He should’ve been, his fans just don’t give a shit and I wouldn’t be surprised if promoters just turn a blind eye to it.
he was more or less, he's been radio silent as his album stayed at number 1 for ten weeks in a row. Rumor has it he went to rehab and will be coming back with a brand new image. I bet a buddy of mine $50 that when he resurfaces he won't have the mullet anymore
also morgan wallen isn't even headlining country festivals on his own yet, doubt the first fest he ever headlines is ACL.
He is now. The one festival out of four he's not currently headlining was announced before his album dropped and blew up. That album was massive, being the best charting debut ever for a country album. He's huge now, especially among the younger crowd. I think he's undeniably a country headliner at this point, as much as I don't support the dude. As much as I'd rather see other country artists headline ACL, Wallen just seems like a no-brainer pick IMO.
a friend of mine told me this shortly after i posted that. might just be because i haven't really paid attention to country fests as of recently. however, the same friend brought up luke combs and lo and behold, he has october 2 to the 15 open with no austin date. george strait is a huge wish, but luke might be a more reasonable guess right now.

I could definitely see it being Combs. I’m wondering how the billing would work.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
yeah the possible billing is what's throwing me for a loop. i think luke combs is great and the dude obviously has pull, he sells out arenas in minutes. But he doesn't really scream ACL headliner to me.
I don't think it's out of the question morgan or luke would play but they're simply not big enough to get the HLer slot. they could sub/play the preheadliner Miller stage but that's probably the ceiling for acts like that

Both would headline

Both Garth and Strait fill the legacy act that ACL always includes so it feels like shooting two birds with one stone. You get your defacto #1 and your legacy act.
I feel like such a large multi-genre festival would want someone with crossover appeal, like Garth, George, or Dolly. Luke and, especially, Morgan don’t have that crossover appeal.

Luke and Morgan absolutely have cross-over appeal. Morgan probably doesn’t break those chart records with only country fans listening and neither get invited to SNL if they didn’t appeal to a wider audience. Hell, I’d say Luke and Morgan probably appeal to a wider audience than George largely due to their age.
But I'm thinking it's Eric Church, who was ranked #11 on ACL 2013, and was apparently supposed to headline Stagecoach in 2020. I can see him being #6 headliner on 2021 lineup.
If it's Luke Combs - And hell yeah Stevie Nicks! - my high expectations bingo card(s) off to a great start!!
oh shoot i forgot about Eric. my only thing with him though is that i don't think an ACL set will do him justice. his arena shows consistently pass 3 hours and and he does a thing where he plays an acoustic set, takes an intermission, then comes back and does a full band set. not saying i'd be opposed to eric, but he'd be much better suited at his own show.

I would think that Bonnaroo removing Morgan Wallen from their line up means that LN isnt gonna bother with him on either Lolla or ACL. Think that shouldve been a clear sign once that poster came out.
2019 roo/ACL had gambino/Cardi top lines crossover so would expect at least one, Tyler makes the most sense with the rest being very early
I think Lana makes a lot of sense too and Foos could serve as a Rage replacement. We could see more crossover than usual given the circumstances so I wouldn't be shocked if all three are there.
