NGL, if some of these april-may shows end up rescheduled for ACL sets, thats a disappointment for fans that actually wanted full sets rather than the shortened sets they will get at ACL. I've had 11 shows total being postponed/canceled, with The Strokes probably being the next one lol
To be fair, Dr. Escott did say "6 months to a year" - which seems intentional considering ACL is 6 months out. For the record, I don't think this or any other festival in 2020 is happening, but this article doesn't 100% rule it out.
Anybody thinking this is even happening this year?
No. And they’d typically announce next week. ACL and Bonnaroo probably should both come clean - but at least I haven’t bought my ACL ticket yet. Tennessee and Texas have state politicians who are eager to reopen (and even some who think there should be sacrifices to the economy). So maybe LN is waiting til the last minute on that piece of a percent chance a miracle happens. I don’t see it though.
It’s a shame because I went two days each of the last 3 years and wanted a shot to get to 4 in a row ACL’s. There’s always enough quality sets to make the October run to Austin. But fuck. Even if they did have it, I don’t know if I would go. I guess if I had antibodies and they determined that to have me temporarily immune, I’d consider it. I already missed Buku and would have started Jazz Fest tomorrow night with UM in P’cola. Voodoo is gone and so even though ACL might be my last hope to attend a festival I want to go to this year, I don’t even know if I could go.

The organizers were probably (maybe still are, when the deaths in those states ramp back up) hoping for the state or local governments to do what is right, to take it upon themselves and cancel.
But no, there will be no ACL or Bonnaroo this year. Even if they were held, attendance would be shit.
It's possible the city gets desperate, probably were hoping this would offset losses from SXSW, but the city isn't as red as the state so idk.
Plus being the only thing running wouldn't work either because most acts would need to not be doing a one off. So if other things are cancelled still I bet it wouldn't matter.
You might be right Pablo. Mayor Cantrell here said no dice to 2020 festivals, and Live Nation cancelled Voodoo. So you had local leadership saying fuck shit. Things are more fucked up here than Austin, but perhaps they are waiting for local officials to make the announcement. Idk. I’m bugging a little inside. It’s April. That means going until 4/5am so many nights and the NBA playoffs. I’m almost thinking I’m going to have to go berserk in 2021. <— I just realized I never learned how to spell berserk. Pwnd.

Absolutely nothing is happening this year. The sooner these festivals stop dicking fans around with the baseless carrot of false hope that life will be back to normal by September / October, the sooner we can all move on with our lives. Massive non-essential gatherings like festivals were the first events to be cancelled, and they will be the absolute last events to return. At this rate, I seriously question if anything will happen in 2021, either. I wish I didn't have these doubts, but it's a bit naïve to call it a stretch. Pandemics don't just magically disappear at a given time of our convenience. Things aren't going to clear up in September so we can all get in one good festival before year's end.
And yeah, I get it, it sucks. Everyone misses their lives. People have had to cancel weddings, birthdays, graduations, holidays, time with loved ones, right down to little things like gym classes or Friday night drinks. As somebody who was supposed to be honeymooning in Europe in a month, nobody understands that disappointment more than I do. But no festival or sports match is worth more than someone's life.
A year or so is not that long... until then, just stay home with Netflix and snacks. Pick up a hobby, learn something creative, videochat with friends. And if you're really jonesing, stream a concert to your TV. Buy a mannequin, dress it in your smelliest laundry, and position it directly in front of you. Attach a speaker to the mannequin that plays a two-hour soliloquy of bad jokes and non-sequiturs. Then place the mannequin on an exercise ball, so that every once in a while it'll jostle you and spill a quarter of your $9 Bud Light. There... now it's the complete experience.

And it will still be four in a row if you go next year. The fact that life is cancelled in 2020 doesn't preclude you from going to four consecutive ACLs.
Saudi public investment fund purchased 5.7% of outstanding Live Nation shares at a cost of approximately $500,000,000. That injects capital into them and C3 and makes the fund the 3rd largest shareholder.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
