How many “big headliners” do they normally book? Sir Elton John has some dates open around this time. He’s playing Louisville April 25 and Detroit May 1st.

Generally 3 per day. You have a legacy type act, a more modern or jam act and an R&B/Soul/Rap act to close every day (plus a hl blues and hl jazz act).
Oysterhead has launched Instagram and Twitter Accounts. The social media site accounts were launched this morning with the words, "When all else has been done and said"
They last performed at 2006 Bonnaroo, but were an O.G. Jazz Fest act from 2000.
Pretty f'n cool if Jazz Fest can get them out of hibernation.

Umphrey's McGee will be playing 2 nights at Fillmore first weekend - April 24th and April 25th. I'm 90% sure I'll be at that depending on what else is going on that weekend. Fillmore allows you to reasonably walk to a 2am show after you see what you saw there due to where it's located. It's like 8 blocks to Republic, Howlin' Wolf, Joy and Saenger. That's less than I usually walk late nights.
Also CEG via The Bowery/NOLAFUNK has released its initial lineup with probably 12 more announcements to go for them.
4/30 - Marcus King Band plus Billy Strings 5/01 - Billy Strings plus Marcus King Band 5/02 - Marcus King Band with Special Guest
All at the Civic.
Umphrey's already is making me happy about Jazz Fest Nights.
To be fair, Byrne solo was a bunch of Talking Heads songs....I just don't see a reunion happening
I saw him twice and watched Coachella and I only remember 3 or possibly 4 Heads songs this past tour. It was a lot of different era stuff, but I’d have to go back and look at the JF and ACL setlists which I think were close to the same. But Jerry Harrison and Adrien Belew are touring with Turkuaz doing Remain in Light. I’d be down to see that either at the festival or at a night show, and if for some reason I’m conflicted out or it’s too expensive, I’ll just watch a live stream. Otherwise I don’t know the post band politics between everyone except that Byrne hasn’t wanted to do it. There are enough other singers or collaborators who could sing all the parts if everyone else or some of Tina Weymouth or Chris Frantz plus say Jerry and it’s good enough for me. Lotus pulled it off. Local band Gravity A did some great Head sets and that’s just some shit I’ve seen. Maybe it’s nothing or maybe they’ll be releasing some archival shit or whatever.
In other news thanks to Wombat at JFF Doom Flamingo is doing official UM afterparty on the 26th at Republic. Shit looking to fill my calendar already :/

I saw Byrne twice last year as well and it was amazing. In the two shows 8/21 and 9/21 songs were Talking Heads songs. I doubt the IG is anything since it seems to be put together by Harrison’s people and they manage most of that stuff normally. That Lotus show was great.
ACL was I Zimbra, Slippery People, This Must Be the Place, Once in a Lifetime, Road to Nowhere and Burning Down the House 6/13. Jazz Fest was 7/17 and had Blind and Born Under Punches. Shit that’s more than I thought at both but I don’t know all their shit as well as I probably should.
I haven't. They usually release on Tuesdays, and last year's lineup was announced on the 15th. So I'd bet the 14th if they're still going to release on a Tuesday around the same time frame.
Since Govball got Stevie Nicks I wonder if we’ll see a The Who | Stevie Nicks | ?
Jazz Fest Forum had someone claim they spoke to someone at CCMF who said for sure Neil Young was playing which hopefully would mean Crazy Horse who I last saw kicking ass at 2012 Voodoo and the band Neil said would be playing in 2020. So Who, Dead and Company, Neil, maybe Nicks or possibly the Mac since they said they’d make up for last year at some point? Idk.
jazzfest said: The Who, Dead and Co, Foo Fighters, Tedeschi Trucks, Avett Brothers, Lizzo, Wilco
Some of the main acts. I’d go to Foos, Dead & Co and The Who if accurate. Also said the lineup will be out Thursday (thought it was usually a Tuesday, bicbw)

I was really hoping to be able to pick just one weekend. But if we get all those acts plus Uncle Neil, I don’t see that happening...
Disco Biscuits are coming back. This fucks up my weekend 1 plans. I really wanted to go see Umphrey’s on their 2 night run but I may have to drive to Pensacola on Thursday to see them there and then come back home Friday morning to get shit going here. Hopefully this means we will also get a side project at 2am like Star Kitchen, Conspirator, or Spaga.
Edit Umphreys is Friday/Saturday and Biscuits are Sat/Sun so I should be okay. Tips had 2 St. Paul shows second weekend, 2 Galactics and OG Garage a Trois
First TDB side project announced was Tractorbeam which is all of the Disco Biscuits doing their all instrumental more EDM face. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, but TIPS2020 gets you a lot of the shows that aren't yet available. I got my 2. It's fucked that so many night shows are being announced way ahead of the lineup this year. It's going to take some massaging to figure out how to do full days at the festival, night shows and then overnight shows. As of now, this is what I'm doing:
1st Weekend Friday - Umphrey's McGee @ Fillmore; Tractorbeam @ Tipitina's 2am Saturday - Disco Biscuits @ The Civic; Doom Flamingo @ The Republic 2am Sunday - Disco Biscuits @ The Civic
2nd Weekend Friday - Saturday - Turkuaz w/ Adrian Belew & Jerry Harrison performs Remain in Light 40th Anniversary Sunday -
Lineup is out tomorrow around noon. I'll see how broke of an April I'm actually facing at that point.

I don't know how to hack private videos to make them viewable. This will be the lineup announcement video:
Who Dead & Company Stevie Nicks Foo Fighters Lizzo Lionel Richie The Lumineers Black Crowes Lenny Kravitz Revivalists Brandi Carlile Avett Brothers Erykah Badu Beach Boys Norah Jones John Prine Nicky Jam Wu Tang with Soul Rebels etc...
