Loved the new arrangement on Digital Witnesses, loved Los Ageless > Slow Disco, loved dancing with random strangers to Fast Slow Disco. Easily best set of the weekend so far
Although Jamila's band was incredibly tight as well. Giovanni sounded incredible, and going from jazzy Nirvana cover > Basquiat was dope too
Day 2 was great. If i would have been able to see Jay Electronica before St. Vincent it probably would have been as good as Day 1. Full sets I saw ranked:
Ty Segall St. Vincent (this set definitely makes me want to revisit Daddy’s Home again. Think I’ll appreciate it much more now.) Waxahatchee Maxo Kream Horsegirl Angel Olsen Bartees Strange
I was standing next to two gentlemen while waiting for Ty Segall to come on, and they definitely thought they were waiting for Faye Webster. They were totally confused when Ty’s band came on and started playing. I should have done them a favor and not said anything, but I told them that they were at the wrong stage and she was likely just starting at the Blue Stage. One guy was pissed at the other and just stormed off toward the Blue Stage. The other just sat there and stared at the program for 5 minutes like it magically changed on him and contemplated whether or not he was losing his mind. That was the most memorable non-music experience of the weekend probably.

So I’m going to say it: St Vincent last night was the best set I’ve ever seen. I had never seen her before last night and honestly I was not a huge fan of her most recent album. But my god what a fucking show that was. All her material plays up incredibly live, especially the new album. The sound felt like a journey that just kept getting better and better as each song went by, and the production and stage arruangements were just fantastic. So with that said, I had never seen Angel Olsen before either and on another day she would have easily been the best set of the fest for me. She just sounds so much better live IMO, and the show felt really tight and orchestrated. I was amazed by the smoke and light set up on Gloria where it almost looked like a 3-D projection spiral. Also loved that after all the speculation we ended up getting SVE for Like I used to. I think part of what made these 2 sets so special was that I didn’t particularly enjoy my first couple hours at the fest. It was super hot and the dust was the worst I’ve ever experienced at a fest, plus I didn’t love the music I heard prior to angel.
-Waxahatchee: she was solid if a little underwhelming. Her show just didn’t feel quite as smooth as her recorded stuff.
-Faye Webster: this is nothing on Faye but the sound bleed from Ty Seagull was just too much for me to enjoy/even hear at times. We ended up leaving to go listen to Ty so we didn’t have to listen to two sets at once. Objectively I don’t think Ty was bad it just wasn’t the vibe for me at that moment.
-Kim Gordon: I will go as far to say that this set was bad. I know her show is supposed to be very avant-garde but her performance just felt really tired and frankly kind of boring. I think her finishing 10 mins early says it all.
All in all in was a great 2 days of music. Since we fly out tonight I think we are going to skip day 3 to avoid the dust and provide more time to explore Chicago. Absolutely floored that we made this weekend happen but I don’t think ill be coming back to Pitchfork unless the lineup is crazy good. I wasn’t really a fan of the venue as it felt really crowded at all times, and the sound washing really took away from some the sets. The lines certainly weren’t ideal either but I think every fest will be experiencing that until the labor market sorts it’s self out.
Also, if anyone wants our two tickets for today just DM me and I’ll text you the tickets. Most bummed about missing Caro & Yves Tumor today but we will be seeing them at OSL. I’d highly recommend everyone checking out The Weather station, really happy we got to see their after show on Friday.

I never got St Vincent before, but I was completely blown away last night. Huge step up from the snoozfest that was phoebe. What a fucking giant show. I loved every second of it

As someone who's not into St. Vincent's new album at all, I was okay with the fact that I'm seeing Lucy Dacus the night Annie plays here, but everything I'm reading about her current show is making me feel disappointed in that conflict again. I've always been impressed by how Annie has been able to reinvent her live show so drastically so often.

I loved your comment about the set bringing you to your knees, exactly how I felt in the moment.
On Friday I snuck in a shit ton of tequila. Only substance I could use as a chaser was sprite, not great lol. Learned my lesson and brought in whiskey so I could have it with some coke, so much better lol
Think I’ll be seeing Caroline Polachek > Yves Tumor > Danny Brown > Flying Lotus > Erykah. Mariah has been pretty chill, just hung out in the shade with shuck and drank though so didn’t pay super close attention

food vendor: Next in line sticky fingers: yeah could I get a lime, sliced, and maybe some salt if you've got it
They sold out of single day tickets for Sunday. Then add in everyone showing up at the same time in the middle of the afternoon so you get the crush of people.
Yves Tumor is rockin everyone to the next dimension on blue.
