It always is weird because, and not that it's really any of our business anyway, but whenever accusations or allegations come out and they're mysterious or vague it just opens the whole topic to all sorts of speculation. It's hard to tell how serious some of these issues are comparatively but I assume if something's being investigated and action is being taken then it must be credible and serious.
In 1993, original “The Wonder Years” costume designer Monique Long sued the actor for sexual harassment. People reported that Long said Savage repeatedly told her, “Oh, Monique, I’m so in love with you. Please have an affair with me.” She also said he asked her out on dates and tried to hold her hand.
He would have been like, 16 or 17 at the time. While totally inappropriate to repeatedly ask someone to have an affair, this seems wild. It shouldn't be hard for producers etc. to get a minor in check regarding behavior, right? But maybe that is just indicative of the way producers, etc. look the other way for the "star".

The Billboard Music Awards are on Sunday and, in a new interview, host and executive producer Sean “Diddy” Combs explained why the show will feature performances from controversial figures Morgan Wallen and Travis Scott. “One of the things I’m doing directly is un-canceling the canceled. That’s breaking news because people haven’t been about uncanceling. But canceling is a trend that needs to stop,” Diddy told ‘Billboard.’ “Travis went through a tragedy; Morgan [used the N-word] while talking to his boy. People make mistakes. Now we’re moving on with love and respect for everybody that was hurt or affected. It’s time to forgive. To have Morgan and Travis be able to come back and touch the stage again with the mindset of getting a second chance at life. Everybody in the room is getting a second chance at life, you know, because we’re back outside with no masks on. We need love and I’m excited about celebrating that.”
I can't believe how much this idea of "cancelling" people has taken over this country/world. Sure, there are some people who just sit online and constantly look for reasons to complain about celebs but really for the most part the only "cancelled" people who have had real, substantial consequences were ones that committed crimes and other horrible actions. Comedians, musicians, entertainers, actors, political commentators, and people who have been criticized for things they say or belive in are not being "cancelled" in the way they try to pretend they are. So many of the ones who complain about cancel culture or being censored have various platforms and ways to reach thousands to millions of people and it's getting so fucking tiring to hear the victim complex come from so many. I can't believe how many recent comedy specials are titled or about "triggered" shit.
Also....saying "Travis went through a tragedy" doesn't really fit with what he was getting backlash about, right?
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 11/18 - Slowdive @ Brooklyn Paramount 11/21 - Caribou @ Avant Gardner 11/23 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center 11/25 - TV on the Radio @ Webster Hall 12/5 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center 12/7 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center
Even the most “cancelled” of people are coming back, so there’s really no consequences at all for rich powerful men.
Yeah, when I was saying some of the ones who actually are being held accountable it's folks in my mind like Weinstein and Cosby and R. Kelly and Spacey but even some of them seem to catch breaks here and there that make life and their punishment a bit easier for them.
But yeah, Louis CK is still releasing paid content and selling out venues (though maybe not AS BIG as he used to). Chris D'Elia just a couple days ago returned to comedy on stage at a club and Jen Kirkman (who I have other issues with but whatever) was blowingi it up on social media how it puts women comics in a weird spot. Marilyn Manson is still working with big names and likely going to release stuff.
I just wish rich and famous people were sometimes treated more like us "normal" folk and had the same consequences applied to them.

Normal folks don't generally have their every misdeed splattered all over the internet.
If you used the N word some of your friends and coworkers would shame you for it. You might even lose your job. But you'd get another one because nobody would know. There definitely can be bigger consequences for the famous than us commoners. Some come back from it. Some just bugger off and continue to be rich out of the spotlight.
There were no better times. Just lower information times.
I’m like literally talking about 7 years ago
Still literally lower information times. The same things were happening, we just didn't hear as much about it. Hell, a lot of the shit people are facing consequences for now are for things that they did back then.

Just because it's relevant to the Morgan guy who said N***** like it was a free pass and now is still getting paid a shit load.... remember some of us who had white friends through out the n-word at a party in 2017 like it was kosher. that was 5 years ago. We ALL think this woke shit went further than it practically did.

Things got lost in communication. I am saying I miss that sweet spot of reproductive rights, gay rights, and trans people weren’t such a gigantic target of legislation like they are today. Trans women were still being killed, people were refusing to make cakes, etc, but it wasn’t so fucking aggressively awful every day.
Even the most “cancelled” of people are coming back, so there’s really no consequences at all for rich powerful men.
But for gay teachers? Sure let’s fire them. Women who get abortions? Throw them in jail after crossing state lines to nab them.
I miss the better times.
I was watching a lawyer talk about this the other day and they said it would be totally illegal to keep people from getting an abortion in another state

Oh, I agree with that. It's shocking how much we have backslid as a society.

It’s not shocking really. Like I’ve said before democrats try to give more people rights. Republicans try to take them away. It’s an endless cycle.

i guess one definition of cancellation is people are broadly shunned by the industry they used to be in. under that definition Weinstein and Cosby were clearly cancelled. Weinstein won't ever produce another Hollywood movie, Cosby won't ever be doing a residency in Las Vegas or anything again.
Louis lost his legacy. He was a widely beloved figure and will never be beloved like that again. He had access to all kinds of talented people with which he could execute his pet projects, like that weird TV show he did I never watched. But he can still make money because there are less barriers for a standup to do their work. Sure a comedy club has to put them up, but it's not like you need a ton of investment from outside parties like you do when you are making a movie. People can still go see him if they want, and he will still make a probably pretty decent living, just substantially less than he was able to before. Is that cancellation? It's not Weinstein-level cancellation, but there is definitely a shunning there that has had a significant impact on his career.
morgan wallen is not cancelled, it appears his career is bigger than ever. maybe he lost his chance to ever be a beloved artist amongst a certain small cohort of progressive country music lovers, but how big is that audience really?
travis scott is not cancelled. the astroworld tragedy was terrible, but it wasn't even that long ago and it makes perfect sense for him to have not worked in the wake of it. i went all around the spectrum pointing fingers about this, but ultimately i believe the fault lies with LN or whoever was responsible for logistical planning of the festival. sure scott created a culture of raging and lawlessness, but I start to feel icky and right-wingy when i'm pointing to someone's "culture" as the reason for an individual's shortcomings or in this case a tragedy. i don't know maybe that's a cop out. for the record i like travis scott's music. i'm not a die hard fan but i loved the high energy vibe he brought to his music and shows, so i might have various biases there that make me go easy on travis.
i continued to be fascinated by this issue of online communities and cancellations or dart throwing or whatever you want to call it. i don't think it's nothing but i also don't think it's the end of the world. i find myself in the middleish ground somewhere, occasionally tipping over to one side or the other, trying to evaluate each claim of cancellation on it's own.
i can say i'm less interested in celebrity cancellations and more interested in regular people cancellations, i.e. someone says something dumb and an online mob demands they are fired and so their employer just fires them because it's the easiest thing to do, not because they think it's the right thing to do. but even those can be complicated! the now classic david shor situation, where he said riots are bad for democrats so he was fired, but then he started his own company and is super successful and has more exposure than never. shit gets weird when "cancellation" leads to more exposure and thus more opportunities. then again i don't think david shor is walking around full of grievances about being cancelled, he just continues to grind out doing what he does.
anyway sorry for all the rambling, hopefully something about this post makes sense to someone.

Kevin Spacey is in a new Historical Drama as a major role.
