Loving the lineup. There's hardly anything missing that I was hoping for. All I can think of is Tycho, everything else that I personally wanted is there.
One thing that I think hasn't gotten the attention that it should is the amount of women that Bonnaroo booked this year. Lizzo gets a headlining slot as we all suspected, but there's also big slots for Miley, Lana, Grace Potter, Rezz, and many more. A lot of festivals struggle with that representation, and Bonnaroo did such a good job with it this year.
They actually did not. Shoutout to BookMoreWomen on Instaram for documenting this for all fests.
This year 25% of the artists on the lineup include women, last year was 26%, 2018 was 24%. Coachella and Bottle Rock are both 36%
At least Bonnaroo finally has a female fronted act headlining. I had a life size picture of the rumors being wrong and Lizzo subbing for Chance the Rapper or some shit.
It is pretty strange that on a lineup with some of the best jambands/instrumentalists Roo has booked in a while the superjam is just that Sylvan Esso show.
I think the Superjam is still going to be a bunch of covers though, just with Sylvan Esso's live band. So they'll cover stuff like Sylvan Esso's "Coffee", as well "Die Young", by Sylvan Esso. Stuff like that.
Pretty hype with the world acts on the lineup so far. This looks fun
These guys are dope as hell and one of the prime reasons I want to go tbh. Tool, oysterhead, Primus, etc are great but this is a unique set that's really gonna give me FOMO

agreed they could have done so much more in the undercard that Coachella did but doubled down on EDM instead
I think as for the music they have been pushing recently, they did relatively better getting the booked female acts higher, but I love that someone is doing the stats. Rock the fuck on.
Not a giant fan of either, but also surprised that neither Of Monsters and Men or Rainbow Kitten Surprise aren't on here. Along with no Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club, etc, the indie is a little weak. There's a lot of the soft Still Woozy/Wallows type stuff.
With both being AC festivals, I was surprised that the only shared act between this and The National Homecoming is Sylvan Esso (sort of). I expected to see maybe OMAM, Local Natives, etc.
Seriously though, I think it'll still be in the same lane as Roo's other Superjams, just with Sylvan Esso's WITH as the backbone of it.
I just wouldn't see the point in having their WITH band that they curated for only 6 shows be the backbone of a Superjam unless they were mostly playing their own songs that they rearranged with the band. I do think there will be some covers, but if it's only covers then that wouldn't make sense to me.

That Turkauz Remain in Light set will be great! I've seen most of what I would see, but this lineup is fine. Sad to see what they've done with Thursdays though -- historically caught some amazing sets on Thursday. If this was last time year I probably would've went have some friends going for the first time in a few years, but I'm doing Homecoming, trying to catch Frank at MSG, and hopefully Rage somewhere too.
Bassnectar/Oysterhead feel like the obvious LN Which choices but also I'm not too sure after they put some slightly lower billed acts (I think Brockhampton and TLI were both like 5th on their day) in those spots last year.
Also the idea of them putting Bassnectar on which AGAIN after the clear outcry to have him play the What in '18 would just be kinda comical.
I kind of assumed Tenacious D would be in The Lonely Island’s late night Which slot from last year.
I'd like to offer a moment of appreciation for all the basic lineup fodder Roo didn't book. No Bleachers or Grouplove or Matt & Kim or CHVRCHES or Greta van Fleet or Local Natives or Logic or Tycho. The hip-hop may not be plentiful this year, but it's decent. Lizzo, JID, Denzel Curry, DaBaby, slowthai, SAINt JHN, Young Thug, a Country Grammar set by Nelly. I could see myself at any of those sets so as far as hip-hop names I recognize go, Roo is 8 for 8.

Also all the pop rock bands that could be replaced with much more relevant and dynamic female artists dominating the indie sphere right now
Seriously
How do you not get
Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Sharon Van Etten, Cate Le Bon, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Weyes Blood, Aldous Harding, Julia Holter, Hatchie, Mitski, Vagabon, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Barrie, etc etc
All critically acclaimed artists of the past couple years

Glass Animals, Flume, and Young the Giant are in that category imo

But it could’ve been much worse
Oh we def got some (esp YtG, also the 1975) and I'd like to switch some acts out if I could, but for a lineup that intentionally wants to include some of these sort of acts to appeal to those fans, they didn't go overboard, which is good.
am I the only one that's going to address the elephant in the room?
Flogging Molly...it seems out of place. I'm glad for more punk (although not a big fan) but I did not expect them
I'm stoked, but would've preferred having them do a LN show
yeah I feel like they'd be a fun late night tent show. wouldn't stick around for too long but definitely just like huh. probably one of the last names I expected on the lineup lol

Bleachers, Local Natives, or Foals would all be preferable to Young the Giant but I probably wouldn't see them anyway so it doesn't really matter
The Struts are a pretty lame band in a high spot too

I almost included Foals in my post but I know quite a few like them and didn't want to yuck anyone's yum. There's a whole class of acts that my brain just kinda skips over when evaluating a lineup, and Roo isn't terribly high in them this year.
The thing that annoys me about how they have Thursday now is that I feel like it's just a way to make the other 3 days look more "stacked" to most people viewing the lineup. Cause they probably realize that if Thursday is relative unknowns with no color on the poster, most people will just ignore that day when judging if the lineup is good or worth it, even though Thursdays historically usually have a handful of very notable up-and-comers, to the point of having to worry about conflicts. Now we are forced to worry about more bad conflicts Fri/Sat, while basically just chilling all day Thursday with artists hardly anyone is familiar with.

This is my biggest complaint. These acts don’t need to dominate the lineup by any means but just a couple would go a long way. Closest we have is Pinegrove who I do like but seems a couple years late. Big Thief alone would’ve made a huge difference. Or even Julia Jacklin who I think made the rounds last year.
I wonder if they’ve just stopped trying to compete with Primavera for these acts at all.

The 1975 are critically acclaimed now, I think they have transcended festival fodder

In 2015 the main stage stayed open until 1:30 AM for the Deadmau5 set. Anyone think we might get this this year: Tool from 9:00-11:00, then Bassnectar from 12:00-1:30?
I know that in '15 Deadmau5 was billed as the headliner, and that isn't the case with Bassnectar this year. But nothing was unopposed on Friday in 2015, so it's kind of hard to even call Deadmau5 the headliner over Kendrick that year in the first place.
