Another 134,000 people could die in the US from Covid-19 by December if no further safety measures are mandated -- and the actual number probably would be much worse if mandates are relaxed, researchers say.
The projection by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation comes with a silver lining: About 70,000 of those lives would be saved if many more Americans wore masks, the institute's leader said.
I am so over this country and Trump's handling of this shit. I'm always over Trump but my tolerance level is critical right now. Something needs to happen.
The researchers found that those who had higher scores in traits including callousness, deceitfulness, hostility, impulsivity, irresponsibility, manipulativeness and risk-taking tended to be less compliant with COVID-19 containment measures, such as mask-wearing, hand-washing and social distancing.
Short synopsis of seeing my parents for the first time in 7 months in NJ today: 1) Mom is turning into a socialist via slow burning truths. 2) Where I was raised is WAY too bougey/expensive for me to ever move to 3) Mom loved your unicorn mask Vieux 4) My parents made a happy birthday poster with cats all over it.. I guess they know me. 5) I landed in another fucking town trying to answer people in a different fucking thread causing me to wait for 30 minutes to get picked up 6) Having a brother you have to make amends with during COVID is shit, but it is what it is 7) Taking a walk with your mother and showing her where you USED to go hang out and smoke weed is hilarious. 8) My Dad is definitely going through the mask/PPE-fuck it syndrome, luckily work he plays it safe. But worried. 9) It was a little awkward. I think all this and only having covid, work, and politics to talk about made it more awkward. 10) Sang's Mom.
I haven't watched it yet. No spoilers. Also @gno I am so glad that the trip was way better than expected. <3 Also, Fuck Trump holding your masks hostage. I cannot believe the delay of the post office. 3 days to deliver is now day 10 and still not delivered.
Thought about going on a rom-com spree cuz I haven't seen most of the big ones. I watched How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days recently. It's pretty bad.
have you seen "Love, Actually"? in my memory it's the king of rom coms.
after you do your rom com binge i highly recommend "They Came Together" if you haven't seen it. hilarious rom com satire starring amy poehler and paul rudd and featuring a bunch of other funny people. flew under the radar but it's a gem.

I think I've caught some of They Came Together on TV but not more than a scene. I haven't seen Love, Actually, no. Also a Christmas movie, right?

I like the Break-Up a lot.
Love, Actually is centered around Christmas, yes.
Like buttermilk is bettermilk jack said, it's one of the good standard rom coms of the last twenty years. Unfortunately, it's also one that has some problematic elements in hindsight. I would be interested in what you think of it.

“You like fiction books? I love fiction books!”
David Wain and Michael Showalter wrote it, and I love them both. It’s interesting to me how so many members of The State went on to do so much funny stuff, and how many of them kept working with each other over and over in the last almost thirty years. If you go back and watch The State, they are all just babies.
Also, as far as rom coms go, I really enjoyed Showalter’s My Name is Doris. Sally Field being adorable playing against the guy who was Leo in Veronica Mars.

I also loved "My Name is Doris"!
i think i got this from listening to one of the episodes of WTF where Maron interview one of The State people, but I think for the people who watched The State while it was airing it seems like a much bigger deal then it actually was. like i don't think it translated at all to the next generation, it didn't become sketch comedy canon like SNL or Kids In The Hall, and even at the time it wasn't nearly as big a deal as later sketch shows like Portlandia or (obviously) Chappelle's Show. but for me it was a big stepping stone in my appreciation of sketch.
but as you say, what you can't deny is how long a vast majority of the cast has continued to work in comedy, and how frequently they still work together on various projects. i would bet the most financially successful out of all of them is Joe Lo Truglio? i think he's the only one on a long-running network show. also he was early twenties on The State, and he's 49 now! he definitely has a youthful face.
i'm always excited when i see anyone from The State pop up on anything, but I think I get the most excited for Ken Marino. i don't think he's ever been in anything that isn't excellent.
and the david wain episode of r u talking rem re me is the funniest episode out of that whole podcast series, imo.
