Yeah, LN Saturday has me puling my hair out. Wasn't sure if despite billing Friday we could end up with The 1975>RtJ like we had Kacey>The National last year. Also now realizing as I type it out that Kacey was playing during #GoldenHour which probably dictated that.
Though they're billed right next to each other, I think the gap between RtJ's popularity and the 1975's is pretty substantial. Stranger things have happened though!
Also The 1975's show will arguably benefit more from being in the dark than RTJ's

RTJ before the sun goes down just feels wrong though
So I know this was like 10 years ago, but I’m still mad about Bonnaroo putting Animal Collective on the ducking What at 3 pm In like 110 degrees. This was during the Merriweather era too. LN made so much sense and they fucking blew it so hard
IIRC that was because one of them had a wedding to go to the next day across the country or something.
With tool bringing morello on stage for a song last time does anyone think maybe adrian belew might join them for a song this year? They are playing the same day
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Well in 2007 Rage Against the Machine got back together and played Coachella and Tool headlined Bonnaroo. Now the same exact thing is happening this year. So maybe history will just continue to randomly repeat itself.

That’s weird, I read an interview somewhere that they kind of talked shit about that spot and how it didn’t fit the mood
I don't think Bassnectar gets the Which Stage again. In 2018 they literally had to make him unconflicted so he didn't ruin everyone's set inside Centeroo. But having an artist unconflicted on the Which causes its own problems. Bassnectar getting the What Stage has been requested by everyone for a long time and it'd be a waste to drop the ball yet again this year. It'd be better for the fans and better for everyone that doesn't want Bassnectar sound bleed ruining whatever show they're at. As long as Tool plays a two hour show at night does it really matter whether they're closing that stage?
I also wouldn't dismiss the possibility of it going Bassnectar (8:45-10) > Tool 11:00-1:00
that's really a huge downgrade for bassnectar. he will be LN zero questions. i'd say Tool 9-11 and nectar 12-130 is a more likely scenario
I don't really see how it's a huge downgrade. A show at 9pm is going to be exactly the same if moved to midnight. Unless the argument is there's more magic at midnight or people are just on more drugs at that point.

maybe magic isn't the right term, but all the large headlining EDM acts have been LN. odesza was pre-hl last year but there a little outside of what i'm considering "headlining" edm. skrillex, bassnectar, flume, pretty lights, major lazer etc. the high energy sets are awesome to have after the headliner.
If you're interested in the behind the scenes stuff of how a festival lineup is booked, we just had a great interview with the guys at AC Entertainment about how they went about creating the Bonnaroo 2020 lineup. Check it out at The What Podcast or listen directly on Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/1QwTq6u8KOwZ29h42uCRzq

edit: huge maybe was a strong term to use too
Okay I see what you mean, the pacing does work better that way. Do you think Flume > Lizzo still works? Because I'm thinking that'll be the most likely scenario

Bassnectar is billed #3 on their day while Flume is billed #2.
If Bassnectar is getting a LN What set, then Flume would also be possible for a LN What set and people don't seem to think that'll happen.
Last year it was Brockhampton (#5 on their day) and The Lonely Island (#6 on their day) to get the LN Which spot.
Bonnaroo did say they improved the Which stage for 2020, but jumping to a #2 or #3 listed act seems a little much.
2019 LN overview with billing info, ignoring The Other:
Listening to the podcast now — for the benefit of those who don’t, an important distinction is that the guy who books The Other is C3, not AC. I feel like that matters for why that stage lineup continues to feels so disconnected and unadventurous.
The electronic acts ACL has booked recently have been streets ahead of Roo. I don't think it's a C3 issue.
Im thinking Gizz is a long LN tent like Joe Russo last year and DaBaby is LN Which with Nelly and Yaeji going back to back in a different tent.
I will be legit stunned if DaBaby gets LN which. He has the draw for it I suppose but I doubt he spends much more than 30 minutes actually performing, so it’d be kind of a waste. Fits better in the daytime slot that Juice had last year imo.
Gizz in a tent makes sense but they also probably work on the Which - especially with how high they’re billed. Might not overpack the field but idk if that’s necessarily a bad thing lol.

With the extremely large turnout Paramore got, I really can’t see Miley not being on the main stage. If she’s on Which before Tool then I stand corrected. Also if they do put Bassnectar on What after Tool then maybe Miley on Which LN??
Speaking of Paramore, Hayley Williams just released her first ever solo track, with an album - Petals for Armor - set to drop May 8. She said they've got a tour planned. Surely she'll be doing a set in Plaza 2..
