Ultimately I believe in restorative justice. There’s no benefit to cancelling someone without accountability & reconstruction. If we want the world to be a better place, that means seeing someone face the consequences of their actions AND accepting any and all proportional amends.
I have yet to see it in most cancellation cases, but maybe someone else can remember a time where someone came back in the RIGHT way from making horrible choices.

Oh YUP that’s the one!! Also Harmon has grown a lot in terms of how his art reveals his feelings towards women. And Megan is awesome - we’re a big Mythic Quest house and I love the Sunny podcast
I always thought it was pretty gross the way whenever someone gets cancelled all the people who never liked them for reasons completely unrelated to why they got cancelled get real chuffed about it.
I never liked him because it was obvious he was a bad person. He’s a total asshole. I never got into his music because of it.
I was a huge Kayne fan prior to him going MAGA. I was finished with him when he said " slavery was a choice" It also didn't help that everything he released after TLOP has been absolute trash.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

People have really covered this guy's ass for a long time
couple bits for people who didn't click through, kanye initially wanted to name the "Ye" album "Hitler".
also shout out to Van Lathan:
Van Lathan Jr., a former TMZ employee, who confronted West during his 2018 interview at their offices in which West said slavery “sounds like a choice,” recently claimed on a podcast that West also made antisemitic comments during their conversation that the outlet did not release publicly. That’s why Lathan said his current comments didn’t surprise him.
“I already heard him say that stuff before at TMZ,” Lathan said during an episode of the “Higher Learning” podcast earlier this month. “I mean, I was taken aback because that type of antisemitic talk is disgusting. It’s like, I’m taken aback any time anyone does that, right? But as far as [West], I knew that that was in him because when he came to TMZ, he said that stuff and they took it out of the interview. … He said something like, ‘I love Hitler, I love Nazis.’ Something to that effect when he was there. And they took it out of the interview for whatever reason. It wasn’t my decision.”

Obviously he’s gone on a terrible spiral and sucks now but Kanye used to be based and it makes sense that a bunch of lame people are the ones saying he always sucked.

while i'm sure many non-kanye fans have led happy and fulfilling lives, i genuinely feel bad they never had the experience of listening to "New Slaves" for the first time with kanye-biased ears. song gave me goddamn heart palpitations.
i won't even lie, i loved him for sure. i saw him on the yeezus tour and i was into that he did weird shit like wear different masks the whole time or add in performance "art" to his show. there's not many people incorporating those things. his somewhat quirky behavior compared to other celebs was a little forgivable b/c it mostly awkward or annoying. but it comes down to the fact that there are many talented people out there who deserve my support now over him, so it's pretty easy to move on.

The journey from that song to White Lives Matter has been very weird and sad.

honestly im really fucking disappointed to see so many people on this site still going to arcade fire shows and still buying tickets for the neon bible show. its disgusting and its why pieces of shit like win can still remain relevant and not face any consequences. also justifying buying tickets as a last goodbye is no exception. supporting rapists and abusers is unacceptable no matter the context.

I don't think it's been very well publicized. My 25 yo brother in law was taking about how cheap tix were for their DC show. He had heard nothing about it. (And he's usually very pop culturally aware.)

thats very fair but i was moreso referring to the ones buying tix who are fully aware of the allegations

I agree with you but emotional and nostalgic attachment to art can be strong. Even though I have moved on from AF and had no intention of ever buying a ticket I definitely felt a pang of nostalgia when I saw the show announcement this morning.

I mean....I guess credit to him for showing up to his kid's game and also just walking away from the incident. Figured he'd blow it up more but maybe realizes in public at your kid's event isn't the right time.
Genuinely curious as to whether they were arguing about his recent shit (like if she's Jewish or something?) or if it's something completely unrelated to that and is like arguing parents about their kids fouling the other one or being mean or some junk lol
