Hey we've got Rock on the Range, er Sonic Temple, LOL.
We have a lot of little festivals throughout the warm season at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park near me. That tends to consist mainly of locals getting absolutely shit-faced drunk (in a bad way) and jumping into the quarry, but there are some fun bands including nationally-known acts sometimes, too. Nice venue and scenery but not normally my scene musically.
Oh yeah, and the opiates and the hippy stuff, but mainly just a liver-damaging amount of booze. I wish Nelsonville was every month, and closer to me, but I'll take what I can get sometimes (pass on the opiates).
The majority of those NLQP festivals consist of jam bands & tribute acts. Once in a while they get a bigger name like Willie Nelson. It would be a cool location for a Nelsonville type festival, but they seem to be stuck on the hippy-dippy jammy-jams.

Yeah, that's exactly why I don't go much even though I'm like 30 minutes away and the park is neat. No one really needs to see a Sublime tribute band (Badfish) multiple times every year, but some people here think they're the greatest thing ever. I'd love to see a NMF-type lineup there, or something like Melted - that would be a blast.

so if im in Ohio looking for a good time, head to the quarry?
Wow, we somehow made that sound like a good idea? If you're a dirty wook with white kid dreadlocks and want to get mega blackout wasted and listen to lame jam bands playing covers, go for it.
It's best to go during the week actually when nothing is going on, and to swim and just enjoy the peace and scenery.

Yea, it’s honestly a beautiful place. It’s a shame that the venue doesn’t get better acts. But Summerdance was fun.
And what is with that one weird outhouse with the two toilets next to each other? Still to this day have no idea what the point of that is. 😂😂

Hey uv. What jam bands do you consider lame? I couldn’t really think of any though I’m not a big fan of the ska side stuff like Leftover Salmon. Was it just some weak local shit?

I don't want to crap all over a good thread too much, but yeah, NLQP gets a bunch of cover/tribute bands and local'ish bands that really aren't my cup of tea. You can check nlqp.com if you really want to see.
Their biggest events are often Badfish (Sublime cover band, once or twice a year), Grateful Fest (various capable bands playing a lot of Dead), Classic Fest (assorted cover bands), etc. Cleveland-based Tropidelic play there annually or so. This year Slightly Stoopid and Lotus were there too, I think, and no one else I remember specifically.
Melted had a MUCH better slate in one day in February than NLQP had all season which is sad for such a neat outdoor venue with decent camping and affordable prices. Don't get me wrong, some people love it and it can be fun, but there's rarely anyone there I want to see or anyone doing anything new. Now that I think about it, it makes sense that so many people at the festivals there seem more focused on drinking their faces off than enjoying the music. I'd love to see them book more up and coming rock acts.

Summerdance is the only one I would've considered (Cut Chemist, Moon Hooch, Chalk Dinosaur & Start Making Sense), but that place is not my scene.

I see the price goes up on Jan 13th.
I thought there would be 9 bands per day like last year. I guess they're going with 7, unless they add a few local bands later.
Nelsonville - I noticed in their last e-mail they mentioned 40+ bands. They used to say 60+ bands (I think I even remember 65+). If they're shrinking the festival down, I hope they get some bigger mid/upper-tier acts, especially since the price went up $20. Also, if they do end up with under 50 bands, does the festival really need to be 4 days? Heck, last year I ended up seeing multiple bands 2-3 times. I know they've always had bands play multiple days, but it seemed like there were more than usual last year.

Last year only have 48 acts not counting the high school bands; it definitely feels like this could be a problem for NMF going forward. If the lineup isn't up to snuff this could be the first year I skip since 2014, especially given that I already have tickets to Homecoming and Bellwether. Guess we'll find out in 2 weeks or so.

I guess I forgot there were only 48 bands last year. That explains why I saw multiple bands 2-3 times. Honestly, I could do without Sun. I've skipped it before (I skipped Sun. in 2014). Thurs was pretty weak last year too. I really only showed up for Bully. They could easily combine Thurs & Sun. I've gone every year since 2012 & I'm thinking about skipping it too. I'll see what they announce in 2 weeks.

I totally agree with what you guys are saying. I've gone 4 out of the last 5 years, leaving early each time and seeing very little on Sunday. Taking the same type of lineup and squeezing it into three days wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Seeing a band multiple times can be fun, but if we're only doing it because there's nothing else we want to see at either time slot, that's a problem.
I'd love to do both NMF and Roo again this year but I don't know. I could definitely find something different to do with that time and money and I'm skeptical about the lineups. Probably in for Melted regardless. I've done no 2020 research yet and need to see what other fests are going on and what lineups are looking like.
Another solid addition. Also I'm bummed that Caroline Rose's new Cleveland/Columbus dates conflict with this, but if I end up doing Melted I may hit up Pittsburgh the day before
I don't feel like making the NMF thread yet, but here's some acts I'm really hoping crossover from Roo: Brittany Howard, Vampire Weekend (tour dates work perfectly), Jason Isbell, Liz Cooper, Ezra Collective, McKaya McCraven, Nilufer Yanya, Mdou Moctar, Jupiter & Okwess, Femi Kuti

Nice add in Ohmme. I don't know them but preliminary research puts them right in my wheelhouse. They'd be a great fit for NMF.
Not a bad bunch you list there. I'd guess NMF will pull a couple of those, at least. I'm really hoping the lineup is solid because Bonnaroo looks pretty underwhelming. Really wanted to go again but RTJ, Primus, Lana Del Rey and Femi Kuti are the only big ones for me. I'm getting too old to do back-to-back weekends, mainly because of the driving and time constraints on either end. The anticipation is all for Melted, for now.

Not trying to steal anyone's (Bikemail) announcement glee, but I've been checking regularly for updates because I'm excited. With this announcement I'm even more excited - because I've found some time to go grab a bite to eat, or do something that doesn't consist of listening to noise, or whatever.
Control Top!!! They were amazing when I saw them open up for Titus Andronicus last fall. Thanks for posting the announcement yesterday F me, I quit America, I've been at a conference and didn't have my laptop on hand for most of the day.
With Kelley Deal? I'm not seeing that, but I'm down either way, for sure.
Looks like they edited their posts to remove it. Hopefully it's still on and they're just keeping it under wraps
I saw hashtags at the bottom of the Proto post for Kelley Deal & The Breeders on Instagram. I wasn't sure what they meant. Now they're gone. Maybe they're gonna announce Kelley's band R. Ring tomorrow?
They're still going! I found a tweet from the other week that confirmed there's still 1 more band TBA tomorrow too
I was hoping they were gonna announce more than 4 additional bands & one "experimental artist". It looks like there will be 8 acts per day. I suppose they could still add 2 local bands so the totals come to 9 per day like last year.

Either way, that's not bad, and the lineup we've seen is solid. I was sort of expecting each day to be a little shorter/thinner than last year's one-day affair, but if they essentially double the slate that's cool. I don't know many Columbus bands but I wouldn't mind seeing Dana again.
This has me wondering what the schedule will be like. Eventbrite lists a 4pm start time. Do you guys think we can count on that? Day one being a Friday complicates things a bit, and I'd prefer to be there at the beginning but I need to figure out the driving and Airbnb check in and whatnot. I was thinking I could work a short day but maybe it'll be best to just take it off, since it's a 2+ hour drive.
