pfizer vax is 88% effective against delta in this study, even with rising cases, i feel like making gatherings vax only is the most sensible choice imo.

IMO, thats the holdup with Bonnaroo right now. They're trying to figure out if its possible to require Vax or a negative test. Of course I could be wrong because with 5.5 weeks til the fest, anyone not vaxed has a pretty limited window to change that.

It’s certainly possible. Tenn. Senate bill 564, which provided a cause of action for alleged “discrimination” based on Covid vaccination status has been tabled in committee until January, 2022. However, I think it’s likely that Roo would have to offer refunds to anyone who refuses to get vaccinated because it was not a condition of the ticket sale. I think it’s an open question whether they have the wherewithal to brave that potential shitstorm. There is more of an antivax sentiment than I realized in the roo community, so it could be expensive. I also believe that changing the course now, while very prudent, will also draw a lot of Unwanted attention, scrutiny, and a degree of (wrongful) outrage. This flies in the face of LN’s current apparent strategy of trying to keep their head down and maintain a low profile vis a vis Covid, unless lolla forces them to take a different approach.
Selfishly, while I would prefer strict Covid protocols, i think this is probably the best approach for those of us hoping to attend bonnaroo for the time being. Hopefully lolla goes off somewhat smoothly and people have a healthy and amazing time.
I feel so defeated by the recent spikes. Just feel like this is never going to end.
We had to cancel my sons 5th bday pool party on Saturday. 35+ people were coming but by sister and boyfriend tested positive. Was going to be the first time we would've seen some family in 2 years. They haven't even seen my 2 year old daughter yet. Major bummer.
People and society need to accept the fact that this is what life is now. Its not going away. There will positive tests for many years to come. Life doesn't end. We just adapt.
wonder how this will effect the fall 2021 festivals
I'm confused on the parameters of this. Its only for European countries and already in effect? Does that mean bands like Idles who have a full tour mapped out are fucked, but if you're inside the US (or from other countries) its cool?

It looks like they can go elsewhere for 2 weeks and enter the US just fine from there.
Entry rules in response to coronavirus (COVID-19) Entry to USA It is not possible for most British nationals to enter the USA if they have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran, Brazil, China, South Africa or India within the previous 14 days.

I wish Lolla was requiring vaccination and not just a negative test within the last 72 hours
The framing of this number in the story is a little strange. I'm sure the number is undercounted but only 17 people out of 37,000 attendees isn't that bad.

Eh, it’s a little larger the per capita transmission rate of Michigan as a whole right now (which is overall pretty low). It’s honestly more spread than I would have guessed from an outdoor fest.
gotta think the rate of vaccination at a country music fest is well below the rate for the rest of the state

Even if it was an outdoor fest it was still 37,000 people that were probably in very close proximity to each other.

Could still work if Roo advises people to get the one-shot J&J vaccine.

I just don't think there's any way Bonnaroo implements a vaccine/negative test requirement this late in the game. We're fewer than 40 days out. As others have pointed out, that's barely enough time for someone who receives a two-dose vaccination today to be fully inoculated by the time they walk through the gates. They should've had the guts to do it from the beginning, but hey, don't want to piss off the anti-vax wooks, I guess.
I'm really starting to prepare myself for a cancelation. I'll be devastated and probably cry a lot, but if I at least start thinking about it now, maybe I won't go into a deep enough hole that seppuku is necessary.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Lollapalooza is in a far more liberal locale than Bonnaroo, and they are going through with the fest during the height of the Delta variant spread. Bonnaroo is not going to cancel

1) We're not at the height of the Delta spread. Most sources I follow pin that as likely in, say, early September. Good times.
2) Lollapalooza is requiring vaccine proof or a negative test, and have had that as a parameter since tickets went on sale. These are very different animals from a safety standpoint.

From the beginning of the rise in cases to the peak was about a month for India and the UK. Knowing the delay in testing + 14 day incubation period, I would imagine that this week is very close to the peak load of the Delta variant. Now, the tests will show up in masses in 10-14 days, and it will look like that is when the peak occurred, but that is because everything is slightly delayed with COVID due to the incubation period and time that it takes for a test to come back positive.
its a really quick peak it appears. if there was ever a time to go back to masking up, even for vaccinated people, this would probably be the week. that's the path I am taking personally.

That's my secret, Cap: I never stopped masking up.
Yeah, I've seen that, with Delta. The question just becomes where the apex is. I feel like that's going to be harder to project for a country like the US, which is so regionally diverse in terms of infection rates, vaccine uptake, and just general lifestyle stuff that affects transmission. Scott Gottlieb said he could see it being 2-3 weeks from now, which wouldn't be great, but which would be better than Labor Day weekend, I suppose.

I think the bigger issue is that Bonnaroo cancelling now would also be a logistical nightmare.
I’m sure any major event organised since COVID has a rock solid insurance policy and contingency plan for this exact scenario.
Doesn’t mean it’s not going to be a lot of work for the people behind the scenes, but it’s not going to be like when a small non-profit fest I used to attend was completely flooded days beforehand… now that was a logistical nightmare.
