Cough and minor congestion. Probably a cold or something
You've been social distancing and wearing a mask, right?
Yes, but my mom was forced to go back to work so it's not impossible. Social distancing and masks don't stop COVID if you're in the same room with people for extended periods of time.

Wait, isn't that the point of masks? If both are wearing them that is.

From my understanding, masks are great for short periods of time but if you’re in the same room as somebody for more than 45 minutes it doesn’t really cut it.

I have never seen that and I am now doing research and still don't see that. Do you have a link?
EDIT: The only thing that I have seen so far that agrees with your statement is thie
Wearing a mask can help reduce this risk, but the longer you are in close contact with others, the higher the chance that you or someone else will take off their mask or have it slip off of their face.

Interesting, I couldn’t tell you where I read it. I still find it hard to believe that masks are the perfect solution. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had a near global shutdown.

My friends live in Hungary. They locked down and masked up for 3 weeks.
Now, it's mid August, and they're sending me pictures drinking wine and dancing, and the country hasn't more than 15 new cases in a day in a long time. Masks work.

I don't think that they are the perfect solution, but I do believe that the seriously decrease the spread of viruses. Especially if you have a high quality, multiple layer mask. I make my masks with a filter pocket and never use it, but when I have to actually go back to work I will definitely start investing in those.
I absolutely agree that they do a lot. All I’m trying to say is that if you’re breathing the same air as people for 8 hours a day it’s probably not the safest thing

Oh man
Masks aren't required at my work, and I'm the only one who ever bothers wearing one. And even at that, it's usually only if I'm dealing with deliveries or pickups.
Most of the time though, I'm usually by myself and other people are far enough away.

Lombardy had 16,840 deaths. Population of 10M compared to 8.5M in NYC. Better than NYC, and the virus got there roughly 10 days before NYC.
Yes, okay. But NYC had important handicaps in comparison to Lombardy, several of which are significant and can't be dismissed out of hand: 25 times the population density (Lombardy is comparatively huge and extends far beyond just metro Milan), the counterproductive response from the US federal government, and far more international traffic leading up to and exacerbating the initial local spread. This is not an apples to apples comparison so you can't just draw conclusions from case numbers.
If we had locked down like Italy had, most all of the US would probably be better off than we are now, but our national government shirked all responsibility so they deserve a hefty portion of the blame. Americans far beyond NYC and New Jersey would have lost their shit if Cuomo would have gone it alone and had cops setting up checkpoints to restrict travel like they did in Lombardy. They had a real lockdown there, while our top leader was telling people there was nothing to worry about and encouraging them to exercise their freedom to go maskless. We're talking apples to elephants.
Gave blood, specifically 'power reds' a couple weeks ago. Of course as a good samaritan doing a good deed, but also selfishly because they are testing all blood for a COVID-19 antibodies.
I haven't had any consistent or obvious symptoms, but I have been around well over a dozen positive cases, within close intimate contact due to my job. So I was curious what came up. Did I ever happen to contract it, but was asymptomatic?
Results back were negative. My wife thinks I am crazy for being slightly disappointed.
But this just proves that proper PPE works. I have worn a P-100 respirator mask on 99% of my calls since work provided them at the end of April (wore N-95 before that). I have worn goggles on at least 90% of the calls (sometimes the strap breaks off, so I'd have to go without).
A fair amount of my cohorts don't bother with that gear. We are *required* to wear some sort of mask during our *entire* shift, regardless if we are with a patient or on a call, they want us wearing at least a simple surgical mask even if it's just you and your partner in the truck. Guys definitely don't follow that. Our company admin is somewhat transparent, but not as much as I'd like. They will mention in passing of general emails that we have had positive cases among employees, but I would like to know after each time. Gathering context clues, we have had a rough estimate of at least 10 positives among our 400 employees - a lot of people having contact with positive COVIDs every single day, so it's bound to happen, but the troops are hanging in there.
Again, it's frustrating to see people whine about wearing a simple face covering. Try having to wear this facehugger for 13 hours a day in 106 degree heat - and then jump in on a CPR. The sweat will literally pour out of the goggles. Keeps the bloody brains and puke from entering your retinas!!!

Ask surgeons and all the people in the room about how they manage with the same air for at least 8 hours straight

I figured that they were still at risk.
Also, guys, I am not saying masks don’t work nor am I advocating against them in the slightest. I wear one anywhere I go off of my property and don’t take it off. I’m just saying that even if all parties are wearing masks (which in this case it’s MO so getting people to do that is like telling a toddler they can’t have candy) there is still a chance of transmission and spending more time with them is increasing the risk. Didn’t think this would be an unpopular opinion here.
Like if you don’t actually need to be somewhere around people to get something done, you should stay home. Go out and mask up only when you need to and be brief.

we need to mask up. i do that for 8 plus hours daily. it would be great if everyone were to stay home but most people arent which just results in mental health issues for so many people. we need to socialize, communicate with people we love... OUTSIDE. Covid is terrible.... i was crawling back in march and just had food dropped off for friends recently who described it as a ice pick in their neck. But at the same time i know that it's less likely to spread outside and with winter coming and seasonal depression if there's a bad 2nd wave we have to hang out now so we can get though life.
German scientists stage packed concert to investigate COVID-19 spread | Sat, Aug 22 Music fans in Germany got back into a concert venue for the first time in months. They weren’t just there to enjoy the songs however, it was part of a massive experiment by scientists to investigate how the coronavirus spreads in crowded environments. It’s hoped the research findings will allow large gatherings to take place again sooner.

Do we know if masks were involved?
Cause I would sign up to go to see live music for science but I'd rather be in the mask group.

Masks were mandatory. Also everyone wore a tracking device to monitor their movements around the arena. And they used some kind of contact material on surfaces to monitor touch points.
Trump, without evidence, accuses FDA of delaying coronavirus vaccine trials and pressures agency chief
As someone participating in these trials, this man can KISS MY ASS!
"The deep state, or whoever, over at the FDA is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics," Trump tweeted,
What the fuck. We are lined up to take this shot. They are going as fast as they can. You piece of shit asshole.
Another 134,000 people could die in the US from Covid-19 by December if no further safety measures are mandated -- and the actual number probably would be much worse if mandates are relaxed, researchers say.
The projection by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation comes with a silver lining: About 70,000 of those lives would be saved if many more Americans wore masks, the institute's leader said.
