Will be fun to see what happens following Rolling Loud because Florida is probably getting close to the exact peak of their outbreak.
That has to be worst case. Whatever their numbers are, their area and timing makes me think the spread should be as significant as its going to be at any festival.

Yeah, I'd think so. If they were gonna cancel Roo they'd probably have cancelled that. Political situations are pretty similar.
"California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said that state and healthcare employees will soon be required to show proof they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 — with those who remain uninoculated subject to a regular testing regimen, the Los Angeles Times reports."
its a really quick peak it appears. if there was ever a time to go back to masking up, even for vaccinated people, this would probably be the week. that's the path I am taking personally.
UK will surely notch back up once their "Freedom Day" catches up with them right? They quit their preventative measures on July 19th.
as far as i can tell the truth is we don't know what causes these spikes to drop off. it's been the same throughout the pandemic. still a lot we don't know about this virus.
The virus saturates the population to the extent that it can and then cases start falling.
the "to the extent it can" part is what we don't know. why doesn't it just run rampant until it infects everyone? especially with the highly contagious nature of the delta variant. why does it just stop and drop off? it's weird.

At some point there is a peak and at that point the infection rate goes down just because it has to. The height at which it peaks is based on behavioral factors moreso than any characteristic of the virus itself, imo. It pretty much is running rampant until it infects a large portion of people it can, which is a proportion mediated by preventative measures, which at this stage includes the vaccination rate, and culture surrounding the virus at the time.
New York City will now require roughly 340,000 city workers — including teachers and police — to be vaccinated or tested weekly for COVID, citing risks from the rapidly spreading delta variant.

I'm not sure how many people who don't want to get vaccinated will cave just because they have to get tested weekly. Maybe we need to start rumors that getting tested more than twice a month causes hair loss and, for men, genital shrinkage.

I get tested weekly, when I am working, regardless that I am vaccinated. I like it, makes me feel even better.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was expected to backpedal Tuesday on its masking guidelines and recommend that even vaccinated people wear masks indoors in parts of the U.S. where the coronavirus is surging, a federal official said.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss details of the new policy. The CDC was expected to make an announcement later in the day.
The new guidance follows recent decisions in Los Angeles and St. Louis to revert to indoor mask mandates amid a spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations that have been especially bad in the South. The country is averaging more than 57,000 cases a day and 24,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations.
To ensure the safety of all concert goers, artists, and our staff, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (two weeks past second shot) OR proof of a negative COVID PCR test (received within the past 48 hours) are required to enter Gateway City Arts until further notice. If vaccinated, please bring your vaccination card or a clearly legible photo of your vaccination card on your phone. If unvaccinated please bring printed or digital proof of your recent negative PCR test. All unvaccinated patrons must wear a mask at all times while indoors at Gateway City Arts.
Please feel free to reach out to (email) with any questions or concerns.
This is from a venue in Western Mass. First time I'm aware of a venue in New England going to this standard.

Hallelujah, the CSU system is now officially requiring vaccines for everyone on campus. Just uploaded my card and feeling a lot better about going back to the office next month. Will still be wearing a mask, but just glad we're not about to get an influx of thousands of unvaccinated people when the semester starts.

More than half of the state's Senate Republican Caucus signed a letter Tuesday urging Tennesseans to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, a sudden acceleration of pro-vaccine rhetoric from leading conservatives as hospitalizations from the virus have begun to rapidly increase.

Day late and a dollar short mother fuckers.
I started seeing articles about conservatives now reversing to push the vaccine. My favorite headliner was from today:
Republican vaccine shift too late to halt Covid surge
Indeed, starting Thursday, hundreds of San Francisco bars will require patrons to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test before they can drink inside. It was a decision made Monday by the San Francisco Bar Owner Alliance, a coalition of more than 500 bars in the densely populated city. While it’s up to individual bars to participate, most members have opted in, Ben Bleiman, the organization’s founder, told The Washington Post.

This would definitely make me want to give a place business, even long after this is over. Plus imagine how much better their employees will feel. I hope it catches on. Then the non-participating places can be fucking petri-dishes the rest of us can fully avoid.
Just found out all our offices in the US will require you to be vaccinated. Only exempt for medical reasons. That's about 70k employees for one of the biggest tech companies in the world.

If more big companies with offices in Texas decide to do this it will be interesting to see if Abbott decides to pick a fight with them.
