I don't see the value in comparing a rehearsed speech that uses a teleprompter like the SOTU with something more extemporaneous like last night where he'd get lost between the start of a sentence and the end of it. Even his most delusional fans know that was rough.
Nobody’s denying it was rough. It was really bad. But for the most part when you look at the transcripts of what he was actually saying it was coherent and showed a grasp of the facts and policy; it was just presented horribly (yes, I’m not denying there were points during which he was not so coherent). The optics were the main problem. And thus the reason I highlight speeches is to illustrate that this was an outlier in terms of his presentation.
In my view, he should book at least one but ideally multiple lengthy sit down nationally televised interviews or town halls ASAP, which is frankly a better format for judging someone’s ability to be President than a debate with 90 second sound bites anyhow. If his team doesn’t think he can do that, then A) I have no clue why they thought a debate would be a good idea, and B) he should drop out. If he does those and they go horribly as well then yes, drop out. But if they go well, it’s the swiftest way to counter the narrative he’s reinforced with that debate.
And regardless, it’s frustrating that it’s yet another case of dems being held to a higher standard. Biden was the more coherent and factually accurate of the two in that stage, but because he presented himself like a walking corpse, that’s all that matters.

Also, while it's too early to say this definitively, every post-debate poll shows little to no impact. Morning Consult: Biden lost no immediate ground; SurveyUSA showed Trump +2 (about in line with most polls pre-debate; they hadn't polled since last year so no good comp); 538/Ipsos showed Biden losing 1.6 points. None of that is devastating unless it snowballs. Obama was hurt far more by his debate with Romney.
Yes we can. Michelle + Bey 2024. The Dems suddenly squash all talk of black voter apathy, and we see some positivity instead of 100% negativity 100% of the time in American politics. Another problem is solved when the heads of old, white, male right wingers start exploding spontaneously.
Wow if Posty joins the peppas the set will be good. Maybe since JOhn FRusciante is back I haven't seen them with john frusicante so i'm looking forward to it.
It’s not like Biden is running around leading every department. My gawd people, chill out. We are also voting for the President’s administration. Id much rather have Pete Buttigieg running Transportation than some big Oil & Gas Executive or conspiracy theorist.

tbf just about every answer he had was a rehearsed, canned answer which I think might’ve contributed to the problem. Wonder if he’d be better if he cut loose from the script a little.

Yeah thats what not stupid people will do. Many people will vote based on dumber logic.

I wouldn't but much faith in one day samples. We really need to wait until next when polls with 3 or 4 day samples are released

Agreed - like I said, too early to say definitively. But the polls were still entirely post-debate. In addition, a Univision focus group of undecided Latino voters was almost unanimously pro-Biden after the debate. My point is simply that everyone needs to cool their jets with the “it’s over” shit
I absolutely regret donating $30 to Bernie back in 2016. I put a fake name “Marty” and now I get 30-40 texts and 5-10 calls every day from people trying to get me to donate. They’re all addressed to Marty
And it has at least doubled or tripled since the debate

Always reply “stop” to these texts. It’s the closest thing to a rebuttal you have, telecom companies are supposed to take you off the list if you do that (but there are SO MANY LISTS)
I’ve of late started getting GOP texts, so someone in my extended family is fucking with me unfortunately. Feels good reply with a fuck you though.

Did you donate through Actblue? You know you can opt out of emails and texts, right? I've donated through them a lot over the years. Most of it to Sanders and I don't get anything from them. If you opt in I'm pretty sure they put you on the huge Dem database.
The only reason I ever get political texts is because I was a campaign volunteer and opted in to his messages, etc. So I'll get stuff for Senate races and local "I'm nobody. Help me beat MTG" folks.

I've never seen a libertarian go so hard for Biden

Those numbers are insane.
That’s the numbers from the past couple days. I should’ve worded that better in the original message. It’s been wild, though. It was only mildly annoying prior.

No, I got that part. Was just saying it’s insane. Bugging the shit out of me isn’t the way to get me to donate or go vote for someone.
The texts are annoying but I'll never regret giving to Bernie.
I do regret giving literally one single dollar to Tulsi to try and get her in the debate (# of donors was a metric they used). I was wrong for that. But oh well. I don't think she ended up in that debate anyway.
