I never watch any of those. I started watching because of Maynard and then I'd watch other musicians or comedians and crazy people like Mike Tyson, etc. Like I said I don't remember anything like these accusations, so it must obviously be happening on the ones I don't watch.
Yeah, I used to mostly focus on comedians or someone interesting. I avoided most MMA and political guests when they would come on.
I’m glad y’all are having this conversation because I’m in the same boat. I’ve watched many of his podcasts, but I specifically only watch guests I’m interested in already: musicians, certain comedians/celebrities, and people like Elon Musk. And in what I’ve seen, he never said much that stood out as controversial.
It makes me sad that he has this huge platform and is saying the shit he is saying. But I also think if you take someone with zero journalistic boundaries, someone who talks a lot about his distaste for cancel culture, someone who is a huge libertarian, and have him get drunk and high with people with strong opinions and have 3 hour stream of consciousness conversations - you’ll have snippets of controversy to put together in a video.
HOWEVER - that old clip of Planet of the Apes is inexcusable. And without context behind him saying that word so many times, it seems inexcusable too. He’s probably the kind of person who if in the context of talking about people using the word will just say it instead of saying “n word” because he thinks his intent isn’t malicious. Similarly to how Louis CK used to do in his standup often and seem to get away with it.
Took me a minute earlier today to figure out who everyone was parodying with that opening line but apparently it was Whitney Cummings defending Joe Rogan? Saw two tweets from her that seemed silly after seeing multiple parodies of it.
No idea if this is real at all or not but I enjoy Chris's tweets
This is delightful because it's clear this happened at a Gary Gulman show, and I trust Chris Flemming's take on it. What's he got to lose? I know enough comedians who've been through the "I shouldn't do this" moment ha ha
"Comedians, when they get really good, and nowadays they don’t even have to get good, reach a point where they feel they should be philosophers. I’ve heard it said even that the modern-day philosophers are comedians. I read modern-day philosophers! I’m sure they’re insulted when they’re compared to people who work in smoky nightclubs and hit on waitresses for a living." -norm macdonald

Kanye threatens to not play Coachella if Billie Eilish doesn't apologize for a comment she made at one of her shows (apparently referencing Travis Scott incident)
Lame. Remind me....does Kanye complain about "cancel culture"?
I mean, the quotes I saw never really even came close to mentioning Scott or Astroworld unless the sentiment 'I'll pause my show to make sure my fans are safe' is insulting to him? Do they have prior beef or is there a quote that a reasonable person would take as a dig on Travis Scott?

I guess you can’t take care of someone in the audience without insulting him. Performers have to neglect the audience in solidarity.

saying that you specifically do implies others don't, and there's an obvious line to who that represents right now
again fine w her taking shots but it was definitely a shot

So is it only a shot now? Like, Pearl Jam wasn't retroactively insulting Travis Scott when they stopped a show I was at in 1994 to help some people get pulled over the rail?

It's all stupid press for ye to promote his new single
But no, Pearl Jam in 94 doing that is not a shot. Especially given that has happened at a pearl jam show.
And it could very well not be a "shot" but definitely a nod to it happening. like, there's some pretty obvious context there. I don't care if she apologizes or not because again, it's all stuff to promote Ye's new single

I think this probably made performers more aware of what’s going on in the crowd. And that’s a good thing.

no but if anyone did it in 2000 they were probably taking shots at pearl jam

While I have been a big fan of his comedy for a while this just does not look good at all for Horatio Sanz. The chat logs from AIM definitely paint him as someone grooming girls.
The initial accusations that came out sounded gross to begin with (grooming or carrying on a relationship with an underage fan) but these new revelations paint a worse picture about SNL in general and even Jimmy Fallon (since he was apparently present for a lot).
Circling back for a sec, because who doesn't love one of the Gallaghers talking shit.
On the question of whether co-writing counts as real songwriting, Liam had this to say:
Says who? All them fucking Gorilla albums are co-writes, aren’t they? I get it. Noel bangs on about it as well: “I’m more important than you because I write my fucking songs.”…
Well, he won’t be saying that again in a hurry, though, will he? Did he not get ran out of fucking town by the Swifters? I think [Taylor’s] fucking cool, man. She does write her songs, and I’m sure she’s co-wrote with people.
