]I get the impulse to be concerned, but one can legislate the robot dogs to not be allowed to have any sort of attacking mechanism in it. I would imagine thats already the case. Cant do that with German Shepherds.
I want to have this optimism. I just look at how policing is done these days and it worries me. Yeah, we can legislate and make rules and laws and stuff but that requires the cops to follow them. We've already legislated stuff about them not killing unarmed suspects and abusing their authority but that doesn't seem to stop them.
I also assume that as of now there's no "attack" mechanism or whatever. That doesn't mean there couldn't be accidental deaths when things don't go according to plan.
Basically, I don't like cops getting all these new tools and weapons when they've shown they have trouble serving and protecting with the stuff they already have.
If a cop is going to mistake a taser for a gun and murder people maybe we don't need to give them robot dogs and shit.
Fwiw that legislation is toothless when it’s never enforced

Yeah, that's my concern. Just like how high level politicians are breaking laws in clear daylight. If the laws aren't being enforced and people aren't being held accountable for their actions then what's the point of having the law at all?

Then there's also this:
It's so fucked how much money goes into police and military budgets. There are SO MANY FUCKING PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY that throwing money at would help significantly. But the money tends to go towards this other shit.

Oh shit.....apparently cops already used a robot dog (not in NY) to kill a suspect. I hadn't heard about this story or maybe didn't realize/remember how it ended at least. Look up "Micah Johnson". Granted....he had killed multiple people and was not going to go down peacefully it seems but this just sets the precedent. Now they know they can send in the robot dog if a situation seems dangerous.
Officers opened negotiations for surrender but Johnson said he would speak to black police officers only. Johnson stated that he had acted alone and was not part of any group. According to Chief Brown, Johnson appeared delusional during his standoff; "We had negotiated with him for about two hours, and he just basically lied to us, playing games, laughing at us, singing, asking how many did he get and that he wanted to kill some more." By about 2:30 a.m.,[30] Chief Brown saw no possibility of negotiating further[31] and made the decision to use a bomb disposal remote control vehicle armed with about 1 pound (0.45 kilograms) of C-4 explosive. The plan was to move the robot to a point against a wall facing Johnson and then detonate the explosives. The device exploded as intended, killing Johnson immediately. The robot, while sustaining damage to its extended arm, was still functional.
I don't like or trust those fucking robots they have rolling around supermarkets so I'm definitely going to be suspicious of these robot dogs.

I don't like the robot dogs but that is actually cheaper than I would've guessed.
If it's not bullshit, then Biden is just systematically tearing down the Obama legacy. Obama convinced us there were all these super high-brow reasons why we couldn't pull out troops, give families for kids, pass a big infrastructure bill, and it seems like Biden is just going to do this stuff. Really proof that the Dems wasted eight fucking years in power with Obama.

Yep.
I'm just a little skeptical because Biden said this as VP, as well. But he's the guy in charge now.
Does her gun have a safety? And did she manually turn it off before shooting?
if it was a glock, which is a very popular law enforcement gun, there is no active safety. it has passive systems built in to protect from accidental discharges (e.g. getting dropped), but there is no manual safety mechanism to prevent trigger pulls. the gun is always "ready to fire"
The footage of Adam Toledo, A 13 YEAR OLD KID, being shot by the Chicago police is absolutely devastating. His hands were in the fucking air as the policeman shot him. No gun in sight. Just a straight up murder of a fucking child.

Yeah, I watched it earlier and it's shitty. I've seen some people claiming that he had a gun and probably tossed it behind the fence opening that he reached before stopping. Even if that's the case it was clear that the cop said "Show me your hands" and when he turned and complied (with nothing in his hands) he was shot immediately. No hesitation. Hands went up and shot was fired. Crazy. It was also sick hearing them and paramedics pleading with him to "stay awake" and "stay with us" as they tried to save his life after the shooting.

Chicago is painfully realizing that the voted for the biggest wolf in sheeps clothing in the name of Lori Lightfoot for Mayor. She makes Eric Garcetti look like a saint.

There are bastards, there are police and then there are Chicago police
We wake up to a new mass shooting every fucking day. I can’t believe we’ve just accepted this as the norm.
I don't see anything changing anytime soon. Too many in this country are obsessed with guns or think any kind of reform/legislation = "they're coming to take all your guns away and leave you defenseless!"
If a mass shooting at an elementary school that left 26 dead isn't enough to change people's minds then what is? I don't think there's anything that will change some folks mindset.
Gun laws are just going to get less strict. As a country we don’t give a fuck if people die from gun violence. There is no catastrophic incident that will ever change this.
In my opinion, any gun law that doesn’t go beyond the point where either party is willing to go is as effective as all these red states who never gave a shit about Covid restrictions. Only when we actually shut down our country did we start to tackle covid and now through vaccines. Banning the sale of new assault weapons or extending background checks are good ideas, but it’s going to do little to significantly change things in a country that already has millions of guns in circulation.
It’d take actions such as government confiscation of weapons, abolishing the second amendment, almost universal banning of gun sales, elimination of concealed carry, and/or elimination of weapons in all public places before we’d see a real change in this country. At least if we wanted to resemble any of these other civilized countries of the world that we wish we could be. It’s too far past the point of no return. And no politicians are going to be willing to enact that type of legislation. Even if Congress tried, then we’d really have our civil war that Trump flirted with
