Word origin. I don’t disagree. It could be and has been a lot better. I was kind of skipping the big names because I’ve seen several of them and wasn’t feeling inspired. As to Foo Fighters, they are always great live. It’s a show I’m probably seeing if it’s in town in whatever capacity. Assuming they play 2:30-3 hours, they should bring up at least one or two special guests (could be from any genre) and will break out some quality covers. Recommend the OG Wembley show My Hero and Voodoo ‘17’s Under Pressure with Roger Taylor's son on drums. Phone is at 1% else I’d dig em up

Will certainly do that! I'm impressed how well Dave's voice has held up since he does a lot of yelling.
Also I'm not even a Foo Fighters fan at all, but I'm suddenly kind of excited for Foo Fighters after watching these two videos:
Idk dude kinda seems like you're a Foo Fighters fan.
Haha well suppose I am now. Idk what the threshold of "fan" is though, I literally never listen to them lol. They just seem to put on a true headliner-worthy rock show.
Holy shit I just found out I know a lot of Foo Fighters songs. Thought I knew like 3, turns out I knew like 15. That’s what I get for growing up on an alternative station in a small town in the Midwest.

I had that same realization when I looked at their Spotify page yesterday.
Ugh!!! Me too. I was doing laundry right before a big trip. I was walking up to my apartment and I could hear my downstairs neighbor blasting Paul’s Boutique. I thought to myself “my neighbor is pretty cool” got to my apartment and my phone was blowing up. All of my friends were texting me about it. I cried while folding my laundry. Where were you?
I was at Jazzfest, watching Ingrid Lucia (who is one of my favorite local artists) and I got a notification on my phone. It had just happened and been announced. I broke down and started crying.

This is the realization a lot of people have when they see Foo Fighters for the first time. They aren't excited about the show at all and show up and are kind of bowled over by how many bona fide hits they hear.
I dragged a friend of mine to Foo Fighters set at Hangout who listens to outlaw and alt country almost exclusively and 3 songs into the set he was jumping up and down and screaming.
I think for a lot of people the Foos kind of faded into the background of their lives since for many years the Foos were just always there. Hearing it live and loud with tens of thousands of others brings it all to the conscious level.

This is spot on. It’s easy to roll your eyes and groan when you see their name at the top of the lineup, but when it comes to radio rock bands, they’re probably the best headliner option.
And the fact that they’ve somehow never been booked in 20 years of Bonnaroo despite consistently touring and playing every other festival makes this feel kind of overdue and special.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Here you go:
London 2008
New Orleans 2017 (drummer Taylor Hawkins on vocals and Roger Taylor's {Queen's Drummer) son Rufus Taylor on drums
I feel like a lot of people only think of Marc Rebillet as the funny robe guy and skip over his actually incredible musical chops, the dude is hella talented
at kanye in 2014 i was in the back of the What field with all the haters. for the first few songs there wasn't a lot of activity in the crowd but when "Cold" began everyone started vibrating. i know the whole kanye thing is complicated but the first 15 seconds of that song is one of the greatest moments in popular music. the production, that opening lyric, it just fucking grabs you by the throat, it makes you groove while potentially making you feel profoundly uncomfortable.

I was hoping these Foo Fighters videos would help move the needle for me but I can't seem to get into their music at all. I hate Dave Grohl's voice so so much.

Lately whenever me and the boys have been crushing some nattys and white claw on our porch, it always comes up about how bill uses the #11 or b9 to color his chord articulations, particularly when you'd usually expect a m7. Really adds some tonal dissonance that resolves really well, but we all know what a PITA those voicings are for the bass player.
I do appreciate when this thread gets updated because it gives me an opportunity to come back and enjoy this post again.
Love when people post Foo Fighters videos as evidence that they're good live so I watch and every time it's just one of lamest, cringiest performances I've ever seen. I hope they tear it up for all the people who are excited though
And they're still better than Tool, who are just as cringey with an even worse self-serious doofus of a frontman with an annoying voice

Self-serious, sure. Cringey, occasionally. But if you find Maynard's voice annoying, that just sucks for you.
It does suck for me! Sometimes I'm really enjoying the music and then Maynard comes in and I'm like "oh I didn't realize this was a song for 16-year-old incels"
Sorry, I'm in a mood. Tool is actually cool and not a very dated-sounding '90s/'00s band, y'all have nothing to worry about.
EDIT: IN ALL SERIOUSNESS I think Tool would've been a better Bonnaroo set that I maybe would've watched some of, while I 100% plan on skipping every minute of Foos. There was a lot of 90s alt-rock radio around me growing up and the style as a whole consistently leaves a bad taste in my mouth these days outside of a handful of artists.

Tool makes music for dudes who can recite age of consent laws from memory.

This is correct. 100% of Tool fans are perverts. You're missing out.

The 80k+ crowd - many of them singing - at Wembley ‘88 has to count for something. I always thought they gave you a show and never felt like they were anything but honest performers. I’m not a giant fan and never bought anything by them. Last time I saw them here random 20-30 age people were crying during different songs. So obviously some of the songs had relevance to a later generation than me. Still I appreciate the sentiment and hope they deliver a memorable show.

I have respect for their live energy, and I think they’re honest performers, I just think they’re honestly lame and cringey.
Do y’all think Dave will chew gum or not at Roo? That’s the big question about their set for me
