Not sure where David Lee Roth would fit in, and missing some more. I can live with that though.
If you were trying to go for the ugliest day-by-day breakdown imaginable, you knocked it out of the park. I'm going for at least a day regardless, because of Rage and proximity, but I hope it shakes out better than that.

People keep using Spotify monthly listeners as if that fucking matters. Is that really where the music industry is at now?
Like, I guess it makes sense, but idk. I picture people streaming music on Spotify when they’re like, doing shit. Homework, housework, etc.
Just because people listen to something while going about their day doesn’t seem like it would be a good metric to estimate ticket sales on.
I feel like streaming listeners are more likely to be much more passive in their music consumption. They are largely not your festival demographic. Just because they’re tuning in doesn’t mean they’re going to be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to go see that person live.
Well, it's probably a combination of factors, but obviously high streaming counts make a difference. And I would argue that people do remember artists from tracks that they add to their own playlist, at a minimum.
It's nice that Firefly rewarded Halsey's twitter temper tantrum 2 years ago directed at Firefly with her first major headliner gig. Guess stomping your feet works. Gross.
She pointed out the 2018 only had a single female(SZA) in the top 20. A indisputable and legit criticism of the lineup.
2020 is an even gender split in the top 6, and 2 female acs in the top 3. Eilish/Halsey/Maggie and Rage/Khalid/Blink

There's a lot of people that are really digging this, and it's not because of Rage playing. It's pretty disturbing. Like it's 2020 and this is the type of music you want curated to you by a fest and are willing to pay up money for it. Yikes. Like I may be decently pompous in my tastes but I fail to see how anybody can't objectively just look at what's being offered here and offered elsewhere and just be like Firefly is garbage.
Y’all complain too much.. how is Seeing a band at the same venue more than once is such a problem with people when bands literally do that every single tour cycle. As if a band is only supposed to last for 2-3 years and disappear from the circuit. 6/6 headliners have never headlined this fest before, 2/6 have played the fest in the last 4 years( Halsey / Blink). A good mix of acts that haven’t played before and a hearty mix of firefly faves, this is right on par with previous years. We had Panic! | Posty | Travis last year. Rage alone easily beats all 3 combined. But if The music doesn’t specifically fit my taste it’s a terrible lineup. looking at the repeats alone you can look back in the past and remember the biggest crowd sizes, wildest atmospheres, and most hype about the set post fest. Why not want to recreate that magic?
I’ve been working at the same Venues on the DC area for almost 10 years. Bon Jovi has come though 3 times in that time, selling out the same venue each time, putting on almost the exact same show. Somehow everytime 20k people are losing their minds and having the time of their lives. Why not book it again for another 20k? It’s the same with Firefly. Cage, CHVRCHES, Grouplove, and Cold War Kids all drew huge crowds and had great shows and great moments that they hope to recreate.
Doesn’t matter if sir f’n Paul is on the lineup or The Killers. If you’ve seen an act once in the past people will find a reason to complain. This fest is in the back end of June in no where Delaware. People don’t even go to the races anymore. Be greatful any artist has showed up to this thing in the first place. Rage hasn’t played a show in almost a decade. Billie is in the middle of international touring similar to Arctic Monkeys years ago and somehow manage to play this fest. Though controversial Halsey isn’t headlining any other fest this year and here she is. Same with Khalid, Blink, and Maggie. That’s HUGE but will get no credit from this crowd.
In the end they are trying to sell 90k tickets. Not 90k to the same 90k each year.
So what happend to hip hop this festival season? Gov Ball got a lot less hip hop aswell as Boston Calling.
Less artists available maybe? also Rolling Loud probably has something to do with Gov Ball lacking but I think BC just didn't wanna go for more due to the headliners.

I'm not really familiar in which cities Rolling Loud organizes festivals but I can't see them taking clausules when RL takes place in Miami (that's the one you're referring to, right?) and the other three take place way up north.

Nah I'm specifically referencing the New York City one in this case.

Exclusive headliners that are trash doesn't make this HUGE whatsoever.

This fest only had 90-100k attendance once.. with all rock headliners, btw; bad ones too, excluding Sir Paul. The problem with booking pop artists is that 90% of their audience are casual fans, and/or the under 18 crowd (who have no personal income to spend on a fest).

Khalid is at Bottlerock as well, Maggie is at Bottlerock and Primavera Sound, and Blink is probably going to be at Bunbury. Additionally Halsey is doing a LN shed tour with big name openers and it is selling very eh as we speak. Dont know how huge that is. Ill give you Billie, that is a big one and Billie alone will drive a very high amount of sales.

think you are lying to yourself if you dont think this will do well financially. Its Hangout East, and Hangout sold out in record time.

We all complain too much, but I'll explain myself here. My initial disappointment started with the Tame Impala omission. Perhaps we were ahead of ourselves thinking they'd be there. It certainly lined up perfectly. I think mentally it's hard to recover from a letdown in that regard (headliner) because that's the first thing you look at, the first name(s) on the poster. Last year the first name on the poster was Panic at the Disco, and I think that really hurt Firefly. Overall, this is basically what you can expect from Firefly now, and I'll enjoy it. It's clear they are "Hangout East" for better or worse. The days of this fest being mostly rock oriented are gone. From there, I look and all the names I'd be excited to see have made runs through Firefly multiple if not 3 times. That's to be expected sure. I just wish there were more rock bands that hadn't been through Firefly yet, or not in a while. To give a list of what I was hoping for that have popped up on other lineups (mostly rock):
Foals (was a stretch once we knew they'd be overseas) Local Natives The Head and the Heart Manchester Orchestra Flogging Molly Jason Isbell Tenacious D King Gizzard Bon Iver Glass Animals (granted have been at firefly a couple times already) Primus St Paul and the Broken Bones Liam Gallagher (Can we please have either Gallagher brother come through here!!) Angels and Airwaves Andrew WK
From there, it'd be nice to have some refreshing electronic acts. Probably a stretch to expect Firefly to ever do that, but nevertheless it'd be nice.

hangout sells 45k tickets and the festival and is located on the beach. that site has sold itself for years since the lineups tanked. Camping in the woods isnt exactly a similar draw. if i had to guess from being in attendance for 2 days at FF last year i doubt it cracked 55 maybe 60 a day

Factor in location based income adjustments and I think that Firefly will still sell extremely well

Factor in the Mid-Atlantic market, where every tour hits 2-3 stops within a 100 mile radius, then this is still less likely to draw than Hang-Out Fest.

*grateful
and no, if you're perfectly fine accepting the crap that Red Frog is handing out, just because its not the most popular fest and you feel some loyalty towards it, thats fine. but we're still gonna complain when the entirety of the lineup has a very obvious drop in quality from year to year.

I get this argument but Rage is currently hitting no other market and every Billie show is something like $300 get in price for any non-single seat.
