Factor in the Mid-Atlantic market, where every tour hits 2-3 stops within a 100 mile radius, then this is still less likely to draw than Hang-Out Fest.
I get this argument but Rage is currently hitting no other market and every Billie show is something like $300 get in price for any non-single seat.
I agree that RATM and Billie will make this sell better than last year. Whether it'll be a complete sell-out though? Not sure on that one.
Unless I overlooked it I don't think Cage has played this fest since 2015 and Grouplove since 2016 .. this is in reference to a comment (maybe multiple) I saw about Cage, Grouplove and Cold War Kids playing this every year. So while that wasn't true this lineup isn't going to get me to Firefly for the first time. That run of Halsey, Khalid and Blink on the poster is terrible for me.

There are just certain bands that feel like they are at Firefly every year. Foster the People and DCFC are others. It's not unlike other festivals. The complaint moreso stems from the lack of other bands that are around that don't show up at Firefly any year and never have (like I alluded to in my previous post).

The problem is that it's the same acts in the same genre all the time. The indie/alt scene at Firefly feels super stale.

I have no doubt this will sell well.
They nailed #1 and #2. I mean they got the biggest reunion of the year and the hottest artist of the year who just cleaned up the grammy's.
#3-#5 aren't for me but they fit the demo perfect. Khalid sucks but kids love him. Blink sucks but kids still love them. Halsey sucks but kids love her.
I don't know the EDM on here but the glowstick people seem happy as balls so they did well there.
As someone who was at those Cold War Kids/Grouplove/AWOL shows 5 years ago...I agree I didn't know people still were interested in those acts. But it's almost like nostalgia for the Firefly brand. I find it sad but whatever I guess it has a reason.
The Lil DIcky's and David Lee Roths are inexplicable but i dont know maybe they're really cheap to get and are big names.
TLDR: Rage and Billie will sell the crap out of this thing and Firefly wants to be a big frat party not be critically acclaimed. If you are over 26 and groan at this lineup it's by design mostly
I have done Roo to Firefly back to back the past 6 years. This year will be my 17th Bonnaroo, 30 festivals (of all genres) the last 2 years alone, and Woodstock 99 was my first fest. I've seen most everyone live, so repeats are just reality for any of you who have been doing this for a few years.
To me this year is the worst overall Roo lineup yet. Only the second time I have considered not going. I just don't understand Tame as a headliner (seen multiple times). Nor Lizzo (though she is at least hugely positive on stage and a good performer). Tool (blew my mind in 2006, and I rarely like heavier rock), Seven Lions (has been best in fest multiple times, including a beloved former Tomorrowworld), and Bassnectar (y'all are crazy to make fun, always a fun time in like 15+ though I always might skip him if something else cool is going on) are really my only draws. Plenty other artists that are good like every other fest, but nothing exciting me. Maybe more will come up after I start doing research. I'm still going to go just because Roo is my favorite music festival and has delivered in every one of the 16 years. 2 years ago I also didn't really like the lineup (Muse year), yet it still reclaimed the title as best/favorite music festival.
To me this is also the best Firefly lineup in a few years (I have not liked the lineups on paper the past 2 or 3 years). But much like Roo, I always have an absolute blast. Dogfish Head brewery on site. All day silent disco. Good vibes. Rage is the only of the top 6 I really like. Billie has some great songs, but I didn't think she was much of a performer at her Roo set (the only I've seen). Halsey has her moments (ton of charisma at her Roo set, decent at Okeechobee). Great dance lineup though. Illenium has grown into a personal favorite (after first catching him back to back to back at Roo, Firefly, and Electric Forest a few years ago, "Good things Fall Apart" was my personal song of the year last year). Big Boi. Tove Lo. Lil Dicky. There are some fun times coming.
Firefly blows away Boston College. Hard to get to the other coast for Coachella. Anyone who goes to Firefly this year will have a blast!
Okeechobee has my lineup of the year so far, absolutely loving my playlist. Personal top 4 fest for me (beach, jungle, and fire stage enviornments are so good), every year has ruled if none of you are considering it yet.
So love how many festivals there are these days!!!
PS - for the record Burning Man is humanities greatest achievement in our evolution thus far (not an exaggeration). Finally made it last year after a decade of trying, just do it if you are drawn that way. Love Burn in Miami next week, we shall see if they capture any of the magic.

It probably won't be a sell out but it'll do good numbers. If Rage isn't playing solo shows around NY then I'm gonna be forced for a one day pass here like many others will be as well
Its fucking weird man. A few years ago we all would of shit our pants and refused to believe Rage against the motherfucking machine would play this festival, and now it just looks bad.
Like, you can book Frank Ocean and Sigur Ros, but if the top line is Mumford - Frank - Twenty One Pilots - Chance The Rapper - Major Lazer - Weezer - DJ Snake - Sigur Ros, you're not doing those dope ass bookings any favor at all.

Firefly knew that they'd be in real trouble if they had the same lineup but say... RHCP at that top spot. RATM's extreme rarity saves Firefly from people like us that usually go from skipping this.
Edit- I'll probably go every year regardless, but you can expect some Jamm bitching sessions along the way.
Factor in location based income adjustments and I think that Firefly will still sell extremely well

Rage just hasnt announced east coast dates. if fireflys history with headliners is any indication they will be playing within a few months, if not closer to the festival in one of the surrounding areas. Is there a fest Billie hasnt played in the last 2 years?
This might be in play - thanks to the gf liking a bunch of the headliners.
Hopefully the undercard isn't as trash as Calling's.
Any advice or comments for a first timer making the trip?
if you've done a bunch of camping festivals, there isn't anything to special to warn you about this one. I'd say to budget more time to get in if you're staying in south camping. it's about a 20 minute walk from those lots to the gate, then there's always a decent line to get in at peak times, then it can be another 15 minutes from there to the main stage area. so if you wanna head in for a main stage show at 3, I'd leave before 2 if you wanna see the whole thing.

or just pay extra and stay in north camping.
To echo this definitely do North Camping if you can. Generally you will need to come in on Wednesday for this though keep in mind (unless that is changing this year). They close off access to North Camping on Thursday. Not only is the South camping a farther walk but the lines are like 4X as long, since everyone staying in hotels or daily folks are accessing from there.

I'm glad you mentioned North Camping; this will be my first Firefly but my fifth camping festival, and my partner and I are seriously considering North. But, we have a few friends who are interested in grabbing passes for one or two days (which, we'll see about that come April); do you know if it's possible for us to add them to our campsite so that they have camping wristbands for those days? And, if it were, would they have to park, walk through ALL of South Camping/the festival grounds to get to our site, or could they enter through the back of North? Or should we just suck it up and do South Camping in this case?

Each camping site gets something like 4-6 wristbands. There is an overnight parking pass and a shuttle from the South camping area to the North. You really only need one person to drive a car in and the rest can show up or leave whenever.

I'm thinking we'll see them do a show in NYC and probably DC as well.

Depends where you're coming from and some other factors. If you normally tent camp, then north camping is the preferred area. South camping is a bit further back to your site at the end of the night, depending where you finish up the night. Really depends what you're used to though. Welcome!!!
I would say someone should make a clashfinder for this, but with no day-by-day breakdowns, and only 78 artists spread across 4 days and 5 stages.. how? I don't understand, if the lineup is incomplete then they should say ADDITIONAL ARTISTS TBA, or something. How were there ~50% more artists last year without a Thursday lineup? People are not talking about this enough.
