There are just so many other comics who didn't force women into unwanted sexual situations and then ruin their careers. Or mock Parkland survivors and trans people on their comeback tour.
when I saw Louis, he had some very positive things to say about nb’s and trans people. Don’t remember if it made it to the special.
Regarding the Parkland thing, I don’t remember the exact bit but that was a surprise appearance were people weren’t meant to record the show. It was his first show in front of people in years, some stuff isn’t gonna come across well and some material is just gonna suck. Being a comedian isn’t like being a musician where you just play the songs. It’s hard to gauge the reaction you’re gonna get and hard to practice getting the words out right.
It takes zero time to Google the Parkland context. He did it at a paid headlining show.

I was a huge Louis fan from like pre-Shameless days and Lucky Louie and Yough Crowd and shit and he was my favorite comic ever really early in my life and I wanted to be a comedian. I wanted to be Louis CK, essentially. I used to adore the guy. I follow comedy and that industry pretty closely. In my view he never made right.

And Killing Em Softly is probably the funniest stand up special of all time gor me and I might throw it on YouTube sometime but I'm never giving Chappelle a dime of my money.

love the condescending tone, really adds a lot
doesn’t really take away from my point. Was one of his first shows back.

yeah Chappelle is just straight up unfunny now too. Controversy aside, he just whines on stage now.

Seems to be. I thought one of the Netflix specials, maybe the first one, was good. The next one I didn't like.
I also thought 2017 was very unfunny paint-by-numbers shit from CK when I saw that. But also I had heard rumors about his actions for awhile. First from a Gawker blind item that seemed to suggest he had done this to one of the members of Garfunkel and Oates iirc, dont remember when that was, and then in 2014 my friend told me a story about someone he worked with that many of yall would know who said that he was aggressive in hitting on her in front of her partner. Anyway, by 2017 maybe I'd just really internalized that he was probably a shithead.

You also said he hadn't performed live in years, which isn't true, either. The Comedy Cellar appearance happened 9-10 months after the allegations broke, it's one of the major reasons people had an issue with it. I personally don't think that's a long enough break to excuse some truly terrible material on the basis of him being out of practice.
Not sure how I'm the asshole for suggesting we shouldn't be supporting Louis CK of all people.

Cancelled people are never cancelled for long if they're a guy and not in jail. How it is.
jesse lacey is the only example i can think of whos actually been shitcanned forever, which is rightfully so but its gross to see people just as bad as him or worse mount comebacks
Ryan Adams seems to have pretty effectively canceled.

He just released an album and has a tour starting next week. Then after December goes overseas to tour. That's "canceled"?

He’s playing ACL live venue in austin and had a bunch of guys defending him in their ticket sales posts.
Shrug. He might still have a career but he certainly seems to have fallen off a cliff since he was canceled. Maybe he's just fallen off my radar, though.

He took a step back and has been inactive for a while. But it seems (like some others) he's on his return tour and is dipping his toes into being back to normal stuff. We'll see how the tour and everything goes.

I don’t know that I’d say he’s been fully canceled, but there are an awful lot of floor seats still available for Ryan Adams’s show here in town in a couple weeks, which wouldn’t have been the case previously.
Upcoming Shows: 11/8 - Goose @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 11/13 - Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w/ The Wolfpack & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall 2/14 - Alan Walker @ The Fillmore Detroit 4/15 - Ben Folds w/ The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall
Anybody who is defending Ryan Adams hasn’t been paying attention to his behavior since the Whiskeytown days. I once saw him punch his guitarist and ride his guitar across the stage like a skateboard. Then there was the time I stood out front of a theater in Charlottesville and had a smoke with him and the band. I was told by the ticket taker the show was cancelled not too long after because, and I’m not making this up, he was stuck in NYC because of a “flight change”.
Ryan Adams is/was/always will be a ducking asshole.
If it makes you feel any better, one of my friends ran into him and Parker Posey at a record shop in NYC. She apparently gushed over Parker and when introduced to RDA, she informed him she had no clue who he was but cowboy boots were so last year.
My view on Adams is this: he's very talented and very troubled.
Not going to lie, I still listen to his music sometimes. Strangers Almanac is a favorite. But I don't plan on buying any of the new albums or intend to see him live.

Sure. But the point is why do I feel like I need to insert myself into a fringe argument amplified by media? Specifically conservative media that has sucked up black conservatives to platform the viewpoints.

You don't
1. He quit on Boston and we don't like him for it 2. He's a jackass, and him being black doesn't have anything to do with him being a jackass
