In the summer, I work in lawncare, fertilizing grass and killing weeds. During the school year, I’m at Georgia and I study political science and philosophy.
philosophy major checking in, I hope you like making coffee.
I think paired w Poli sci it’s a good pre-law 1/2 punch without the dedication of actually doing pre-law.
What does everybody here do for jobs? We've been drafting for years and I know virtually nothing about a whole bunch of you.
I'm a loan processor for a mortgage company. Recently went back to school to study math and computer science, kinda the reason I've been MIA from inforoo for a while

Well I’m about to start med school in a month after a couple years out of school, which I’m excited (/mad nervous) about. So I’ll be accruing hella debt for 4 years, but it will hopefully pay off.
9 hours late to this convo, but I will bet you good money I have more student loan debt than almost anyone on this board. 😂 It’s outrageous.
Plus I actually like it and politics is what I wanna do so maybe philosophy will improve my life
Philosophy is great if you want to go into law. Being able able to construct, deconstruct, and defend against arguments is valuable. My girlfriend hates it.

I majored in Poli Sci as well with minors in psych and sociology. I think those kind of majors are fine as long as you have a plan, use your advisors and mentors, get internships, etc... I didn’t, so my entire undergrad felt pretty pointless. 2 months after graduating I was looking around like what the fuck did I do all this for. All throughout my time when older people were asking me what I wanted to do, I would respond with something like “im not sure yet. I dont want to be a lawyer or a politician, but Im really interested in the subject matter.” Everyone would say “ahh its ok to not know yet.” Like deep into my third year. I don't agree with that sentiment at all. You can actually just be wasting away your college experience if you are majoring in something that doesn’t give you much flexibility AND you don’t have a plan / aren’t actively working towards finding a plan.
I get the feeling that most of you all are more focused than I was though lol.
How do you like it? I very much am looking at switching industries and was thinking of going into hospitality.
The pay isn't great. The hours are long. Lots of holidays and weekends, especially early in a career. You're also at the mercy of the guests' expectations.
Scheduling is usually pretty flexible, however, and you get some pretty deep hotel discounts. Also, you should be surrounded by outgoing and kind co-workers (if your property is hiring the right way).
