When we saw them in 2015 there was a dad near us in the audience whose phone I peeked at while he was some posting stuff on Facebook like "I can smell some of the good stuff!" I offered him some but he said "oh no no no thank you". He said Foo Fighters were his favorite band.
They’re definitely one of my wife’s favorite. I’ve never seen her go as crazy at a show as she did the first time we saw them. They’re a great live band.

this was sometime in the early 00s, we saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones at a small theater in Atlanta (Center Stage i think). i think we were the only people at the show who brought "the good stuff". there was a solo older gentlemen next to us on the floor reading a VERY tiny book for the first 3-4 songs. my friend offered him a hit and he took a drag and put down the tiny book and danced for the rest of the show.
Nobody was clamoring for the Foo Fighters to play lol
well clamoring is perhaps too strong of a term, but they were frequently speculated and offered as a preferential substitute for other acts booked, like the aforementioned RHCP.
and as much as we joke about it, inforoo certainly has hive mind tendencies but we aren't a monolith. if we were we'd never have fun arguments like "is foo fighters good or bad".
similarly, I will never forget the first time I saw Janelle Monáe and stood behind a guy who was very obviously looking at nudes on Grindr during the beginning of her show. I wonder how he’s doing.

I think people who like the Foo Fighters will enjoy the Foo Fighters set. I think people who don't like the Foo Fighters won't enjoy it. Of the people who are either unfamiliar with the Foo Fighters or on the fence about them, some will enjoy the set, while others will not. When the set has ended, I think some people will forever be grateful they were there, while others will wonder what else they could have seen if they hadn't chosen to see the Foo Fighters, with a spectrum of varying degrees of satisfaction in between those two poles.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount 9/19 - Stars @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 9/20 - Khruangbin @ Forest Hills

I hope this take is not too hot for anyone.
quoting this is preserve your falsifiable take. can't wait to prove you wrong with facts and logic after bonnaroo.

i refuse to accept the Red Hot Chili Peppers apologia currently happening in this thread. not after what the 2012 and 2017 headliner threads went through.
Yes, BSSM is a great record, and "Scar Tissue" & "Soul To Squeeze" are all time singles, but since 1999 Foo Fighters have objectively been a better live act.

There’s no way 2020 foo fighters are better live than the few years after John rejoined the chili peppers
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I saw Chili Peppers in 2007 and they were pretty great still. I didn't see Foo Fighers until 2018, but they were less great.
I'd say its fair to say the Foos might have passed RHCP after Frusciante left in 2009, but before that...nah.

I think I caught the same RHCP tour. CeeLo Green opened, but we got could got there too late to catch that set. RHCP was incredibly disappointin', and that was a big reason I skipped them in 2012 and 2017.
I saw the foo fighters open for RHCP back in 99 I think? Even then I thought the foo’s put on a much better show.
Agreed. I saw it May 4th, 2000. . Chili Peppers were decent, and the setlist was better than what they play now by a long way. But they always seem to leave you hanging and wanting another song or two that you don't get. I think I knew like 2 FF songs, but they were the better show. Two problems with that RHCP show: 1) they had these flag type screens that they only used sparingly and 2) Anthony started off with "sittin on a sack of beans..." but they never played it. So everyone booed. haha
