I saw a tiktok recently of a trans man saying all of this anti trans hysteria from JK Rowling is really just showcasing that’s she’s likely a closeted trans man, a la many closeted gay Republicans who man horrible anti gay laws. The tiktoker had some good receipts.

I hate when people act like homophobes are just closeted self hating men.
yup, extremely harmful take. sometimes people are just bad people, to say they act like they do because theyre closeted adds an additional stigma to those who are yet to come out for their own reasons. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRuouEb4/
Nick Cave: I don't think we can separate the art from artist, nor should we
also Nick Cave: anyway, here's my Art Exhibition with Brad Pitt
“I don't think we can separate the art from the artist, nor should we need to,” Cave begins. “I think we can look at a piece of art as the transformed or redeemed aspect of an artist, and marvel at the miraculous journey that the work of art has taken to arrive at the better part of the artist's nature. Perhaps beauty can be measured by the distance it has travelled to come into being,”
“That bad people make good art is a cause for hope. To be human is to transgress, of that we can be sure, yet we all have the opportunity for redemption, to rise above the more lamentable parts of our nature, to do good in spite of ourselves, to make beauty from the unbeautiful, and to have the courage to present our better selves to the world.”
I get conflicted about this stuff all the time. Part of me thinks ignorance is bliss and I’d prefer to just enjoy life and art without being weighed down by the artist’s flaws/failures. Another part of me is perversely interested in finding out dirt on celebrities because it’s interesting.
And a small part of me continues to allow these cancel moments to have an effect on who or what I choose to include in my life. But I find myself caring less and less about this stuff as time goes by.
