Janelle has never played the Chicago edition of the fest, has a festival date (Roo) in the fall, and would probably would go over pretty well with the target demo. Feels about the same size as something like Robyn or YYYs. I could see her playing pretty easily
There has to be a non-white headliner and Phoebe Bridgers isn’t headlining.
Have you seen her placement on other festival lineups? That fits with a Pitchfork sized headliner
Unless her agent is fighting to get her up top, no dice. Its not P4K's fault they booked her when they did and cant do much about it now. They could punt and give her a spot next year if it came down to it. Do you think Phoebe is the type to be clawing for higher billing placement anyway? It really only makes sense if the festival is trying to save money and you just give her a slightly higher fee and not use up all they had set aside for RTJ so they can maybe go after some other mid tier acts they had on their radar but couldnt get last time around.
I feel like if she were headlining they'd want to promote the new album as much as possible
Feel like the PR roll out for the album on itself went kind of under the rug, Masseduction had a way bigger impact I feel like? Idk.
Is this even happening (in July)? Feel like august and september will be very stacked and that there will be no room for P4K. (also Lolla got apparently a permit for theirs to happen in august) Feel like a lot of indie/alternative names will be at APE/DTRH/Lowlands/End Of The Road.

They have a permit for September, so its the week before Riot. Plus theres a handful of acts that have a suspicious gap that respective weekend with no Chicago date. Of those names ( so far ) only one was not on the 2020 line up. There isnt anyone on the uk/europe fest line ups except for Dave that were on the 2020 poster. So seems to be pointing towards retaining most of who they had.
I mean yeah, D’Angelo if he could play 2 hours would be incredible. Fiona, Nick Cave since he was close a couple of times already. Portishead, Kraftwerk ( who almost looked like they had based on tour dates ) Atoms for Peace or Yorke solo would be great.

I bet that Phoebe's management team definitely fought for the top spot. Look at how well they've hyped her up over the past year.
I would've want to post that I thought Big Thief was touring with The National and perhaps that's how they got such high billing but I looked it up and they had Phoebe Bridgers, SVE, Lucy Dacus and Julia Jacklin as support so.

Vampire Weekend Angel Olsen The Fiery Furnaces Carly Rae Jepsen Waxahatchee Yves Tumor & it's Band Orville Peck Hop Along Dehd etc.
Janelle Monáe Sharon Van Etten Kaytranada Band Of Horses Rico Nasty Bachelor (Jay Som & Palehound) The Weather Station Buscabulla Makaya McCraven etc.
Jamie xx Khruangbin Phoebe Bridgers Big Thief Yaeji Caroline Polachek DJ Nate J.I.D Jamila Woods Amaarae etc.
So you want to really redo most of the line up and axe all the headliners, great. And how is being on LiB matter when there is no conflict between their dates.

You are aware that some things have changed since they announced the 2020 line up nearly 1,5 years ago, right. RTJ is playing Riot Fest, The National moved all of their EU+UK dates to 2022, no sign of the US tour they were about to embark on. Only in the case of YYY's and to expand on that further with a lot more acts in the undercard, you could guess they might return with no new dates announced yet for anything in '21 or '22. So.. Yeah, I went for some new acts that have already been announced for a couple of fests lol. And me mentioning St. V being on LiB was more of a thought that she could also work as a headliner, nothing more.
