Oh I am about to get into facebook fights over this Pepe thing. Like if you think that isn't rape culture, please go watch all those episodes again and then answer me these questions honestly:
1. You think it is ok to grab and kiss on women without permission? 2. You think it is ok to make that woman not even able to speak in the role to continue the "gag" of the chase? 3. Do you think it is actually acceptable to do the things he does in the cartoon in real life?
I think 2 is an interesting point. I don't think the cartoon is coding Pepe's behavior as acceptable, though. He is a skunk who makes other animals faint with his stench. I can see how it is a joke in poor taste, that maybe it is normalizing bad behavior, but I don't think it is encouraging it explicitly.
Lame if they took out a scene where LeBron teaches him about consent. Sounds like something that could have been funny and also thoughtful, if handled well.

I don't think any of those things are funny. and I never said it wasn't problematic.
I'm saying the underlying concept of the animal tension is funny. like tom and jerry is about a mouse chasing a cat, fox and the hound is about a dog and a fox being friends.
none of that has to do with writers/executives butchering the concept with extreme misogyny.

Oh I wasn't calling you out. I am trying to not fight on facebook and vented further on here.
using this moment to remind everyone that Apex Legends has been the best FPS Battle Royale for a while and the annoying people over there are only annoying for meta related reasons<3

Haha what's the meta reason?
streamers playing a certain, super aggressive play style, and complaining incessantly about defensive characters being overpowered, when in reality all the stats show the defensive characters have some of the lowest win rates. but then EA / Respawn bow down to the streamers and nerf the fuck out of the defensive characters that non-pros such as myself really enjoy. and of course there are plenty of non-pros online as well that believe whatever the streamers push.
but hey, never once heard a slur in game chat, so that's cool.
100%. I have seen too many of these today. I don't understand how I am friend's with these people.
I used to delete them but now I just antagonize them for fun because that seems productive lol
I normally would ignore. I have engaged with a few today and I annoyed now. I have started snoozing them. If they come back after a month with the same shit on my feed, I'll then delete. I am tired of "cancel culture outrage."
I exist in such a bubble/echo chamber. Over the past week or two or however long it's been I've seen exactly ZERO posts from anyone complaining about Mr. Potato Head or Dr. Seuss or Pepe le Pew, but I have seen an endless supply of posts on FB/Twitter/TikTok of leftists/liberals explaining why people on the right are wrong about this that or the other.
This isn't to say that those people complaining don't exist, obviously, they just never grace with me with their presence. I do however think that the left does a terrific job of amplifying the manufactured concern of the right though. Like if they hadn't mentioned it, I'd never even know about it. But instead the left gives the right so much exposure.

"FB/Twitter/TikTok of leftists/liberals" arguing about cartoon characters
The Mr Potato Head thing is very funny. Pretty much the most boring toy I can think of. Just paste googly eyes on an actual potato.
It makes sense to sell 'potato head' with the mr & mrs pieces included. That one is too stupid to even response to and I don't get people's outage.
The Dr. Seuss I ignore because it was Dr. Seuss' estate that pulled six books to preserve his legacy. And anyone saying anything against it is just ignorant and lazy and doesn't even realize that. 🙄
I could have looked past the Pepe post I commented on if it wasn't a medical profession person saying he wasn't promoting rape culture. That was my breaking point.
I'm tired of cancel culture outrage and cancel culture. Slightly more over cancel culture outrage, but I pretty evenly hate them both. They just feed off each other (obviously) and neither really provide any true mechanisms for growth or progression.
Person A does a terrible thing, either currently or more likely in their past. Person B cancels them regardless of what Person A says or does to try to grow, change, or evolve. Person C gets pissed off that person B is so pissed off, regardless of whether they agree with at all with why person B is angry. Repeat cycle.

This was me with people complaining about people complaining about Phoebe Bridgers smashing her guitar. The world is just different for people who don’t use Twitter.
The whole made up outrage over getting rid of Lola Bunny’s knockers is hilarious though.
Mostly, political correctness, and then, cancel culture in general,is a function of corporate liability, and certainly NOT a formula for putting, and keeping love in your heart.
Not that some changes in our culture weren't long overdue. But an eraser is no way to learn from our history.
I'm sick of it being calling canceled culture. It's fucking accountability.
New information, new decisions. Yes, people can change and deserve second chances when they do. But the problem is people are fucking horrible and don't want to change. They want what is comfortable and familiar.
They cry false outage at shit and cement further into those ideals, and social media amplifies that bad behavior. Yeah, I definitely need to quit Facebook again.

I mean, it's consequence culture but it's easy for the 'fuck your feelings' crowd to sneer at any attempt to be sensitive to anyone other than middle aged white men. They lack empathy and they like Trump.
