d say the first episode is a lot of info, some interesting and others stuff you probably already know. Second episode is kinda slow. But then it picks up pace and you get kinda hooked. The last two are pretty intense
I’d recommend it to anyone who cares to learn more. My wife was confused a lot in the first episode so she gave up
