Driving through anywhere in Los Angeles, a very blue region with the most cases in the country, you will see sidewalk after sidewalk of maskless brunchers, all while the city refuses to lock down again and blames their problems on neighboring red counties like Orange and Ventura. So no, it is definitely not specifically a conservative issue, but a lot of deluded Democrats here choose to believe it is, which is hurting us.
That said, it does greatly justify my music tastes over the years that the dumbest people in this pandemic happen to love Smash Mouth and The Chainsmokers.
Ventura County ain't red, homeboy. Especially compared to Orange County.
Has it really changed much since I grew up there, though? I know they re-drew the district, but every school I was sent to in the county (and it was a lot, since my parents moved every year) was very conservative. And it sounds like they've been as lax as Orange when it comes to closing beaches.
Though again, LA County has been almost as stupid since June or so.
lol never knew this. I do know there's a whole subreddit dedicated to hating Chuck, the brother of Saul Goodman from Better Call Saul. At least in that case I get it.

Fuck Chuck, I hate him even though Jimmy is actually a real heel and I don't like to be emotionally invested in fiction. But Grandpa Joe, what the heck!? Ain't nobody got time for that.
Good news in Mobile: our numbers are trending down since the mask order was put into effect. Schools opening will probably fuck it up but I doubt they'll be open long.
As I already said our public schools are not doing in person classes. My wife teaches at a public school, she found out today her principal, who is like a superhero, lost her dad to covid last month. Her mom got it, her daughter got it, sister got it. Rest of the family is fine. She took care of the whole family and was exposed, has been tested twice and never got it. Very sad though it could've been worse.
It's wild how some people just don't catch it. Maybe somewhere down the road we'll figure out why.

I wouldn't necessarily do it in Los Angeles right now, but in general I don't think eating outside is that big of a deal. The number of COVID cases in the area and the length of time you're sitting there eating make a difference, but the benefits of seeing a loved one and doing something that feels somewhat normal for once could outweigh the relatively low risk of transmission for a lot of people.
Marc Lipsitch, PhD, a professor of epidemiology and director of the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, knows as much as anyone about this pandemic. I asked him if, given all he understands, he’d go to an outdoor restaurant during the pandemic.
“I have, actually, once,” he said. It was with family and one friend, who he describes as almost family. “I don’t think that’s a riskless activity,” Lipsitch says. “But the wait staff was masked, and we were masked when we weren’t eating.” Importantly, he notes, this was in a part of Massachusetts where he knew there were very few cases.
“That seems completely reasonable to me,” he says. “If I were in Houston, Texas, I might not.”

Your President re: college football
“First of all, those people in that sport are incredible people,” Trump said. “Some of the coaches like Nick Saban and Coach O; how bout Coach O? He’s central casting. And Lou Holtz is a fantastic friend of mine. So many others. They’re just great people, and they want to play football. These people (players) are so powerful and so strong and not lots of body fat, maybe none in some cases and they’re very healthy people. People don’t realize it’s a tiny percentage of people who get sick. They’re old. Especially old people with heart and weight problems. “This attacks older people very viciously by the way. But these football players are very young, strong people physically. They’re not going to have a problem. Could it happen? I doubt it. You’re not going to see people dying. Young people have the sniffles. The state of California, almost nobody like zero, that was young had a serious problem. I think football is making a tragic mistake (if the season were to be canceled).”

He is such a horrible embarrassment of a human being. Relentlessly irresponsible and without conscience.
I sent that to my hubby yesterday because those are what he was using. He said he is going to switch back to wearing MY homemade masks (which I am selling) that are super cute, adjustable and have three layers including a pocket for a filter (and adjustable/changeable ear cords).

So, a bit of a medical update that's relevant to the overall conversation:
My first positive antibody test was on 4/8. I saw my doctor on 7/30, and he decided to throw another antibody test in with a bunch of other blood work I was having done. I tested positive, again. I know it's only anecdotal, and there's every chance I'm an outlier, but it's nice to know the "ZOMG ANTIBODIES DISAPPEAR AFTER TWO MONTHS" narrative isn't 100% accurate.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Yeah, I don’t think they were saying the majority of antibodies disappear, just a not-insignificant percentage of people experienced this and because we know so little still, it’s better safe than sorry. Also from what I gather, antibody tests are still questionable

DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE!
I kid. From what I understand, the progression went as follows:
- A couple studies were conducted that said that antibodies rapidly declined after 2-3 months. - A bunch of news outlets turned that into headlines that screamed "Immunity only lasts 2-3 months!!" - A couple of studies came out - one out of China and one out of Mount Sinai here in NYC - that said, "Wait, what actually happens is that antibodies decline 2-3 months in, but then stabilize as far out as 6 months."
I dunno. It was just nice to have some personal confirmation that I didn't go through that crap back in March for nothing, I s'pose.

Lets see how long it takes for this to happen here.
Given the attire of the people in this video, it looks like it is probably not stifling hot. Can't these people just throw on a mask too for a little extra protection for their concert neighbors?

That show seems to be the most well-run version of one of these outdoor COVID concerts. I don't know if I would go to this right now at the US's current case level, but I think if I lived in the UK, I would.

Its hot and humid in the uk right now. They had 90+ temps for the last week plus 40% humidity give or take. And the sun doesnt go down til after 9 on top of that. Nobody over there can handle anything above 80, plus most people do not have AC in their homes.
I don’t have numbers on this but a lot people in the Facebook group I’m a part of said that there’s no way to make money on that unless the artist didn’t charge a fee. I think a lot of these shows and drive ins are being put on by smaller promoters who are trying to make a name for themselves with hopes that they can not drown for long enough to where they make a name for themselves

I literally just looked at thejeremy (before reading your post) and bitched that they didn't have on masks. Like that's a lot of people outside and even though they are 6' apart, I would not be comfortable.

My first thought was - this is an attempt.. but already the cost to get riggers for those platforms (and them taken down) is already a significant cost; reduced crowd; probably production staff working OT to have less people involved. The cost evaluation must be devastating

I mean, that's the big question, isn't it? I'll really curious as to whether any outbreaks are traced back to events like this, although I'm guessing we might never know one way or the other.
It's, like, theoretically, based on what we know right now, this might totally be OK, but it's really a big experiment putting that many people in that kind of area and hoping that what we know now is actually right, when the facts about this thing have changed so much over the last six months.

I know there hasn’t been anything from drive ins but contact tracing is a joke in the states so it’s hard to know
