Do you guys remember Thomas Middleditch as Dwight's brother from the Office? He was supposed to be part of that potential spinoff that would have focused on Dwight, his sister & nephew, and his cousin running the beet farm/bed & breakfast. I liked that episode and would have liked to see how that played out but critics didn't like it and NBC passed on it.
Anyway, I always liked the family singalong covering The Decembrists "Sons & Daughters" to close out the episode. Especially Dwight courting the potential love interest.
Don't remember that at all lol
Definitely late into the run. Maybe final season? Most people seem to not remember a lot from those cuz....ya know. Not the best.
Still....I was down for more Dwight and weird Schrute family stuff if they picked it up.

this feels like the exact purpose of this song, and many other Decemberists songs in fact
So I read an article yesterday that said that Joss Wheaton has been blacklisted in Hollywood. I know it's a good thing, because damn, he did some shitty shit, but I feel like my whole nerd-verse has been destroyed and tainted.
Like, I was a Whedonverse nerd. I'm so mad at him.

I'll still always love Buffy, Firefly, and Dollhouse. Of course, I'll probably have some "oh yeah....Joss is shitty" thoughts at times.

Firefly is so good.
When my wife was pregnant with our first kid, near the due date she couldn't do much and we spent a ton of time on the couch and binged Firefly. First time for both of us, but my English lit roommate in college had been talking about it forever (when he got drunk he'd wax poetic on...everything but to his credit he was saying in ~2007 that game of thrones would be $$$).
Rewatched it when she was preggo with baby #2.
We watched buffy and dollhouse too, and liked them! but firefly is the only one we'd probably ever rewatch again.

I mean, I watched them all pretty regularly. Buffy has a very special place in my heart.
The second season when the world ends in it is pretty fucking great. But the first season just really exposes how whedon feels about women. I've watched it several times and not too long ago. And angel is no way in hell better than buffy. There would be no angel without buffy.

Angel as a whole is a better series than Buffy. Cordelia, Wesley & Angel are all much better developed. The episodes are more consistently good, too.
Buffy is funnier and has higher highs but it also has lower lows.

Did you just seriously write that Cordelia, wesley and angel are better than the Scooby gang?!? You are fucking insane.
Besides the fact that they all got they're first showing on Buffy. RIDICULOUS!

Who cares where they got their first showing?
I didn't say that they were better, I said that their characters were much better developed on Angel.
The issue with Buffy is that for every Hush, The Body, or Once More With Feeling there's a Beer Bad, Where The Wild Things Are or, well, most of the first season.

Was he the big EDM DJ that had some accusation pop up a couple years ago? Or was it someone else? I don't know my EDM well but I remember it being a big name and that his hardcore fans really defended him against any wrongdoing.

Datsik was a few years ago. BN was sometime in the past year.

Nah, see it was definitely a huge name. I don't know half of those people being named but I remember it being a pretty huge name. Maybe his name was just brought up around those other accusations but I swore there was something where he was being defended (or some other EDM name at his level 4-8 years ago).
Either way....doesn't matter. Sucks so many people like young folk.

Then it was probably Diplo.
That's my gut, too, but I can't remember what the context was.

can we talk about ellen degeneres?
i've never watched her show other than maybe a clip here and there, but i'm aware of it and her general schtick of dancing and being kind and being friends with GWB or whatever.
most of my social media consumption is via reddit, which especially in the popular subs is a hivemind, and people on reddit really, really hate ellen degeneres. i've been somewhat aware of her slow fall from grace over the past few years, but i just read a few timeline articles laying out her various sins that have led to this hate. what i determined is (a) she is certainly privileged and wealthy and has dropped a handful of gaffes as a result, like equating being quarantined to her mansion as like being in prison, (b) she is most likely an asshole at times, and (c) is probably a poor manager of her show, delegating most of the management to her crew who appear to have treated cast and some guests poorly and done a bad job of communication.
these are all perfectly valid reasons to not like a celebrity, but do they warrant the aggressive hatred and pure vitriol tossed at her? not to get all identity politics-y but would she be so hated if she was a man? or straight? or young and conventionally beautiful?
it just seems like i've seen less bombs thrown at actual criminals like weinstein or cosby.
reading over the above maybe my argument is weak, this is has been something i've wanted to discuss for a while and reddit is a terrible place to do so. i'm also likely biased by the fact that she was like, the first lesbian in hollywood, and it took a hell of a lot of courage for her to come out like that. not that that excuses poor behavior, it just seems like the hatred she receives is not proportionate to her sins.
