I'm a big fan, but yeah they absolutely wreck live. They always have great visuals. I think I've seen them four times, also. (3.5 if you consider that they got cut short at DFN) I was at Lolla 08, too! Had to skip Kanye on Glow in the Dark to see NIN. I'll still put on the AATCHB Live DVD from the Fragile tour every once in awhile.
Lolla '08 is what got me into music festivals. It sounds corny, but that festival changed my life. It totally opened me up to a ton of different genres and just an obsession with live music that I don't think will ever fade. Am a way bigger Kanye fan now than I was then... Also, now I have the itch to see NIN this summer.
That's awesome. I had a similar experience. Went as a high school graduation present with my then-gf and her college friends, mainly to see the headliners: Radiohead, Rage, NIN. The the next year Free Press Houston put on the first Summerfest here in Houston and I was like "oh cool, a festival in my hometown". Started going to that every year. That started small but eventually blew up to where they had headliners like Jack White and Vampire Weekend in 2014.
And then Roo 2014 took my festival obsession to another level entirely.

Yeah, it was between my junior and senior year of high school and my aunt took a group of us out because Radiohead and Rage were my favorite bands at the time. Pretty much went back to Lolla every year after that for almost a decade. Radiohead got me to Roo in 2012, and I agree Roo was just a whole other experience. Wish we had something even remotely like those in Pittsburgh, but it is what it is. That's cool, man. Miss those old lineups, but ACL this year, at least the top few lines, felt like a festival to be excited about. I really had a blast this yeae and took my soon-to-be fiance to her first three-day fest, and she loved it, so it was a special one.
Does this theory have legs? Or is it just a wish? I'd be all for it but they've been silent since Axl/DC ended.
I heard it will be only 15 North American Stadium shows with a Back in Black 40th angle. Brian/Rudd/Cliff/Steve Young/Angus lineup and supporting the new album.
That would chew up a lot of the ACL talent budget.
Feel like J Cole or Post will be the rap headliner, Kendrick maybe, but the others haven't happened yet and are probably due, Travis probably too soon to headline again. Lana seems like a lock.
Let me try not to disappoint y'all, but this seems way too expensive for it to be possible
AC/DC - Coldplay - Frank Ocean Tool - Lana - Panic! - VW
If it follows the format of last year, that would put Frank on Saturday which gets all of the teens in and out. Also puts Tool against him which can get all of the parents on the other side of the park. (Sorta like Bino/The Cure)
100% not both. The rage thing being early in the year, and starting off in Texas make me lean no. But afaik they haven't announced any Mexico City dates and that kind of makes it seem like they could do that and ACL around the same time Radiohead/Chili Peppers style (noting that Waters did MC in October and did not play ACL though)
This is pretty big. While I will not be surprised if Coachella is the only fest they do, I can also see them hitting the circuit and doing ACL.
Biggest reason why? If Rage really wanted to spread their words of political dissent, they'd spread it throughout the year. ACL is three and a half weeks before election day.
Tool doubling back through Texas and hitting Austin makes me feel like that ships probably sailed. January is far from October, and they would still have demand, so who knows.
Yeah those shows are going to be nine months apart and they’d probably play the second stage like the cure did anyway so it’s totally not out of the question
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Yeah, like I suggested a while ago, schedule them like The Cure. Put Tool on Honda and schedule them against whoever the big rapper/popstar is at the moment. (Posty, J. Cole, Drake?)
With Foo and Red Hot Chili Peppers confirmed for BC, do we see either of them at ACL? I think it's too soon for the Chili Peppers to be back but I would love to get Foo.
