Moderna has said it could have enough data to show whether its vaccine is safe and effective as soon as November. That timeline would make it one of the first drugmakers to seek U.S. approval.
And my numbers will be in there. Fingers crossed they are good.

Not sure if you can answer this question or not but if this vaccine is approved, I assume this means you won't need to receive it once it goes public since you were already given the vaccine? I'm not sure what the proposed vaccine scheduling is yet.

if you're part of a study, ideally you don't know if you got it, so once it's widely available you'd likely be best getting it again

50/50 chance I got the vaccine. If Moderna applies for an FDA emergency use application, and they will, then I will be told by Moderna if I got the shot. I made sure of all this up front before I signed up. No way I was going to wait two years to find out if I got the vaccine or not.
If I did get it, great. If not, then I will line up like everyone else and get it when it’s my turn.
Britain considering infecting healthy volunteers to test vaccines Britain could become the world's first country to intentionally infect healthy volunteers with coronavirus in the world’s first "human challenge" trial to expedite a determination on which COVID vaccines work. The Financial Times reported that the government-funded studies could be announced next week and begin in January. British government officials would only say that discussions were underway for such a trial.

I read this last night. 3000 people. These people are insane.

The sad part is, there's probably enough poor and desperate people out there willing enough to do this

There absolutely would be in America anyway
I am not necessarily opposed to this. It's coming a little later than it should have if they are going to start it now. But the people signing up know the extreme risk and are probably going to end up being mostly younger and healthier people. If it can expedite a vaccine by a significant time period then I see far fewer people dying and this being a net positive.
But it definitely needs to be done extremely strategically.
I feel like anyone who goes to a show here is just kind of rolling the dice that being a bit distanced will do the trick, which hasn't really been proven out in an indoor environment.

I think if you're distanced and wearing a mask that's going a long way. (As long as rates are fairly low in your area.)

But what's that based on? It's all kind of a hunch, isn't it?
I mean, you could totally be right. I guess I'd just be super-nervous being the guinea pig for this sort of thing, when we have literally zero data as to exactly what the chances of infection in those circumstances are.
Temps taken at the door. Masks required. I have no plans on going. But I’m watching to see how it plays out.
I’m hoping Exit/In, that’s owned by the same group, will open up and have some shows outside. They could shut down the traffic on the rock block and have a show on the roof. To that I would go.

I was advised Pfizer is a blind study as well. I mentioned what happens if Moderna gets approved first, will I be able to know if I got a vaccine. I'll get an answer tomorrow because like you said, no way am I waiting 2 whole years for a good vaccine.

Pfizer and Moderna are neck and neck. Pfizer will probably be first. Not a part of NIH so they can go faster. BUT it has to be kept so cold it’s going to be a problem to ship. Modena does not have the bad storage issues.
You can leave the vaccine study any time you want. So if a vaccine is readily available, you can drop out and get it. I think the real scenario that is going to play out is Pfizer comes in first with an emergency FDA approval. Then you will be told what you got and the study is over. Probably won’t get paid, but we are not doing this for the money. Moderna will most likely follow 2 to 3 months behind. Pfizer will be for health care workers because of the cold chain. Moderna will be for everyone else.
Johnson and Johnson literally started Phase three yesterday. The big thing with them is it only requires one shot. So they will have their data almost as quickly as the other two.
That’s three really good candidates in a few months, that say they can pump out millions of doses. We are getting there.

I feel like the real trick is that, with these first few vaccines, there's some indication we might not see sterilizing immunity. Personally, I'm totally cool with a vaccine that turns COVID-19 into just an upper respiratory infection and nukes the mortality rate, but I have a feeling that's going to be a tough messaging row to hoe, and it also might not get us in a "back to living normally/without masks/gathering in large groups/etc." sort of place as quickly as we'd all like.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I am trying to live in as desireless a place as possible with all of this stuff - I don't think I can take feeling actual hope at this point in the cycle.
Druid I read an article from people that are part of the vaccine trails and they all said the second shot wiped them out and they all got fevers. How was the second shot for you and how have you been?
