HTF do you know A Trick of the Tail? It's one thing to know Duke, Abacab or even And Then There Were Three which all featured hits and were from the era where they were way more popular than in the early-mid 70's. This was a relatively obscure album where Hackett stayed on just to prove that Genesis could survive without Peter Gabriel. My little brother loved the fuck out of it and played it all the time. I remember loving Los Endos (some of Phil Collins' best work with them), Squonk, Ripples and maybe Entangled where I think there are actually like 2 or 3 of them playing 12 string on. Haha. Random as fuck to see that album pop up.
Personal favorites were Selling England by the Pound, Foxtrot and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. But definitely A Trick of the Tail (and probably Nursery Cryme) are in that next tier of still really fucking good and unique Genesis albums.

Go Mad Dog.
lol it's the only one i own.
i'm pretty into genesis for someone my age group, and that's essentially all due to Danny.
Does anyone feel like they announced Sylvan Esso as the Super Jam so early because there are so many talented musicians on this line up the speculation would be wild?

I'm just confused what's gonna make it a superjam rather than just a regular set? Also if there's any chance it's not late night

Since BC somehow missed out on Gizz, I really hope that them and Sylvan Esso don't clash. That's my one wish, and I can already tell that it probably won't come true.
Wind and Wuthering has some good tracks on it also (iirc, haven't listened to much prog rock since high school)
Yeah. I always liked Blood on the Rooftops. To me that was even more of a transitional album away from the Gabriel era than A Trick of the Tail. Hackett left after that and released *edit* Please Don’t Touch which is an all time personal favorite of mine. I grew up on it and always had old Yes, old Genesis, ELP and King Crimson as my Top 4 bands.

Word. I barely like Duke and Abacab and not so much later shit. But the middle albums always stuck with me. It’s a shame we don’t get albums anymore though maybe that’s better for the environment. The concentric square story that typed on the album leads into the musical part of the story of the lamb. Maybe Jesus is the narrator? Maybe Rael himself or a voice in his head? We don’t get that kind of concept work as much anymore. Pink Floyd were masters of the concept too.

Promise I'm not being snarky but I'm assuming it's going to be a superjam because it's billed as one. They could just have done "Sylvan Esso presents WITH" if that's all it was.

But I'm asking what about it will make it a superjam. If it's just Sylvan Esso and guests doing Sylvan Esso songs, that's a bit of a cop-out

Haha that'd be so much of a cop-out that it didn't even cross my mind.

love the live version of "Squonk" on Seconds Out.
Fucking right. I missed all the shows because I was too young or away in college. I missed Steve Hackett at Tulane in like 82 as well. I also missed al the many Gabriel shows in Houston. So fuck me on all those bad decisions. I did have a fly ass poster of a photo of the Seconds Out tour on my dorm ceiling though. Haha. Where I made up for it was catching two shows of Hackett’s Genesis Revisited on the first Cruise to the Edge. We met him and peaced him off on the boat a couple times. Setlists were fn great as were both shows.
Watcher of the Skies > Dancing Out with the Moonlit Knight > fly on a windshield > Broadway Melody of 74 > Cuckoo Cocoon > Chamber of 32 Doors > I know what I like > Musical Box > Suppers Ready
Dance on a Volcano > Entangled > firth of fifth > 11th Earl of Mar > In that quiet earth > Afterglow > Watcher of the Skies > los endos
Seeing that and UK with Bozzio were life musical highlights from that festival

I didn't listen to the What podcast or whatever it's called, but I heard they said it will be a mix of Sylvan Esso songs and covers, I'm assuming with guests outside of their WITH band.

So basically like the Bon Iver second set but with SE.
Would really like a scenario where it's not all/mostly during Gizz but I don't see it.
I wonder who potential guests for that would be. Brittany Howard maybe? Ezra Koenig? Can't think of much they'd pull from on the lineup

I saw the Sylvan Esso WITH show at the Ryman and it was really great. But I’d still be let down if it was only their songs. Still absolutely worth checking out though.
The light show was basic but very effective too. Two rows of squares, all independently LED. Plus there were like 10 people on stage but it was very delicately done.
That's honestly gonna be a fucking bummer. The Sylvan Esso SJ and King Gizz are my two "must sees" of Saturday. My only hope really is that they are slightly staggered and Gizz plays for 2 or more hours so I can catch a chunk of it.
Holy shit that Sunday is stacked. Kendrick, Bon Iver, Brockhampton, Of Monster and Men, Polo and Pan, Chalie XCX, Orville Peck, Girl in Red, Julia Jacklin would be must sees for me.
You forgot two shows of Dan Snaith: Caribou and Daphni
This alone seems worth renewing the ol passport to me. Jesioneka let’s gooooo
