Do you even know what the Libertarian Party stands for? RFK Jr supports an increase in the minimum wage, protecting lands from drilling and mining, expanding the power of the EPA to deal with pollution, collective bargaining for workers. Libertarian's don't want the government involved basically in anything.
His views are a little spread out all over the spectrum. Mostly left-leaning, but for sure some Libertarian and a little Conservative. His best description would just be an Independent. But you can't say he has nothing in common with them. He's anti-war and very skeptical of government institutions.
As long as the more far Right groups within the Libertarians have their say, he won't be the candidate for them. But it would not surprise me if he's their candidate by November.
I'm also curious as to how accurate those reports are in regards to Trump's team considering him as the VP.

Spend literally 2 minutes on his website. He makes no sense as a libertarian candidate.

“Tough on Crime” yet crime continues to fall across the country.
We had the largest drop in homicides in 2023 nationwide. Basically every category crime saw large reductions as well.
In Minnesota, we hit a 60-year low in total-crime rate. Car thefts were down 8%, carjackings were down 38% jakicker. Rapes down 20%.
The amount of online rhetoric about how the twin cities is some hollowed-out hellhole from the George Floyd protests is still pretty consistent coming on 4 years. It’s the same false narrative as people saying Chicago is a constant Wild West shoot out.
Edit: Here’s the most relevant quote from that politico article:
”It’s the perception of increased crime that is driving many of these changes as Republicans continue to pillory Democrats as weak on law enforcement in the run-up to the presidential election.“

We finally have a competent police superintendent and the NOPD is gaining more cops than losing them, which was not the case for a long time. Crime numbers are down significantly. I think it’s more that she’s competent than anything else. Everyone respects her in and outside of the force.
New GOP Governor wants to be “tough on crime” and has introduced numerous new bills with tougher sentences. It’s not going to do shit to prevent crime
Of course, SF/DC/NYC actually going with "tough on crime" tactics will do pretty much nothing - as the GOP will label any blue state city a godforsaken crime riddled hellhole regardless of the statistics.
He needs to give as many publicly televised speeches as possible. This has been great, with a few rare exceptions. And he's been sharp and funny giving republicans shit.
If a young Democrat woman gave a response speech, Republicans would dismiss it out of hand to begin with. But they'd lose their damn minds if she said her daughter and son were named Bennett and Ridgeway. That is all.
The GOP with a great self own by forcing Katie Britt to do her speech from the kitchen.
Not a self own if that's what they stand for and stand by, just an example of who they are. Er, I guess that IS a self own. I noticed it immediately and L'ed OL.
She was so amped up that she was trembling a couple times, and I think I saw a Bidenesque lip quiver a time or two. Her delivery was a typical modern, formulaic, social media-style display of fake outrage that MAGA types will eat up and everyone else will laugh at, but expecting anything else would be foolish.
Biden definitely spaced out a couple times, but it was a long speech and he regained his composure quickly and didn't get off track. I honestly thought it was a strong and coherent performance. The concerns about his age are absolutely legit, but he seemed very sharp to me, and his attacks on the GOP and their dear leader were strong. I'd give him at least a solid B+ and Katie Britt a C/C+. He could have baited the GOP a little more, and Britt droned on and on without varying her Karen tone, but neither S'ed the bed or did anything shocking.
Surprised they didn't take the opportunity to show her long skirt and maybe even get racy and display her ankles, too.
And I'm all for creativity in all aspects of life, but Ridgeway though... Ridgeway! Disclaimer: Due to generous financial aide, I had the good fortune to attend a private high school for my final three years, for which I will forever be grateful, for the quality of education, the doors it opened, and getting to witness incredible disparities firsthand. You know that kid ain't never goin' to no public school though! I bet Katie grew up on a culdesac named Ridge Way.

Biden’s old as fuck, but so is Trump. One of them rambles incoherently, unable to maintain their train of thought; the other slurs a word every now and then while living with a speech impediment and clearly has a broad grasp of the issues, as evidenced by his many, many sharp ad libs. It’s not a complicated choice.

These arguments always sound like “our super old guy who is showing clear signs that he is too old to have the most important and demanding position of power in the world is less super old acting than your super old guy.” My grandpa could beat up your grandpa.
Even saying it’s not a complicated choice implies that we ever had a choice to begin with. I’d love for someone to give the argument that we ever had a choice when it came down to these two being our candidates.

Grandpa vs. Insurrectionist Grandpa.
If your brain can’t compute those binary options and you’re still looking for something else, stay home.

The choice was four years ago. When you nominate a presidential candidate, you nominate them with an expectation that if they win, they’ll run again.

He’s mad the MAGA-GQP gave him the same option when Louisiana hasn’t even gotten to their primary yet…

Biden hinted around a lot about being a one term transitional presidential candidate back in 2019, likely to get people afraid of his age over FOUR YEARS AGO to still vote for him. And he also made claims recently that he’s only running again because it’s against Trump.
I for sure fell for it. I held out a lot of hope that he’d win in 2020 and they’d spend those four years building up a replacement candidate to take his place. And it never happened and I’m pissed off about it.
We all voted in historical numbers for Biden in 2020 and it was all because we did not want trump elected again. It was a vote against trump and not a vote for Biden.
I’m not satisfied with the product I was promised and I want a refund. I don’t want a president who supports two wars, one of which is a genocide.
If you want to beat Trump, you really have two options here: 1. You have an inspiring and strong candidate who people are eager to follow and vote for. This is not Biden. 2. You hope you can win the same way you did in 2020 by assuming people will show up to vote against Trump. You need a safe pick who people generally are fine with and don’t have strong opinions about. Biden has terrible approval ratings. People have real reasons to not like the guy. This is not Biden
