We've been having a whale of a time trying to get my grandparents in FL signed up for at least two weeks now.
Lucky to live in Harris County. By far the leading county in TX so far, with double the number of vaccinations Dallas County has managed. About 3% of Texans have received vaccinations so far. That's probably in part because the state opened things up to elderly and ill people before getting all the HC workers vaxxed. Houston has the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, so there is a massive private and public infrastructure, as well as many HC workers to both get vaccinated but also administer doses. Methodist has been allocated the most shots (11K this week, they gave 20K last week), with Houston Health Department and Harris County Public Health just behind them. Three other hospitals will be receiving doses for the first time this week, on a smaller scale (2-4K range).

Which part of FL? Not sure if the whole state is using this site, but this has been decent for the Tampa Bay area recently. It gets hammered when vaccine reservations drop, but if you're persistent and flexible with your vaccine site, you can snag a reservation. It seems the best way to be notified of reservations is to follow your county's health social media pages.
made an appointment for the vaccine tuesday!! not sure whether it'll be Moderna or Pfizer but i'll take anything
They didnt specify when you booked? Hopefully they book your follow up after you get your first dose. Here in LA theyre just leaving you on your own to book a follow up and just want you to make sure the location you go to is giving out the same vaccine you received.

I got my first shot Sunday. They didn’t let me know which one it was before. I asked and she said that she didn’t know. When I arrived she told me I was getting Moderna. Filled out a typical medical form got my vaccination card then went into the room for my shot. There were 6 nurses per room with 2 rooms running that were giving shots. I would say atleast 50 other people got vaccinated while I was there (which was 25mins) the shot itself was same if not less painful then a flu shot. After they suggested everyone who got the shot wait a period of time to make sure you didn’t have a reaction. The room also has a nurse in it just in case. Only after effects I got were a sore arm. Started the evening I got the shot and just felt like I was getting pinched. The soreness lasted for only 2 days and now I’m back to normal! Unfortunately I didn’t get any super powers my 2nd dose is scheduled for February. Nothing to be afraid of, we can do this!

Maybe you turn invisible, just not when other people are around?
Alright, got through the drive thru vaccine site with my mom. So they check the temp of whoever is getting vaccinated and you just gotta snake around til you get to another checkpoint where they confirm your appointment. Then snake around more and get to a lane where somebody can give you the shot. They check again to confirm youre in the system and look at Id and a questionaire. You get to the nures giving you the shot and they check everything again and you get the shot. They fill out the vaccine card and then give you info for the follow up appointment. They have it set up so everyone who went to that vaccine site that day will be able to book again in 21 days for the follow up or you can attempt to book it at a closer location if you had to go our of your way to get the shot. Went as smoothly as you could ask for and was a couple hours. now they just need more places and more shots and we can get back to shows in 8 months!
I changed my appointment to a CVS since its closer to me and i can get it Saturday rather than waiting til next week. Assuming it's Moderna because the second shot comes 28 days after. I'm going to spend my life savings on shows this fall hahaha

Ugh, I'm not reading great things about the South African variant and its ability to escape neutralization by both post-infection and post-vaccine antibodies. At the very least, it's looking like effectiveness will be diminished, if escape doesn't happen outright. Of course, this is all in vitro study, so we don't know how it'll bear out in vivo, but this is the first time I've really been concerned that these vaccines aren't going to get us out of pandemic life in the next year.
Of course, I've also read a lot about how spinning up new versions of the mRNA vaccines to deal with these mutations can happen in a matter of weeks. I just hope Pfizer and Moderna get on that, like, now, rather than waiting until we're seeing widespread infection in vaccinated people.

UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
GF's mom sent me an hour long video from a lady named Dr Simone Gold that's talking about how unsafe the covid vaccine is. I did a quick google on her and saw she's on the FBI most wanted list for being one of the capitol rioters.
I dont think it's even worth watching to argue with her.
A bunch of bars in STL were just closed for a year after continually violating COVID restrictions 😂 I feel bad for the bars/restaurants that are actually trying to make this work but these guys all would just go on local news and complain about how it’s not fair
I wish law enforcement would enforce the restrictions here in San Diego. Restaurants are supposed to offer to-go service only, but there's a restaurant a mile from our house that is always packed with people eating inside, not distanced and no one wearing masks, in total violation. There's also an Instagram account that highlights restaurants "fighting the lockdown" and staying open. Meanwhile we're having record infection rates. So frustrating.

There's one near me that was on Diners Drive Ins and Dives that has been similarly flauting distancing and masking regulations. We share a common vendor and apparently they have the necessary people looking the other way. I'm just done giving them my money and referring them.
the press pushing fauci on the differences between the current and previous administration re: covid policy. you really could listen with the sound off and just watch his facial expressions to get the answer. dude looks like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders.
we're still deep in the shit but this video can give you a little hope for the coming year.

OMG I've been calling and reporting the bar down the street every other day and they've been doing their thing for 2 weeks. It's so fucking infuriating to drive by and see that shit everyday.

At the poker game I am in on Friday's, there is multiple persuasions of politics involved, and the one I didn't put my voice in on was "snitching" on these restaurants. And I didn't have the energy to tell them is snitching is when you are involved in the game and you start tossing secrets, letting people harbor together in these stores and restaurants is literally getting people killed. It's called reporting...
Probably approved and available to ship by March. 90% effective rate with one shot. Only refrigeration needed. They are wrapping up the phase three trial at Vandy now. Also a two shot regimen is in trials. 100 million doses by end of April. (If all goes as planned)
Meanwhile in my backyard the west siders wanna cut the line.
the comments on this article is just people wanting to get mad at something. We have people waiting hours to get doses of the vaccine that would otherwise go bad if they weren’t there to use them. That’s objectively great, good for them.
