I don't know if he fucked moses. They haven't talked about it. Ronan did say that Woody did offer him financial assistance in exchange for disparaging mia. Moses went through a divorce, and right after he started hating Mia (my friend told me this and I didn't check the dates, if that's wrong). Seems pretty lucky for woody.
no I'm just saying the hypothetical coaching/scripting applies to both.
I made statements about how I don't think mia is blameless, and I can easily see a scenario that she has a bigger hand in the whole thing, and was told that was a big stretch and less believable than the truth, and then two people did the same thing with woody/moses/soon.

wouldn't the accusations coming out shortly after mia finds out he's sleeping with her daughter sort of be the same thing re: timing?
lots of people reevaluate their lives following divorce so idk that's not really a big coincidence to me.
idk I think both of them are horrible people who ruined these kids lives but I just don't know if I believe he raped his adopted child because it's a big jump from being into seniors in highschool.
lol I don't want anyone to think I'm a monster. I don't even like him as a person or artist. if a nail hit the coffin and he went down I wouldn't care at all, where something like Watson that's brutal because I've been a fan, and it's going to change my opinion on him.
just saying if I express doubts and use coaching as an example, if yall are telling me don't think like that or watch the doc and see if you still feel that way. you can't follow that up with the same sort of hyperbole the other way, it's only going to put me back in doubt.
it's not michael jackson with a pattern with cochran vs some random parents, it's two multi millionaires, in a custody fight, and the one who didn't hire Dershowitz walked. idk maybe I'll watch it but again the doc doesn't seem to go into mia, so I'm not really sure how much it's going to sway me other than make me feel gross watching it.

Wait, you have not watched the HBO documentary? Do so, then get back to us.

First off, this isn't the first time that this has come out. It was KNOWN in the 90s about his relationship and a bunch of actors stopped working for him because of it. Secondly, go watch the doc. You need to get all the facts in order to make a real conclusion.

yes he had a pattern of hooking up with teenage girls, but there's no pattern of child abuse. that's a cultural thing though. leo does that shit. it's gross, and specifically your girlfriend's daughter is next level disgusting. like that's enough for me to be out on him.
and I'm saying from what I can see about the doc it does not have all the facts, something that tv writers have brought up.

It was kind of lumped in with the "I don't know....maybe he just has some fetishes" stage of things. Definitely weirded me out though, when surrounded by the other context lol

Well, for starters, hooking up with teenage girls is a form of child abuse. So let's just get that out of the way. It doesn't matter what the "age of consent" is, that doesn't make it ok. And to compare that to Leo, who is admittedly still dating girls between 20-25 when he's in his 40s which is not the best look, is much different than a dude in this 50s fucking his 16 year old step-daughter who's still in high school. 🤷🏻♀️
And secondly, who's to stay there's not a pattern of child abuse? We know of at least one case. Which he did on multiple occasions. So I'd call that a pattern. And who knows if there's more.
I'm just confused why you're going so far out of your way to justify his actions in some way when you don't even seem to be a fan of his. Why is it harder to believe a grown man who has so much to lose is lying, than it is to believe a 7 year old girl with nothing to lose isn't?
I think the guy is really funny and I've enjoyed a lot of his work but this will likely damage him a bit. He already turned a bunch of people off after his interview in Playboy magazine a year or two ago where he talks about some of his kinks. Talks about being in an open marriage but also admitted that it wasn't open when he first got married. So it comes off like he married his girlfriend/young love and then blew up in popularity with acting and wanted to take advantage of the perks (being girls who want to sleep with him). At worst he came off as a bit pervy and also lame for kinda backing his wife into a corner with that. I believe they got divorced soon after. So this is just another example that may hurt his career. We'll see.

yikes I missed that.
fingers crossed Jean Ralphio was not a projection of the real life Schwartz

Yeah, I saw a lot of comments about it since I follow a bunch of improv/Comedy Bang Bang podcast people and areas (reddit, message board). If I recall correctly the Playboy interview just made him sound kinda shitty and like he maybe wasn't on the same page as his wife but was enjoying being able to indulge in some kinkier sides of life. Felt like he maybe didn't realize how he was coming off and at worst that he was not considering his partner's feelings possibly.
But this stuff with alleged groping and persistent come ons is a bit different. It's one thing to not get the message but once you start putting your hands on another person's body that's crossing a line.

really interesting podcast on "cancel culture". good listen for those who like nerding out about this kind of stuff. i think a lot of the debate over "is cancel culture good or bad" gets messy because we don't really have a definition of what "cancel culture" is. for example, without analyzing all the posts in this thread, most of the stuff here is pretty cut and dry. if middleditch is groping women at the club he should be scorned for that. but if someone tweets a joke ("if biden really wanted unity, he'd lynch Mike Pence", see the podcast above) should he be fired from his job because of the outrage it causes?
without totally rehashing the podcast, and at the risk of oversimplification, my issue with cancel culture is when cancellation attempts are done in bad faith, i.e. something someone said is taken wildly out of context, or even worse outright lies are told about a person, and then these lies are used to get this person fired. we can rightfully argue that any organization has the right to fire or cease providing contract work to whoever, but the problem with this is that risk-averse businesses will do this to somebody just because they don't want the bad press a twitter mob can create, even if the cancellee does good work and the business itself doesn't think the cancellee is a bad person.
on the flipside, reputation is truly everything, and my paragraph above isn't intended to give an individual carte blanche to say whatever they want and then scream "cancel culture bad" when they are called out for it. i'm all for changing language norms and pushing the culture forward to create a more welcoming and egalitarian society that reduces suffering and provides everyone the freedom and safety to pursue whatever their definition of happiness is. but we also need to be able to talk about difficult topics in good faith, including those related to sex and race issues, which are so often the focus of these language based cancellation attempts.
but on the flipside of the flipside! and this is starting to depart the topic of cancel culture, i think we as a society spend too much time talking about language used and not enough time talking about policies and funding that will actually help people. This superb column from Ezra Klein explains this better than I ever could.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that whole deal. I was disappointed (not just in the news that the cast and some crew were being shitty/not defending her when she was around....that goes without saying) that she didn't become a full time cast member and join the group of coders as her character was pretty cool and I wanted more from her. Not sure if she was ever meant to be around longer but I imagine the people being so harassing/unprofessional towards her would make her want to bail ASAP.
She was great in People of Earth and is apparently on that new Alan Tudyk show Resident Alien which i've been meaning to start.
kumail seems like just a sweetheart. martin starr, could see him being more of an asshole than a creep
and
I could see Kumail being totally a sheep/follower kind of guy and join in on razzing or jokes. He seems super sweet nowadays but he was definitely a nerdy kind of guy that came off like.....maybe like a "nice guy" who maybe would have used his humor to be make jokes about hot guys or girls who he maybe was self conscious about or something. Some of his stand-up or humor comes across as bitter but now that he has a big movie career and made that sweet movie about his wife and their love everyone loves him. I still like him and his comedy but this was surprising to hear. The fact that she says he was the worst really makes me wonder how.
I want to believe Martin Starr and Kumail Nanjiani are both generally good guys but I could easily see them joining in on a "boys club" kind of tone on set. Especially with TJ and possibly Thomas being a bit more vocal/ready to go there with jokes or hazing/shitty behavior.

Yeah Kumail's a fucking asshole from what I've heard. Mostly catty stand up comic stuff, bumping people from spots and being an ass to other comedians.

Do you guys remember Thomas Middleditch as Dwight's brother from the Office? He was supposed to be part of that potential spinoff that would have focused on Dwight, his sister & nephew, and his cousin running the beet farm/bed & breakfast. I liked that episode and would have liked to see how that played out but critics didn't like it and NBC passed on it.
Anyway, I always liked the family singalong covering The Decembrists "Sons & Daughters" to close out the episode. Especially Dwight courting the potential love interest.
