Insane they went through it. If you estimate that 70% of attendees are from Texas, that is about 50k tests used up while Texas is already dealing with a surge. Good luck finding a test if you actually need one. The positivity rate for that week is suddenly going to look extremely good with that many people getting tested.

seems weird timing considering Levitations announcement of either/or though it's smaller and broken up imagine it's got to go through the same permit procedures
if you are someone that believes crowds of 100k people outdoors are dangerous regardless of vaccination status, then this isn't a waste of resources. I am not in that camp, but the discussion of requiring vaccine + test is pretty common on here, and this is a pretty similar concept from the Austin local govt
i just hope we get some official word from the festival by the end of the day. i have free testing here on campus so that isn’t an issue right now, this limbo phase is just fucking annoying.

it should be strictly vaccd imo, but 3 days out is meaningless if you get tested and then hit a bar
I think if 100k vaccinated people are willing to get together, all of the risk should be assumed, people will get breakthroughs, but a breakthrough is significantly less of a problem than unvaccd in general, so idk why the need for just having a negative test required for everyone

yeah we are in agreement. My understanding is that strictly vaxxed isn't an option in Texas though correct?

Hard disagree on this one. There's a pretty vast spectrum between "ironclad" and "meaningless." Yes, 3 days out isn't perfect, and some people who test negative 3 days out will contract the virus or develop COVID in the intervening 3 days. But some people who might not otherwise have known they're infected will find out they are much closer to the festival than they otherwise would have. Eliminating COVID on the grounds would be great, but it's likely not possible. In that case, it's about reducing the amount of COVID walking through the gates, and this'll contribute to that. Every little bit helps, and every single link broken in the chain of transmission is a win. The idea that it won't catch everything, so we shouldn't do it...I dunno. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
I mean, yeah, getting those tests will be inconvenient and expensive (as a NYer, it kind of boggles my mind that tests cost money and require hard-to-find appointments - I didn't realize how spoiled we were here), but so are music festivals.

meaningless was probably strong but if you get tested Wednesday, your status by Saturday or Sunday isn't guaranteed to be clean
so really it should just be vaccd only, full stop, but they can't so they're trying to play both

Yeah, honestly, IMO, all events should be vaccine + negative test only. I don't think we'll ever get that, though.
