I’m going to call bullshit. She wasn’t firing her dancers when they got fat, because all of her dancers on stage were fat. Am I going to be canceled for saying that?
I watched the show, and like most dance things it was very obvious that some of the girls were not as good of dancers as others and absolutely their size had something to do with it. like even with all the positivity, calling them Big Girls, they're still professional dancers and it's going to affect things. there's probably a nuanced way to give warning, or let someone go for gaining weight, and not just telling people you get fired if you get fat, but there are underlying reasons for that.
if Beyonce fired a dancer for being too heavy people would probably think she's a dick but they'd get over it and talk about how big the production is and how they need dancers to be super fit, but with the branding Lizzo has it just looks worse.
Ok but wtf does this even mean? How can you be too fat to dance correctly? What is the “correct” way to dance? That’s the point. MOST people don’t dance like pop singers’ stereotypical dancers so why shouldn’t we see that reflected at a concert?
Also a whole bunch of men on here need to do some research on what body positivity actually means. It doesn’t have anything to do with celebrating being fat but it does have everything to do with “your body is positive, bc it is literally the thing making you alive”.

its a dance competition show. where women competed with each other to be a dancer on her squad. things like flexibility, stamina, quickness, injury are all things affected by weight (I would know!) and there is probably a tipping point.
they're professional athletes essentially, and if you can't hang athletically you are putting yourself in a position to lose your job or get hurt. it gets reported on with men all the time, pretty publicly (players show up to camp overweight, guys who are injured gain weight).
its generally something that's forgiven/accepted if that person is doing well, but once they start doing poorly it becomes a question of are you going to lose the weight or are you going to keep not being able to perform?
obviously all sexual harassment stuff, and not paying your staff is bad. if she's just taking out anger on them and saying your fat bye that's bad. but if the dancers are getting fired because they don't have the stamina, etc. and are asked to lose weight and don't, that's sort of on them.

I don’t understand that definition of body positivity.

literally don't hate yourself because of how you look or how much you weigh.

this is a question for lizzo or the choreographer, not me. they are paid to dance a specific way.
I'm just saying, if there's say 3 dancers that are each 250 pounds, and all of them can do the splits. if dancer A and B get down and up in half the time as C, its possible the issue is that C could cut that time by losing weight. or by practicing or getting stronger, etc. but little things like that add up in choreo.
yes people want to see more normal bodied dancers, and there aren't many in mainstream entertainment, because its a physically demanding job, and there are trade offs between weight and performance. yes a big person has the potential to do the same exact stuff but its harder. its easier for someone who is 7 feet tall to dunk, it's easier for someone who has crazy long arms to swim, its easier for someone to do ballet if they are 100 pounds because there is less force on toes, etc. its just going to be harder for someone who is by all standards obese, to do hours and hours of physical labor vs someone who is more physically fit.

Or you can make the dance moves appropriate for the person doing them? This isn’t that hard of a concept.
And the ONLY thing that would make someone she hired in the first place completely unable to do dance moves they could a couple of months ago when the tour started, would be a major disability happening and that’s another story.

All the Lizzo news shows is that people love seeing a woman fail, a black woman fail, and especially a fat black woman fail. If this lawsuit was against Chris Brown (who we all know is also a domestic abuser!!) no one would give two shits. They'd be like "well that's the business". I have a friend who's a former rockette who's had WAY worse.
Let's blame the system, but the gleeful downfall of a fat black woman is horrific to watch.

lol ok idk man it's probably pretty rare for a high level choreographer to want to dumb down their stuff because a couple of people can't hang. how many elite chefs change their menu because one cook can't chop as fast as the rest? what if power lines were lower because it's harder for an overweight person to climb to fix them?
some things are just limited it's not fat shaming, or discriminating.
there is a large difference in perception to saying "you're fat if you don't fix it your fired" and talking to them about diet, etc. but in the end it's a business trying to put on high level entertainment in a world where most of the employees are super fit, its not a non profit feel good dance crew, and I think that Lizzos branding makes it sort of feel like that, and thats why it's so shocking that it would happen.

i mean i've seen more comments about her weight than her actual actions. which is crazy, considering sexual assault is on the table. criticize the actions, definitely! but the social media comments making fun of her weight are missing the point.

idk people love watching Chris Brown fall apart and there's plenty of dialogue around how western media loves watching successful black men fail and that's sort of why people are still fans of OJ and Michael etc.

well yeah, everyone already knows Chris Brown is a piece of shit so it wouldn't be shocking at all.
It seems like people around here are more willing to look the other way because of who Lizzo is fat/black/woman.

because honestly the sex stuff on paper makes so much more sense to me? a big part of her image is just raw sexuality in your face (which is not a common thing for larger people). posting strip club videos in the past, showing up to laker court side in a thong, nude album covers, saying stuff like we went to the banana strip club in interviews.
but her firing people because of weight is more shocking because it feels like the opposite of her image. and it also just is more of a discussion, whereas sexual harassment/assault is pretty cut and dry.

i see what you're saying. similar level of fascination like finding out a wife guy has been cheating on his wife the whole time.

Honestly, this makes so much sense to me. Better than I could have explained it

yeah, for sure. like Cosby being a sex pest is a woah wtf because his image is just not that. the r Kelly's, the Manson's where you kind of look back like yeah probably should've seen that coming.

STOP EQUATING BEING FAT WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. JFC
